The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Health for Animals announced that this year’s theme for World Veterinary Day is “Veterinarians are essential health workers." The application of veterinary science contributes not only to animal health and well-being but also to human's physical, mental and social well-being. Our AAHA accredited LSAH family of dedicated and skilled veterinarians are committed to the highest standards of care of your furred, feathered and scaled family members. And...we love what we do!

This is Marissa, one of our incredible LSAH veterinary technician team members. Marissa sees the world as an opportunity to experience and learn. She is currently training for the highest accreditation in vet tech education, the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice. She is passionate about caring for your pets and is a whole lot of fun to work with! When she saw the picture of herself holding the Savannah Monitor she said it made her think of a prom picture!

This is Corona, a Burmese Python who recently visited LSAH's Urgent Care service for an evaluation by Dr. Alex Pauls. Performing a physical examination on reptiles is similar to performing an examination on most mammalian species. One of the easiest ways is to start at the head and work your way down to the tail. Dr. Pauls examines Corona's mouth, listens to his heart and lungs with a stethoscope and palpates his abdomen--just as we would do with a dog or cat. It's just that, in this case, it required a few more humans to hold the patient and it took a bit longer to work our way from head to tail!

Meet Kona....a lucky little Husky pup with an insatiable drive for adventure. She added new dimension to the idea of couch chewing and explored *inside* the springs of her family's sofa. She chewed a couch spring right through her jaw. She was released with wire cutters by Longmont Animal Control and brought to Longmont Small Animal Hospital's Urgent Care Service. Dr. Nicole VanGurp, Dr. Cassie Kandyba, and RVT Kiersten smoothly and successfully removed the spring. Kona is recuperating well at home and already planning her next adventure!
