Saving animals thru community education, assisting local rescues by combining efforts, implementing T We are able to continue thru the generosity of others.
HCPA was originally geared to helping other local rescues in getting organized, looking for grants & supplies, etc. For several years, we had a full army of fosters and were able to transfer hundreds of dogs/puppies to other states. HCPA has always been flexible with the direction of our programs. We have limited our intakes this year and are focusing on getting our current animals adopted as they
have been here too long and deserve their own families. Unfortunately, this year, our cat program has been closed and we are no longer in Petco in Greenville. We may occasionally have a cat or kitten available for adoption and do hope this program can be started again at some point in the future. Like all rescues, we are always short on volunteers & fosters and our finances are always a struggle. August 2021

Peanut is the other chi that was in the seizure group (she had the super long nails and skin issues). She likes her new hoodie when it's time to go outside. She's ready to be spayed and then adopted. If anyone would like to sponsor or contribute to her surgery, holler now so we can get this sweetie into a loving and safe home! She is quiet and basically house broken. She is great with other dogs of all sizes as well as cats. Payments can be made directly to Commerce Veterinary Clinic.

Today... December 5th. Mia has been released from her tiny and sick body. There was no chance of her recovering from a dying liver. She had apparently been sick for some time. We are sure there were other issues going on but decided it was not necessary to put her thru more tests just to satisfy our quest for more information. She will be cremated and returned to HCPA, and this community that loved her so much. Her frail life impacted so many, and I want her to always remind us that neglect IS abuse and it must stop. Precious little one, you are already missed. ❤️

Ok, guys... I am College Station bound with this precious cargo! Taking her to Texas A&M.

PRAYERS FOR MIA!!!
Today's update is not good. She is passing blood in her urine. Will this ever end?! Poor girl!!

The weather was great for getting things done today and on top of the list was deworming and nail trims on the latest intakes. Here's a couple of pics with intake photos and then today.

Finally, spent some extra time with the pup of the group. She was shaking and scared but tolerated being held for a while. After I sat her down, she came back over to smell my jeans. I'm sure she smelled the other dogs. I bet she settles down now, and I can handle her easier.

Not much has been said about the 2 cats that were in the seizure. Not a great picture but at least they are no longer hiding in the corner. The orange one is terribly thin but seems to be eating more now that he's not so stressed. They can be fostered if anyone wants to help out.

More info on Mia... she as been at the vet's office 6 days now. Seems there has been digestive issues. She was not passing stool as she should have but once that started, she was passing paper. We couldn't figure out where that came from unless it was part of a p*e pad? Later, she started passing leaves. I don't have leaves in my yard and the vet clinic doesn't either. After further research, Dr Foster feels she had been eating paper and leaves BEFORE she was rescued. Let that sink in... eating paper and leaves, just to survive. And, she was near death when we got her. She has been struggling to get back to complete health these past few weeks. Would any of those dogs have survived thru the winter this year? I doubt it!! Let's continue to pray and share good vibes for the entire crew that was taken from Point.

Quick Mia Update!
(I'm at work so a full report will be posted this afternoon).
The good news is she's feeling better and doing her little squeak she does! As usual, the staff is making sure she has everything she need, including this darling, and warm, sweater! Thank you, Commerce Veterinary Clinic for so much care and attention to this little one! ❤️ 💙 💜 💖

I've been wanting to share this HUGE blessing for some time now, and things finally fell into place just this week. This started back in August as I was struggling on how to improve some of the pens and prepare for winter. Out of nowhere, I was contacted about some people wanting to make donations to the rescue. Due to their generosity, I was able to purchase these movable pens!! These 4 were delivered yesterday, and there are a total of 10 coming!! These are the perfect solutions to getting these guys out of the weather!! Look who has already moved into them... the 4 boys from the seizure! These are going to make things easier on me as well in caring for them. DEFINITELY a Thanksgiving to remember!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! HCPA has so much to be thankful for this year. There have been So Many people that have stepped up to make this rescue continue in its efforts to help the animals in our area. I have met a LOT of great animal lovers who help us keep this place going! Even your comments are so uplifting when the hard days hit. I can't thank you all enough!

Little Mia was ready for breakfast but didn't like the cold so she took her blanket with her. ❤️
Still not sure what all is going on with her but it could be after effects of going without food for so long. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers as this may take a while to get her healthy again.

Mia update! She is feeling much better as she seems to have gotten her system cleaned out but will be staying a few days as her white blood cell count is still high. She is getting her antibiotic changed and will be monitored by her wonderful team at Commerce Veterinary Clinic!!!

Not good picture but giving you an inside p*ek of what it's like feeding the girls from the seizure last week. They remind me that every life is worth all the hard work.

UPDATE Sunday pm - Mia has pooped and felt well enough to chew off her IV. A new IV was put in, and she now has on a cone. She's not happy about that, of course! Now she just needs to rest and see what tomorrow brings.
*********
Mia update... xrays show she is full of poo (one things we watch for on dogs that have gone way too many days with no food) so she received an e***a and is on fluids. There is also pus in her a**l glands (she's been on antibiotics this entire time). Those glands could be painful and kept her from relieving herself as she should. We should know more tomorrow once she gets her system emptied out. That should give her some relief! There are a couple of possible diagnoses that will be looked at and hopefully ruled out. For now, she is back in good hands at Commerce Veterinary Clinic.

What a better way to celebrate but with her very own pup cup 🥤
(Yes Dr Foster, I remembered she is on a limited intake). Lol 😉
This male, who I keep calling, Willy, continues to get out. Today, I'm going to figure out how!!
These dogs have been deprived of so much... they'd rather be with me than eat. 😔 😟 🙁
How is this beauty still waiting on her #bff??!!?? She is very social, a great protector, dog and cat friendly and exposed to livestock and chickens. ***SERENA*** She is ready and can be in your home within days!

HCPA was originally geared to helping other local rescues in getting organized, looking for grants & supplies, etc and even tho we still make ourselves available to other rescues by helping any way we can, we are now a full fledged foster based rescue. We can have over 100 animals in our program at any time. Like all rescues, we are always short on volunteers & fosters and our finances are always a struggle. We are only able to continue thru the generosity of others as we are soley funded thru donations.
Founded in 2015, HCPA has gone through and continues to go through the struggles of growing pains. Adding good, hard working and dedicated volunteers to our programs is always ongoing and comes with the territory. With the addition of the new dog building and plans to complete a cat building in the very near future, we hope that will help take the burden off of the individual volunteers that want to help with the animals yet can not foster them at their own homes. Our Cat Care Team that provides the care of the adoptable cats houses at Petco in Greenville has been a strong group and is the backbone of our cat program. We hope to get such a team for the dogs in place soon.
HCPA loves being able to help but like any other rescue, we must set our limits on how many animals we can take in and care for properly. How many that is depends on how much housing and how much financial support we have. One area of support that we do not have is regular monthly contributors, ie, those that send in a set amount each month. Those funds are the only ones we know are coming in that we can count on. If you have not considered contributing in this way, talk to us and we can help you get that set up directly from your own bank account.
