Canuary day 4!
Today we dry canned flour. This is a super super easy way to store dry goods, while also extending the shelf life and protecting it from moisture or mice.

Today, for day 3 of Canuary, we are raw packing chicken breast and pressure canning it.
This is perfect to have on the pantry shelf. I like to use it when I make chicken salad croissants, or Buffalo chicken dip.

Welcome to Canuary Day 2: where we can ( or at least try to π ) something everyday during the month of January to fill our pantry shelves. Today, we are making cranberry sauce using my friend Lauren from Barefoot.mimosas recipe to use up the rest of the cranberries we got on sale for .50 a bag at the end of the season. I'm excited to have this on hand and ready to serve my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas next holiday season.

I should have been getting dressed and doing my hair, but instead the party will have chips and salsa and my kids are dressed cute π€£
Anywho, Happy New Years!
Please be safe tonight, and if you plan on drinking be sure to have a DD set up ahead of time :)
Every year around this time, I start really itching for market season to return π©
I miss the chaos, and can't wait to return.
What do you miss most about the Pulaski County Farmers' Market season?
Other than seeing all of you each week, I miss the friendships I've formed with all the other great vendors. I especially miss having fresh flowers weekly from Sherry Blossom , brownies from Rocket's Raised Right Ranch and getting peaches from Hilltop Produce π

It can be tricky to find all the ingredients needed, especially around the holidays and I know brown sugar is typically the hardest to find , BUT - don't worry π
Molasses is usually always in stock at the store, and it's so easy to make your brown sugar at home.

I was so worried these little babes weren't going to make it π©
I had a broody hen sitting on them for 2 weeks, and it started getting COLD at night , so with 5-6 days left until hatch I decided to move mama and her eggs into a warmer spot in my garage and she never sat on them again. I was so worried I killed them because it had been several hours.
I reached out to a homesteader friend to ask if she had an incubator I could borrow to give them a chance and then when it came time to put them on lockdown, I couldn't get the humidity up so I reached out to ANOTHER friend and got a second incubator ( long story short, I need to get my own incubator π
)
I have been obsessively watching these eggs , and I'm so excited to see 2 hatch so far!
What's everyone having for dinner tonight?!
It was the perfect night for some homemade pizza π
Don't mind me, I'm still over gushing over this fully stocked freezer with beef from Byers and Son Farms π
I'm going to be starting beef bone broth this week, and I can not wait!
We've gotten half a cow processed from a local farmer for the last 5 years. Last year, we knew that we wanted to shop around this year and go with a different farmer for several different reasons.
We went and purchased individual cuts of meat from a few farmers before we tried Byers and Son Farms earlier this spring , and we were instantly impressed not only with the quality of meat, but with the Byers' family in general. Our search stopped there, I'll be honest... and I've felt like a little groupie ever since π

I'm very big on supporting local, and I always try to post & tag local businesses to show my support , because word of mouth is a pretty big deal. You guys have seen me tag The Byers page on here a few times recently.
This year's freezer beef restock is extra special to me because I decided that a big goal of mine this year was to cover the cost of this year's freezer beef 100% on my own with income I've generated from the homestead... and I DID IT!
That's a LOT of sourdough bread, and muffins ya'll π
Thank YOU for supporting me both at the Farmer's market, and at the farmstand. Because of your support, I was able to in turn support another local business while filling my freezer with quality beef to feed my family over the next year.
