We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Nancy Farber-Pena, our board member, and valued friend. We learned that she passed away on October 14. She is gone too soon, and will be so missed in our community. Those who knew Nancy will remember her laughter, her passion and indomitable spirit. She first came to the aid of the Dog Park through her work on the Council District 2 team, and she continued on with our advocacy group, helping to plan and participate in our wood chip delivery and spreading event earlier this year. Our condolences go out to her partner Daniel and their dog Merle.

The Passing of Nancy Farber-Pena

We are very saddened to share the news of the passing of Nancy Farber-Pena, a member of our board, and a valued friend. Nancy passed away on October 14, we were told. She first came to the aid of the Dog Park as part of the Council District 2 team, and continued on with our dog park advocacy group, helping us plan and organize our Wood Chip delivery and spreading event earlier this year. Our condolences go out to her partner Daniel, and their dog, Merle.

Thanks to all involved for their help in making the Bixby Dog Park a better place! We had a great work day, with a team of volunteers that included Councilperson Cindy Allen, some of her family and staff, and Alma Castro of Parks, Recreation and Marine, as well as members of the local community. The wood chips have made a big difference in mitigation of the dust and dirt in the park, and we look forward to the regular delivery of chips every 6 months, provided to us courtesy of the City of Long Beach and its partners. Come on down and enjoy, and maybe we’ll see you at our Work Day in November!

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I write today that Mickey Donahoe has passed away. Mickey was the President and dedicated leader of the Friends of Bixby Dog Park group. For those of you who knew Mickey, you know what kind, generous, caring person she was. Mickey had been very ill for a little over a month, she had a brain infection. Her illness was not COVID related. She was able to pass away at home with her husband by her side. He has asked that no flowers, etc, be sent or brought to their home. There will be a memorial service for Mickey on June 5, 2021. As VP, I will be trying to follow in Mickey's footsteps to lead our group.

Hi, I am Ross. I am 15 years old and love to walk the fence at the dog park. I adopted my family 11 years ago, and I have them pretty well trained. I used to have a back yard, but since I moved to Long Beach, I depend on Bixby dog park. All of the dogs and their humans are super friendly, and a couple of years ago, you would have found me playing on both sides. My mom keeps me on the small side, but if she is not looking, I can sneak over there when someone doesn't close the door right away. Hope to see you around

Matteo and Sheenu, both Shiba Inu's, love the carefree life that Bixby Dog Park can offer. Even though Matteo thinks the park belongs to him and believes he should be referred to as Mayor Matteo of Bixby Dog Park. Matteo is 3 years old and Sheenu is fifteen years old. They are both beautiful!!!!

This is Bear Bryant, an 18 month old F2 Goldendoodle. Bear is a rambunctious boy who loves playing with his friends at Bixby dog park. Bear loves being a visiting companion at senior citizens assisted living facilities. He has learned to shake hands with the residents and sits patiently while they pet him and talk with him. Like the rest of us, he is anxious to get back to his daily dog park routine.
