🐻 HUNTING SEASON OPENING TODAY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.
SEPTEMBER 1, 2024 - NOVEMBER 30, 2024

It’s officially bear season! Here’s a safety reminder for all our followers and friends who like to hit the trails with there dogs to stay safe during hunting season:

-Equip both yourself and your dog with bright, visible colors like orange to help hunters spot you from a distance.

-Stick to designated paths and trails to avoid accidentally wandering into hunting areas, or someone’s private property.

-Keep your dog on a leash to maintain control and prevent them from straying into potentially unsafe areas.

-Familiarize yourself with local hunting regulations and avoid hunting zones. Check for any updates or alerts about hunting activity in the area before heading out.

Pepper!
We had our Sunday jam session, working around some triggers that have developed like cars. Her handler got some good progress in seeing how to handle peppers big emotions around passing triggers, by staying calm and redirecting Peppers focus before she reacts. We had some big successes today with this smart girl! Great job team pepper 🌶️

‼️NEW BAND MEMBER‼️
Welcoming JUNE the Aussie to the band today! Junes owner contacted me from a referral she got from a neighbor that caught me walkin’ my own dogs and was impressed by our skills. Junes handler is learning to live in tune with June through our program, working from the basics she’s already been practicing to applying the next level of obedience through our future jam sessions! She’s going to be a fun dog to work with, that’s for sure!

🎓 Congrats to LILY!
For completing our sessions today with a confident handler, and new skills learned from our four week program together. Lily has done a great job building her engagement in our public sessions, and learning how to handle her emotions when she sees other dogs. I’m proud of these two students for doing a lot of their homework, and sticking to our plans! Thank you for being A+ students.

You Berner believe that this first session was fun as can be! Today we went back to basics, with each boy working individual on sits, downs, and our favorite word: FREE! Their owners did great catching on to today’s lesson, learning how their body language impacts the interaction with each dog. Great job today Team Z&D!

Mid week fun with Frankie!
Working on door thresholds, from the crate door to the front door, an important thing to work on with your young puppies. We did some loose leash walking practice, then headed back in to work on some positions while eating (and waiting for the “free”) with lunch. ❤️🐾

FRANKIE! Was the first dog (besides my own) I got to spend dog day with! The new gear he has is helping him walk better while on leash, and he’s strutting his stuff with confidence now!

He gets lunch on our drop in visits, which I love to use for hand feeding activities and some training games. We worked on impulse control around his food bowl, a favorite activity of mine.
Great job little Frankie ❤️🐾

I was just cruising around Tractor Supply for some dog treats and toys and came across this. I wanted to post an important PSA about the dangers of using a laser pointer with your dog.

The movement of a laser pointer triggers a dog's prey drive, prompting them to chase it. However, unlike chasing a physical toy or food, the laser beam is elusive and cannot be caught. This results in an unending game with no resolution for the dog.

Even after the laser pointer is turned off, many dogs continue searching for the light. This can confuse and frustrate them, as the "prey" has simply vanished. This game can lead to obsessive-compulsive tendencies, including searching for the light, fixating on the last spot where it was seen, or reacting to other light reflections, like a watch face or a tablet screen glare, also known as “light chasing.” These behaviors often stem from confusion and anxiety, leaving your dog stressed and disoriented.

Instead of picking one of these up, try one of my favorite toys, a flirt pole. That’s a long stick with a line on it with a toy at the end (like a XL cat chaser toy.) It’s always important to play safe with our dogs instead of doing things that can cause serious damage to our dogs behavior. I don’t support this toy being sold and marketed towards dog owners.

PEPPER 🌶️ just had her Sunday jam session and today we worked with a long leash in the yard. At 8 months, she’s feeling teenager emotions and it’s our job as humans to be a good guide for her. Her owner did a fantastic job working our engagement activities today, some distance sit and downs, and she brought confidence to the table for Pepper to work with. Awesome job today Team Pepper ❤️✨

FIGMENT ✨
We had our jam session this morning and Fig worked on new things! She was happy to show me her progress on the place command by offering it up through the session. Today we worked on the front door threshold, and introduced heeling and loose leash walking. Fig is a SMART puppy with such amazing engagement built with her owners, she’s certainly one that makes me proud with every visit. Amazing job Team Fig on all the hard work, it shows!

Wrapped up Cody’s stay with a long rail trail trek this morning. These boys walk like a dream together, and I was happy that they’re both very well rounded when it comes to all the bicycle activity on the trails. I’m going to miss “having” a border collie, I think they made it to the top of my breed prospect list after this week with Cody.

We have Kal and Ruby who are a part of the crew now! They’re a client referral from Cody’s dad, we love those! I’m excited to spend some time walking them, while adding some obedience lessons in for Kal the red lab. I can’t wait to get started with these two!

Power pack visit! The boys wanted to show off their skills today by doing some laps in the yard, and these dogs ARE fast. It’s amazing to see their body awareness while running and moving along. It was another interesting day visiting the canicross canines ❤️🐾
