Finley had a productive at home session today where we addressed things like impulse control around the house and counter surfing for snacks. His owner is doing a fantastic job keeping up the practice between sessions, guiding this golden boy through his days to become a calm adult dog.

Today we had a jam packed session where we worked on some body awareness skills for this awkward long legged guy. We broke out the position bowl and worked some targets, pivots, and broke down his difficulty using the stairs. Moose will be on the right track in no time with his owner keeping up with the fitness routine I showed them! Great job today.

Biscuit with a blurry tail!
Today biscuits session was all about body handling and nails! Corgis are a breed that are sensitive about their personal space and need some extra guidance on things like grooming and vet care when it comes to strange people getting close and personal. I worked with biscuits owner to start his journey on letting people get close and personal with him for future nail trims and general doggie maintenance visits to the vet. Biscuit did great once he was given the chance to think it through, and make the right choices with clippers near by. Great job team biscuit!

Lessons with Lady!
Last night we had lady out in her yard letting her enjoy a sniffari. We are working on Lady’s confidence with being outside so we promote her using her being on a long line for some extra space and using her nose. Her sibling dog Triscuit came out towards the end and Lady had the confidence to initiate play with Triscuit and it was an amazing sight to see.

Today I got to catch up with my old friend Finn to review some of his ecollar lessons with his owner. We worked on some recall and big distractions that happen inside his home and I gave his owner some fun activities to work on with Finn during the days she works from home. Great job keeping up the good work Finn!

When interacting with a dog it’s important to consider the breeds needs. Dexter loves a good game of tug, however using “find it” to cool off after such an active game taps into his genetics by letting him sniff out some grass for a treat. My corgi likes to chase, my retriever likes to retrieve, and Dexter loves to sniff. When playing “find it” I toss one treat at a time and say “find it” to Dexter. When he finds the treat I mark it with a “yes” to say the games all done, then as for a “come” after the “yes” is said. Dexter enjoys this game very much as part of our routine together, he lays right down in his crate to nap after this routine. Dexter has been a student of mine for a few months now, he has finished his training program but I get to take him for walks while his humans are out at work.
