Sold

Journey, 12-14 yo grade TWH mare.
Champagne Sabino.
Current on vacc, Coggins, teeth.
Front shoes (new set this week).
Big shapey mare stands 15.2.
Trail machine. Goes through anything. Mud, water, brush, hills, etc. Doesn't care about traffic, tractors, UTVs, dogs, etc.
In herd stands her ground but not terribly mareish or mean. Under saddle goes alone with confidence. In a group, if non gaited prefers the lead but can be slowed to ride in the middle or back. With gaited has a good four-beat saddle rack/stepping pace which improves the more in shape she gets. Can motor along but needs to be legged up to be speedy for long distance.
Moves off leg both directions. Can ride with spurs if needed.
Have been working on headset and is improving. Can be bracey at times with elevated head set.

Quirks: After being minimally rode last year when she first came here she was hard to catch, I used a small catch pen or feed and had no problem, a little boogery on ground when she doesn't know you. Now I can catch her with no prob but she knows me now and has been here since Jan 2023 and no longer boogery with me. Can mug her all over and mount from both sides. You will probably have to build that connection though when you first get her.
Under saddle on the way home she can be speedy and try to hustle home. I ride her in a big bit and can slow her feet down but rider needs to understand that is needed so looking for a confident experienced rider who will slow her down when pointed home.
Loads fine. Stands tied. Fly sprays. Bathes.

Lone Jack, MO, 40 min SE of KCMO. Across the road from 1700+ acres to try her on.

Will not sell sight unseen and no, I do not have 49 different videos. Please come and meet her in person. I will tell you if she's for you or not.

FOR S A L E
Roger
6 yo Grade SSH gelding.

I've had this cool little horse since March 2021 and have rode him all summer.
He went with me to Eminence in May where we did 40+ miles and a ton of mileage here at home on local trails since.
Stands 14.2ish.
Stands tied. Bathes. Fly sprays. Good hard feet but currenty has front shoes.
Goes ba****ck in a halter up from the pasture.
Very nice little four beat gait.
Can be speedy at first but once he hits the trails happily leads or follows with gaited or non gaited at a walk.
Roger is looking for his next human who is an intermediate rider who can keep him going and be confident and he will take you where you point him happily.
Just transitioned from a snaffle into a little myler med shank. Super personable and wants to hook on with you.
Good in our big herd on pasture and easy to catch.
I love this little guy and was hoping his new human would just randomly show up but vet bills and truck repair have me listing him.
Located in Lone Jack, Missouri just 40 min SE of KCMO, across the road from 1700+ acres of trails to try him on.
Asking t h r e e fiver 🥕🥕🥕.
Current on vacc, Coggins and has had pneumatic float.

Insecurity around other horses -

Does your horse pin their ears, swish their tail, kick out etc when riding nearby other horses?

The most common reaction for folks riding this type of horse is to react with punishment - yell , pull the reins, make some comment about what a “brat” or nasty animal we have.

In this scenario, we basically have an insecure one ton rabbit, while we are the logical and supposedly reasonable being operating. How can a horse have emotional control without emotional control ourselves?. Why do we expect better behavior from a horse than we can muster ourselves?

It’s important to look at the “why” of your horse’s behavior. A horse’s natural response to a threat is flight first, then fight or freeze. When we ride in a group, we toss a hodge podge of horses together and interrupt their ability to establish a herd structure, and we don’t let them flee from the threat. We ask them to stay where they worry- and so the next options are to freeze or fight.

They may feel stressed about being asked to ride near horses they don’t know, or stressed that other horses don’t give them enough space for their comfort level. Sometimes we even supersede their hierarchy and ask a more submissive horse to ride out of their herd order, in the case of horses that do know each other. It can make horses very insecure, and most of us, unaware, are mostly focused on what we want the horse to do and what ways they are failing our expectations. We tend to not be aware of how close other horses are, and how our horse feels until they show overt signs such as ear pinning- which usually happens after the initial signs of discomfort, like muscle tension.

A horse who has confidence in his rider feels safe being ridden in a group. This confidence comes from the rider proving repeatedly to the horse that they are aware of the horse’s feelings and needs, and have always provided what the horse needed to feel safe. This requires attention from the rider, and a skill set to teach and relax the horse.

So what can you do?

Start out making sure you are aware of your horse first - and that you are able to have them calm and relaxed alone in a more stable environment first. It should be noted, calm is not the absence of explosive or negative behavior- calm is a horse showing of actively relaxing- sneezing, relaxed eyes and ears, supple muscles, etc.

Then, start preparing your horse slowly. Are they nervous or aggressive in a group? Ride with one other horse, with a rider who can keep their horse safely at a distance from you, and keep your horse far enough away from the other horse to stay under their stress threshold. Work on relaxation and balance work there- then you can slowly increase the proximity of the other horses. Try to ride with other people who are aware also, and who are willing to work on helping you. The group trail ride with the beer drinking crowd might not be the best place for your nervous horse, but you might have a few friends who are willing to wait with you, move farther away, and communicate their horse’s needs to you also.

Do not scold your horse for expressing their anxiety. Take them out of the hot zone, farther away from the stressor, and help them there.

Once you put the halter on and take your horse out of the pasture, your horse’s security depends entirely on you. If they know you can’t provide for their needs, they have every right and no alternative to defending and protecting themselves.

Thank you to Gee and Sylvia for coming all the way down from North Dakota to meet and buy a super nice Rocky mare we had here available.
We rode in the rain and checked pasture fences searching for a neighbor cow and then moved our calves around that are still here from our clinic last weekend.
Fantastic match. Can't wait to hear about your adventures in North Dakota! Thank you for coming to meet us!
