Why do we recommend annual heartworm testing while on prevention? If your pet is positive for heartworms, administering the medication could be harmful. Annual testing also guarantees the product. If you have a history of testing and treating consistently, the manufacter of the medication will cover the cost of treatment if the product fails.

As your puppy is growing, monthly weight checks are crucial before your flea/tick/heartworm prevention refills. We want to ensure we are not under or overdosing your pet based on their changing weight. Our scale in the lobby is always available for walk-in weight checks!

Did you know it is National Heartworm Awareness Month?

Every 3 years, the American Heartworm Society releases an incident map of heartworm cases. Around 2010, cases were down significantly all over the country! But, as cases go down, so does heartworm prevention compliance.

This incidence map is created by thousands of veternarians all over the country submitting data. Our hospital was included, as we had a positive case that required extensive treatment this past year. Southern California is not immune to this deadly disease.

Many monthly flea/tick preventions include heartworm coverage. Do you know if your pet is protected?
