FRIDAY BRIEFING – COMMUNITY SUPPORTING COMMUNITY

https://mailchi.mp/bixbyknollsinfo/bixby-brief-jan-10-2025

Hi all!

As we are all aware, it's been a devastating week. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the fires. We are trying to do our part, so we are accepting fire relief donations tonight until 5 PM and tomorrow from 9 AM-1 PM. More dates/times may be added as we assess the need. A huge thank you to all who have donated so far! As of 2 PM, we have had 6 trucks of supplies go out to fire stations and evacuation centers in LA. We just received 600 boxes to organize materials headed our way thanks to Food Finders and Alley Cat Deliveries. This community is incredible.

Yesterday, our Bixby Knolls community rallied BIG. A total of 17 businesses donated over 500 meals to first responders, volunteers, and evacuees in multiple locations in LA. Deliveries were made possible by Alley Cat Deliveries, Lola's Mexican Cuisine, Long Beach Clothing Co., & Care Closet LBC.

This weekend, PLEASE support the generous businesses that donated, as this will help them continue their philanthropic efforts. 🤍

HUGE thank you to the businesses that donated:
- Long Beach Clothing Co.
- Lola's Mexican Cuisine
- Sorrento's Pizza
- Patricia's Mexican Restaurant
- Taboon Mediterranean
- Bixby Joe

RAISING THE BAR, BUILDING THE BLOCK... HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025

“A year passing in ‘full’ not fast” is how we describe it. We just had a recap meeting and released a big sigh at the amount of output we created in 2024. Now we are cleaning up the office and filing things away so we can have a few days off before we unpack and un-file all over again. We can see all the programming starting again: First Fridays, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Almost St. Patrick’s Day, plus the strolls, the book sessions, the bike rides, and parking lot concerts way off just beyond the winter’s horizon. It’s all a group effort and we fully acknowledge: It takes a village...to maintain a village.

We want to say THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to making Bixby Knolls an even better neighborhood in 2024. Here's wishing you the bluest sky, and hoping something better comes tomorrow. Hoping all your verses rhyme and the very best of choruses, too.

We must tip our hat to the Bixby Knolls businesses who have struggled and muscled through a variety of challenges. Our business members continue to need YOUR support more than ever so we ask to keep YOUR business district front of mind.

Time for our SHOUT OUTs: Let’s start with the BKBIA Board of Directors & Community Liaisons, BKBIA Project Manager (and Chaos Coordinator), Myra Pimentel, and Alana Salas-Yoshii, Content Manager (also Chaos Coordinator). Hip, hip, hooray for Tom Underhill (Superhero)!

Special thanks to Councilmembers Megan Kerr and Al Austin, plus their great staff members; Mayor Richardson; Dennis Cook, Jason Richard and CSI Patrol Service; City Managers Tom Modica and April Walker; Bo Martinez, Julian Cernuda, and the entire Economic Development Department; Eric Lopez, and the Department of Public Works; LBPD & LBFD; Austin Metoyer and the Downtown Long Beach Alliance.

Thank you to our Strollers, Kidical Mass riders, our Knights of the Round (Turn)Table music fans, the “makers” at Makers Night; DJ Dennis Owens and DJ Dave Skott; our Literary Society readers.

Thank you to: The "anonymous donors" and those not-so-anonymous donors to the Bixby Knolls Community Foundation including all the generous people who donated to our Long Beach Gives campaign!; Alissa, Marley Fay, and Hendrix Thomas Cohn; Kelly Bray; Alley Cat Delivery Service; Gary Oda; Holly Unruh; Rachel Massari; Christopher Yates; Duke Givens and the Care Closet LBC crew; Bixby Petals; f/8 Studios; Shelly Skinner; Jane Nadeau; Charlie; Nicolette; Fresh Prints & Design crew; The Coutin House of Pancakes; Sander, Sumako & Toaster Music; Bixby Knolls Dawn Joggers; Jenn Bats and the Bixby Knolls Vampire Crew.

Thank you to our sponsors: Team Fasnacht; Port of Long Beach; Long Beach Airport; Pixie Toys; Oakwood Academy; Farmers & Merchants Bank, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf; Lola’s Mexican Cuisine.

Thank you to our hosts: A Dream Come True Tea and Party Room; Beachwood Brewing, Pixie Toys, Angel Food Donuts (Donut Rock).

Thank you to the Clean Teams: Cal Heights; Bixby Knolls/Los Cerritos; Ridgewood Heights.

With special shout outs to: DRIVER carts; Larry (Yes YOU Larry); Rancho Los Cerritos; Historical Society for Long Beach; Long Beach Shakespeare Company; Longfellow Elementary PTA.

All of our artist, musician, DJ, and performer friends that bring magic to First Fridays. Here's to the ones who dream, foolish as they may seem. And a standing ovation to all the general good-doers in the neighborhood.

Happy New Year – Invest in Your Neighborhood – Support Small Business!
