CHICAGO — The Anti-Cruelty Society is waiving adoption fees Saturday at a “Clear the Shelters” event aimed at helping animals impacted by Hurricane Debby.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at their River North location, which is at 510 N. LaSalle.

In wake of Hurricane Debby, the BISSELL Pet Foundation stepped in to help transfer animals from shelters in coastal South Carolina affected by rising floodwaters.

“Impacted pets in coastal South Carolina animal shelters were left with no place to go due to rising floodwaters following Tropical Storm Debby,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “We are grateful to Anti-Cruelty for opening their doors to help us save these pets who wouldn’t have had a chance without us.”

The event will offer a wide variety of animals for adoption — including puppies, adult dogs, cats, kittens, guinea pigs, rabbits and more. Their goal is to place at least 175 pets into forever homes.

Food will be provided by portilloshotdogs at the event.

Here are the details that we have received:

Woodrow Wilson, Cane Corso/Mastiff mix, blue brindle about a year and 3 months. Loves love and to cuddle, crate trained, potty trained. Does wonderful with my female German Shepherd is not getting along with our older male. Not sure how he is around kids. Sit, paw, kennel, up up, Free and wait are all commands he knows n is happy to show off especially with treats. Takes from hand gently. Very kind, wants to be someone's shadow but also building up his confidence on his own. He is just a huge trained puppy who wants to be your little spoon receive pets n slowly fall asleep only to snore like a big baby dog. Shy with first meetings but once he has met you and gets a treat or some pets he usually is digging his nose under your hand asking for more.

We are often the "Last stop" for dogs. Our mission is to provide a secure environment for these dogs to decompress and flourish. To accomplish this, we operate as a foster-
based rescue organization, housing all our pets in real homes. This approach benefits the dogs by allowing them to familiarize themselves with a home environment, learn acceptable household behaviors, and coexist harmoniously with humans, other animals
and kids. While our organization is based in Addison, IL, we are fortunate to have foster families in several nearby towns.

We are so thrilled to say 8 out of these 9 are safe! Everest still needs help 😫

But we couldn't see these baby shepherds be put down, so we pulled the last 5! We have a confirmed foster for 2, 3 still need a foster. (Can be split up)

Now our mission is figuring out transport from California all the way to us 😬 we know thats a lot! But it can be split up in legs and teamwork.

Also pulling 5 puppies means we need a whole lot! We'll need puppy food (nature's recipe puppy), puppy pads, puppy toys, dewormer, and more! Please donate any of these items from our amazon list if you are able.

More importantly donate to our giving grid towards our medical bills. Puppies come with a whole lot of medical costs.
