I'm screaming this to the gods!

If you give dogs free regin of the home...

Dogs will behave like dogs.

They likely will ⬇️

⚡️ P*e and P**p everywhere
⚡️ Chew on new earphones
⚡️ Bark at windows
⚡️ Chase the cats
⚡️ Growl, lunge and bark at scary things
⚡️ And soooo much more!

Here's the truth: they are behaving like dogs do.

You want to introduce new elements of the world incrementally.

Navigating the challenges of bringing home a new dog (foster/adopting) can be overwhelming, and often, rescue organizations don't have the resources to hold your hand along the way.

That's why we've created a special offer for rescues to help their community to be the best pet parents/fosters they can be.

If you love your rescue organization...

The tricks for keeping your dog CHILL at the cafe!

You’ve followed all the steps, and still, you’re worried your dog will see their dream dog and not be able to contain themselves!

I get it! It’s happened to me, too!

I mean, it’s happened to my dog!

My dog saw his dream dog and his nemesis, and BOOM, he went from CHILL to barking/lunging!

You 1st want to be prepared with a range of tools!

🥙 Prepare a stuffed Kong or Lick Mat

Smear your dog’s favorite foods or a concoction of their favorite foods.

The moment you see their focus change, offer them this high-value treat!

🦴 Bring your dog’s favorite meaty bone

I usually purchase 5-10 different bones and rotate them to keep my dog’s attention. Bring a few of these as well!

🥩 Order something special for your dog

Now, we can’t use dog treats for this amazing feat! We gotta reward them with the big guns!

Order something FABULOUS for your pup to reward them for staying on their mats!

If you let the waiter know that your dog is training, they might cut it up for you!

Now that you’re ready with the BIG GUNS, there are a few rules!

⚡️ Prepare your dog with a harness saying that their in training and to DO NOT interrupt their training.

⚡️ Sit away from the masses to allow your dog to get used to setting the movement.

⚡️ When your dog looks at a dog or human, REWARD them with that steak you ordered!

Comment ‘CAFE’ if you want to join our in-person class to learn ALL these steps with other like-minded humans and their dogs!

Here's what to do if you're struggling with ALL the rescue dog s**t (LITERALLY)

Oh man, are you wondering why you brought home a new dog yet?

You got this!

Here are some of the most common problems, and you can relieve your stress.

🥺 Potty accidents everywhere

This is the most frustrating for all new dog parents...

I suggest pulling up all your rugs and keeping your dog out of rooms where they can p*e or destroy!

Invest in some baby gates or pens!

🦴 Chewing and Destroying

Set up a safe room where your dog can hang out when you're not watching them.

Pick up ALL of the items that are NOT for your dog and offer them proper chew items.

Rotate chew items every hour!

🦈 Nipping and Biting

This can happen at certain times, such as in the morning and evening; make sure you journal when this happens.

Be ready with a plan for those times! Have a special frozen stuffed kong or meaty bone.

And remember, these behaviors don't go away overnight.

You're here to guide your new dog through this period (3-5 months) and teach them something new.

Comment 'DOG' if you need help with your new dog, and we'll send you a link to a FREE discovery call with us.

3 steps to building a connection with your new rescue dog.

I know that just rescuing your dog should be enough…

They should know that we’re kind and safe humans and that we won’t harm them…

But your dog’s FEAR has helped them survive so far….

They don’t know YET that they are safe.

Here’s how we’ll help your dog learn to trust you and your loved ones.

🛑 No unsolicited attention

Allow your dog to initiate contact when they feel comfortable.

This will help them feel more secure and in control.

Teach ALL of the humans in your life to do the same!

🥩 Reward your dog for behaviors that you want to see more of!

LOAD up containers with treats and hide them ALL over your house! (THINK: mason jars)

When your new dog offers any behaviors you like, reward them with a treat!

Some examples:

⚡️Checking in with you (eye contact)
⚡️Approaching you
⚡️Laying on their mat
⚡️Natural calm behaviors

Dogs offer so many AMAZING natural behaviors...

Your dog deserves all the snacks for just being.

The first 3 people who comment “dog” will get $50 off our online rescue course!

The secret to going from chaos to calm with your NEW rescue pup!

It's not what you typically hear...

🤜🏼 Manage your dog's environment.

Set up your house to AVOID mistakes.

I suggest using baby gates, pens, dog-safe areas, and crates to ensure your dog’s success.

🫙 Hide treats around the house

Cut up dog treats, store them in a container, and stash them all over your home.

This way, you can easily reward your dog for behaviors you love!

🥩 Reward naturally occurring behaviors.

Rather than focusing on ‘bad’ behaviors, focus on all behaviors offered naturally by your dog that you like.

EXAMPLE: your dog relaxes, toss them a treat.

If you’d love a step-by-step framework to take your dog from chaotic to calm...

STOP if you see these stress signals! 🛑

Here’s the thing: Dogs with aggression are often fearful and anxious.

It’s common for them to be uncomfortable locked in a room alone. We have to introduce them to this slowly, making this a fun game we play.

Stress signals are how your dog signals that they’re stressed and likely not in the emotional state to learn.

When training the calm room, if you see/hear your dog barking, lunging, growling, whining, throwing themselves against the door, or scratching at it…. STOP.

Those are RED FLAGS. We’ve already pushed too hard and done more harm than good. The goal is to set up positive associations with this calm room. 🧘🏼‍♂️

Set up a camera in your calm room: watch and assess your dog's body language.

Here are some of the stress signals you should be looking for:

* Yawning
* Whale eye
* Pacing
* Stretching
* Lip lick
* Body Tension
* Panting
* Clown smile
* Tail tucked
* Pupils dilated

Stop when you see these signals, note the time, and repeat daily. 📝

👉🏼 BONUS TIP: START under 1 min for the first week! Walk out of the 'safe' room, shut the door, and then return 😉

Do this for 1-3 weeks before adding time.

Comment ‘CALM’ if you want us to send you your first week's homework to help your stressed-out dog!

This solution doesn’t require a prescription.

Meet Sara; her dog has separation anxiety and aggression towards humans (known and new) and reacts to daily triggers in and around the home, making it impossible for Sara to live her life.

Sara has tried many trainers, obedience training classes, and Facebook groups and is at the end of her rope.

You know, when someone comes to your house and gives you a recipe-type solution that doesn't address your dog's unique problems.

She feels hopeless and doesn’t know what to do.

Luckily, she has found a solution custom to her dog's needs.

At Underdogs Long Beach, we treat each dog as its own. There is no one-size-fits solution…

To get your custom plan, to regain your social life…

Comment “Reactive,” and I’ll DM you for your plan to freedom.

For those curious of how it all began...

When I was 16, I brought home my first two dogs, Holly and Kenai.

Holly and Kenai had bitten many humans and dogs, and I was at a loss for what to do…

I spoke to many dog trainers looking for help…

I was told that she was dominating me, and the solution was to keep her off of furniture 🙄

I was a teenager leading into my early twenties, not exactly the most sound human 😉

Their aggression grew worse, and I struggled to manage and live with it.

I believed ALL dogs that were “aggressive” had to live like that indefinitely, that there was no solution.

THE HAPPY ENDING?

Since then, I’ve adopted eight more dogs, fostered HUNDREDS with aggression, trained countless dogs with similar behavioral issues, and helped them all recover!

This might be hard to hear.

It may be time to let go of the short leash (we're talking 6ft) and allow your dog to move freely in their environment.

It’s common for dogs to pull and lunge and bark on a leash when we’re using 6 ft leashes!

Instead, we want to use long leashes... we're talking 8-15 ft.

What are the benefits of longer leashes?

🦮 Your dog can move freely in their environment

🦮 Your dog can relax and feel as if they are off-leash, without tension on the body

🦮 Your dog can move at their own pace

🦮 Your dog can explore and be the dog they were meant to be

🦮 Your dog can easily move away from scary triggers

My dog friends, the trainer HACK is a long leash!

Is your dog experiencing discomfort or fear on their walks?

If this rings true for you, follow these 5 steps.

Be sure to save this post for later. You won't regret it! 💾

🐾 Desensitize the harness/leash.

This means moving the harness and leash around daily to teach your pup that the leash/harness no longer holds any value or distress.

🐾 Loose leash training inside the home; start by harnessing and leashing up your pup.

You then focus on capturing when your dog looks at you or comes to stand by your side. Next, you’ll add movement, still capturing eye contact, when your dog walks by your side.

🐾 Breaking down the door into micro-steps.

Teaching your pup first where you want them when you walk toward the door, and so on.

🐾 We’re ready to exit, doesn’t mean we’re going far!

Utilize a 10-15 lead, allowing your pup to exit and reenter the door, letting them sniff and explore the areas around your home or apartment. Stay close until your pup is sniffing and exploring with relaxed body language.

🐾 You’re now ready for a walk!

We choose areas in which we know our dog will be successful. This may be a park, neighborhood, cemetery, or an area with little to no sounds or distractions.

By letting go of the need for the perfect walk and allowing your dog to show you what they need. You and your dog will significantly benefit from slowing down.

Beliefs are shaped by our experiences, not absolute truths.

Viewing them as hypotheses to be tested encourages growth and open-mindedness. When it comes to our understanding of animals, this approach is crucial.

Constantly challenging and reevaluating our beliefs allows us to deepen our empathy and care for their well-being.

Facing Fears: Rational or Irrational? 🤔

Ever felt frustrated in traffic or impatient with slow drivers? Many of our emotions, like anger, often stem from fears or unmet needs.

We're loaded with fears—we might not even realize it. Ever fear not being good enough? It's common, yet hard to trust, when someone tells you you are good enough.

Humans can navigate fears with therapy, communication work, and cognitive processing. But for animals, fears are survival tools ingrained in their genetics. They serve a purpose.

Your dog's 'irrational' fears? Take a closer look at their evolution. Those fears might serve a vital purpose, just like ours.

Have insights to share? Comment below! Let's talk about fears and survival. 🐾🧠
