A path to new adventure awaits!!! A new horse trail is being built that will give access to the south half of Mueller State Park! Up until now, that area has been too far for horseback riders to reach in a day's ride. In a few weeks, this trail should be open! I can't wait! 💜🐴🐎

Learning to Learn

An interesting number puzzle was going around the internet the other day. It was a simple little equation, but it brought out all the different ways that people thought about solving it. Some folks my age went back to their elementary education putting one number on top of the other, adding the right column, carrying the extra to the left column, and then adding the left column to find the solution. Others took the numbers and changed them to round numbers that their mind could see better and then added and subtracted based on whether they rounded up or down. Still, others went through some mental gymnastics that still have me confused. But everyone came up with the correct answer! And, that was with a puzzle that had a finite answer!

This clinic’s emphasis is on finding, building, and refining the skills needed to advance riders toward their goals! Whether you ride your horse in the arena, on the trail, or on cattle, this clinic examines the skills needed to help us help our horse. We will explore ways to communicate with our horse in the halter with ground work and in the saddle. We'll focus on getting both horse and rider to find a better balance to make it easier to accomplish beginning and advanced maneuvers. Bring a list of things you would like to work on! Riders and horses of all levels are encouraged to attend. Limited to 8 riders so we can give you lots of time and attention.

Our most popular clinics! Cow working classes are for any rider wishing to start their horse on cattle or to further advance a horse already working cattle. Riders learn about how to read cattle, position on cattle, and get in time with cattle. We expose riders to using their horse and horsemanship skills to track, sort and cut cattle. The emphasis is on horse and rider teamwork, developing a horse that truly wants to work a cow and on using low-stress livestock handling techniques. While these clinics are appropriate for all skill levels, we have found that attending one of our horsemanship clinics or a private lesson will help in your preparation for working cattle.
ANNUAL SPRING TUNE-UP HORSEMANSHIP CLINIC

We always have so much fun at our spring tune up clinics and build great friendships! Let us help you get your year started off with a tune-up/refresher of your horsemanship skills. We will help improve your problem solving abilities and refine your skill set on the ground and in the saddle. A refined horseman helps strengthen the horse and human partnership/relationship and gets you off to a great start for the riding season. We will explore ways to communicate with our horse on the ground; in the round pen and on the halter. We'll take what we discover on the ground to the saddle, learning to present a consistent message to our horses. Bring a list of things you would like to work on! Riders and horses of all levels are welcome!
