Happy 5-year adopaversary, Tank!

Cory serves in the Marines and in 2019 visited Prince George's County Animal Shelter where he met this brindle Boxer mix. Now Tank has big brother Gunner to pal around with, and we think Cory might need a bigger (or another) couch... 😂

Margie is a hero many times over.

After retiring from more than 20 years of service in the Air Force, Margie dedicates her life to saving senior dogs. In 2020 she adopted then 9 year-old Betty Lou through our partnership with Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland.

After Betty Lou crossed the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 Margie returned to the sanctuary to save another 4-legged soul: 11 year-old Mocha.

We have a special place in our hearts for people who adopt older animals. While their time together may be shorter, it is sweeter as well. Congratulations to these two ladies in pink who are now, and are forever, family.

When you're joining a military family the name Pipper just won't do. So this handsome hound is now Sarge, having joined Marcus and his beautiful family for a life of love and adventure!

Marcus served in the Army, including deployment to Afghanistan. We're honored to make possible this "thank you for serving" opportunity with our partners Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA), which waives adoption fees for our veterans. Woot!!

When you’re named after one of the most iconic animal welfare advocates, you know you’re special.

Betty White fits the bill. Like her namesake, she has a true zest for life and brings a smile to everyone in her orbit. Easygoing, with manners that would make Emily Post jealous!

THRILLED at our first adoption through our new partners High Country Humane!!

Kyle retired from the Marines after more than 20 years of service, including deployment to Afghanistan. Like many veterans he struggled to adapt to civilian life, but adding Waffle to his household has turned his world around. His wife shares one of the best post-adoption updates ever:

"But the last couple days with his new buddy, he's engaged and HAPPY. I knew service dogs could be lifesavers for PTSD vets, but had no idea how hard civilian life would be for a twenty year Marine, and how much just adopting a rescue dog could help. And I thought I knew everything about dogs AND military life as a third generation mil spouse who's into rescue!"

Most veterans neither need nor will qualify for a service animal. But the right companion dog or cat can work wonders for their physical and mental health, ability to adjust to civilian life, and avoid becoming a tragic statistic.

Happy life, fellas!!

After losing her dog of 17 years Amy needed another pet to love. And so this Marine Corps veteran adopted Skittles, an adult cat who we pinky swear is inside that box!! 🐈

Meet adoption number 💯 through our partners The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County!!🎉

Francisco served in the Army and wanted a 4-legged battle buddy. He was chosen by Farrah, a 3+ year-old Pittie mix with chronic skin allergies - and it took mere seconds for these two souls to fall in love. ❤️

Thanks to this amazing shelter partner for offering our veterans a $16 adoption fee when they save an eligible dog or cat. Imagine finding your best bud and getting change for a 20!

In 2011 Tamara was looking to adopt a cat and her local shelter, Humane Society of Tampa Bay, told her about this relatively new program called Pets for Patriots. The Army veteran took a chance on us and adopted then 2 year-old Athena, a stunning white cat who would be part of her family many adventures.

Earlier this week - after almost 13 years - Athena crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈

Athena spent her last days going down to the pond in her wagon so that she could eat some grass, and on the couch nestled between her husband's legs - one of her favorite spots for years.

Please share your prayers; RIP Athena. Heaven just got a new angel.

As a combat medic Rory was dedicated to saving lives on the battlefield. But when unseen demons haunted her years after her separation it would be a rescue dog who came to her aid.

Sometimes we just can't stand all of the cuteness!!

Chicago is a one-eyed kitty, but that didn't matter to Paige. The Navy veteran adopted this fine little feline through our partners Salt Lake County Animal Services, which waives adoption fees for veterans we serve.

Another adorable reminder how our work uplifts not only military veterans, but military kids and whole families, too. Learn more/apply at pfp.care/adopt

🎶 "I am the walrus coo coo ca choo!"🎶

In nearly 5,000 adoptions, our first pet named Walrus. This big adult brindle boy was in the care of our partners Animal Welfare League of Alexandria when his hero walked through the door. Jonathan served in the Marines and - as you can see - is thrilled to add Walrus to his pack.

Thanks to Animal Welfare League of Alexandria for giving veterans in our program 50% off adoption fees, and for making another military family complete...oorah!

When your new dad is a Marine Corps veteran the name "Dusty" just won't do. Meet newly-renamed, 4 year-old Sergeant and his awesome new family!

Sergeant's adoption fee was waived thanks to our partners Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA), which means more ca-ching for Chris to spoil his new battle buddy.

We couldn't be happier for this Marine Corps family...oorah!

Jon retired from the Marines after 20 years of service and two tours in Iraq.

But his days of being a hero are far from over. Recently he rescued not one, but two adult cats through our partnership with Baltimore Humane Society, which waives adoption fees for veterans in our program.

Evan (the tabby) and Pepper (the black cat) are thick as thieves, and enjoy Jon's innovative homemade cattery he fashioned for their enjoyment. Mission accomplished!

We're proud to serve veterans from WWII to active duty from all armed forces. And veterans in our program can have up to two Pets for Patriots eligible pets at a time, each with full benefits. This makes it easier (and more affordable) to adopt bonded pairs like Evan and Pepper - doubling the lifesaving impact of our work.

Meow, baby!

THRILLED to introduce our first adoptees through our partnership with Berea Animal Rescue Fund in Ohio:

Andre, Army veteran, and Alec:

"Alec is doing quite well with a few minor issues which are to be expected. He is not our first rescue, but is the oldest at 5 yrs old and fully mature (although, I have to say, in many ways his behavior is very puppy like).

The unfortunate part is that we have no history as he was in a previous shelter which we were told was in very bad condition and was at Berea for six months before we adopted him...

So now he has a yard to run around in and protect from intruders like deer and squirrels, goes for morning walks (needs more training there), and a home where he is not cooped up in a cage (do not believe in them) with lots of attention."

We couldn't be happier for Alec and his new family - and couldn't love our first adoption with Berea Animal Rescue Friends more. ❤️

Brandie is an Air Force veteran and foster volunteer at Humane Society of Valdosta Lowndes County near her home. Recently she fostered George and brought him back to the shelter while she took a previously planned trip.

The whole time she was away, Brandie couldn't stop thinking about George. So upon her return she made it official: Brandie and George became foster failures, otherwise known as adopted!

Casey and his wife Leanne knew it was time to add a four-legged member to their beautiful family. So Casey joined our program and visited our partners Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, where the Marine Corps veteran met his own little devil dog.

Tux (formerly Faygo) is a mixed Bully breed, and all smiles as he joins his new military family.

Thanks to Lollypop for being one of our longest shelter partners (since 2011!) and for giving veterans in our program 50% off adoption fees. Oorah!

Fabricio and his wife volunteered to bring dogs from Humane Society of Valdosta Lowndes County to Moody Air Force Base for a 'doggy dash' event. Of the 17 dogs there, only one didn't go back to the shelter that night.

Demi - now Elizabeth - hit the adoption jackpot! She has two people who think her snoring is adorable, and love that she "would try to make friends with every living thing that moves."

Congrats to this Air Force couple and their new co-pilot! ✈️

How cute is Tiki?

James served in the Navy and was looking for a new first mate. Someone to sail the high seas of life day in, day out. Two year-old Tiki was in the care of our partners Friends of Strays Animal Shelter, which waives adoption fees for veterans in our program.

Wishing this duo years of smooth sailing! ⚓️

Our mission uplifts veterans and military families, too. Just ask Mike, Navy veteran and his dino-loving little boy, who just added Lemon Bar to their pack.

This adoption is extra special to us because it was made through one of our longest term partners. Since 2011, Rancho Coastal Humane Society has offered veterans in our program fee-waived adoptions. They came on board when we barely had any adoptions because they believed in our mission to better the lives of pets and people through adoption. They took a chance on us, and we're grateful.

So a tip of our hats to our pals at RCHS, and of course to Mike for his service in the Navy and for becoming a new dog dad.

"Coco is really helping me deal with life right now." ~ Theodore recently separated from the Navy and with little to no family to speak of, found himself adrift in loneliness.

Theodore knew that he didn't want a puppy, but an adult dog - preferably a Bull Terrier - and Coco (formerly Ginger) fit the bill.

Sometimes the answer to challenges in our life is as simple a dog or cat who needs a loving home - and who will remind you that you are not alone.

Thanks Humane Society of Huron Valley for this meaningful match and for giving veterans in our program 50% off adoption fees. Anchors aweigh! ⚓️

Pets have a way of anchoring us in the moment because that's just the way they experience the world. They don't dwell on yesterday or fret about tomorrow.

Thank you Baltimore Humane Society for another winning match through our partnership. Anchors aweigh! ⚓️
