247 braids, 116 miles, 21 tests, you-don’t-want-to-know-how-many cups of coffee, 7 horses, 5 riders, 3 comically-timed PA system renditions of “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” 1 track meet, and 1.5 bottles of green spot remover later, that’s a wrap for Team Windswept on Dressage for the Cure 2023. Huge thanks to Heather Petersen 2 White Feet, Inc., Noah Ratner, and the Colorado Horse Park for putting on an amazing show. We had a great weekend across the board, with both new and more established pairings putting in some wonderful tests, earning some key qualifying marks, and coming out of the ring seven minutes smarter every time. It was a weekend full of major firsts, personal bests, and great learning experiences for humans and horses alike.
A few highlights: Greta Vowell had two great tests at Prix St Georges on Jolie Rossing’s Rahannah, and also piloted Anne Schmid’s Solex and Sloane Rosenthal’s Famosa WF through their first shows, earning top placings and scores in the 70s on both young horses. Taylor Allen and Megan Kelleghan continued their qualifying campaigns for this year’s NAYCs, with Taylor and her Fleur de Lis also making their debut at 4th 1 and recording a PB of 74%+ at Third 3, and Megan and her Rhetoric making their PSG debut. Maya Rosenthal had her first show on the great Huelveño VI (“Wee”), with multiple scores over 70% at Training level, and Sloane Rosenthal and her Con Air V (“Aero”) had three strong outings at Fourth 3, with scores in the mid-60s on her first tests at the level. Along the way, Aero, Rahannah, and Solex punched their tickets to the Region 5 championships at Fourth Level (AA), PSG (Open), and First Level (Open), respectively.
It takes a village, and we’re so thankful for ours, both within the barn and our broader CO dressage community. Here’s to a great start to the 2023 show season, and we’ll see y’all at Nighthawk in a few weeks!
