Obedience at the village.
Work obedience in many scenarios!
Ignoring your dog!
This video shows a little of what I was walking about when I posted about ignoring your dog. He started off with a lot of tail wagging because he knew we were up to something but you will get the point when you watch.
Long distance recall with boss!
Poppy has been here with me for seven days learning her recall (come command.)
I trained her with an e-collar, but she has learned it so well that we don’t have to use the e-collar much at all now. It’s there for the “just in case” scenarios.
Tip for marker conditioning. Use your dog’s regular food if you can.
Sit on the dog.
“Sit on the dog” exercise explained.
What do you do when your dog messes up?
This video shows what I did when Boss wasn’t coming into the heel position correctly. He messed up the first two times. That told me he didn’t quite understand what I was wanting him to do. I kept calm and decided to help him understand on the third time.
Notice that I did not reward him the first two times when he messed up. That would have reinforced the incomplete behavior. On the third time I made it easier for him by helping him succeed. I rewarded that. That should leave a picture in his mind of what gets rewarded and what doesn’t.
How to stop your dog from rushing through a gate or door.
Just a little fun with Boss!
Short video from Evie’s go home session. You can see her take off after something, me recall her, and her perfectly come back without even needing the e-collar. I was so happy we got this on video!!!
Recall with an unexpected distraction. She did great!
Evie is learning to wait before rushing through gates.
Off leash freedom! Harley has learned the recall command very well. We are using the e-collar for insurance. In this video, she has it on but I never had to use it!
How to let your dog out of the crate.
This video is important for helping your dog as they are learning manners!
Here is an example of a distraction. I used this leaf blower to add a new twist to things. the point was to get her to focus on me some even with something weird going on.
Main benefit of being a dog trainer… getting to play with cool dogs all the time!
Here’s an update on Samson. He finished his training stay here on Friday. The training has transferred well to his owners because they are really working hard at it. Effort matters!!!
Harley came in early this morning for a 20 day training stay. As you can see, she needs lots of work with basic manners, leash manners, etc. I’m looking forward to the challenge!
Tonight Boss was tutoring Samson on the down stay!
Samson is looking real good on the leash.
