Stop, drop and roll! This kitty is a survivor! When a neighbor’s garage burned down, this little guy was found outside, suffering from smoke inhalation. Thankfully he was not burned and with a bit of oxygen, he was fully recovered and ready to live the rest of his 9 lives to the fullest! He loves to play with twirly toys and watch birds outside the windows. He is curious and confident, getting along well with other cats and small dogs.

Helen Keller has moved to the shelter and has a safe place in a cage by the door where she is getting a lot of attention from our volunteers (and the other cats) as she gets used to the smells and sounds of the shelter. She is blind, but unlike her name sake, she has perfect hearing and can talk up a storm when she wants to!

As we mark "Specially-Able Pets Day", we thought you might enjoy meeting Helen Keller, a special needs kittie that we are caring for at Cat Guardians. Helen came to the shelter when she was just a couple of months old. It was clear that she was blind, so we took her to the vet immediately and there learned the terrible news that she also had FIP. Not long ago, this would have been a death sentence for any cat. But recently a new treatment has become available that gives cats suffering from FIP a chance. Helen Keller was the first cat that we treated under this new protocol and we are happy to say that she has made a full recovery.
Now that she is well, she has had her eyes removed and been spayed. We are happy to report that she is a rambunctious teenager who loves to play. Up until now she has lived as an only cat in foster care. We are now beginning to socialize her with other cats with the goal of getting her ready for adoption to a special family who will help her lead a full and joy filled life.
