Walk/run early in Texas heat. Before 9am and after 9pm, but be careful, temps are still very high at night, just without the sun.
They'll often keep going because they want to be with you or from excitement of the activity, even if they're injured or until they collapse from heat stroke. Foot coverings aren't the answer either as dogs actually sweat some from their paw pads. Don't prevent that! It's a way to help keep themselves from getting even hotter. Plus panting.
Dogs can heat stroke in under 5 minutes & most heat stroke cases are fatal.
The hotter a dog is, the farther their tongue hangs out, watch that closely as an indicator and get your dog rest, shade and cool water to avoid heat stroke.
A dog's resting body temp is a few degrees higher than humans, plus they have a fur cost and do not sweat.
