🥶🐾💨 BBBrrrr.... it may have been 28 degrees this morning but that didn't slow down our dedicated Volunteers. Our PAW- SOME Tuesday morning crew (Emily, Anna & Johnnie) showed up prepared and determined to get this incredibly sweet, patient pups a much needed break from their kennels. Walks were a little shorter than usual but Stuffing, Rosie Posie, Simon, Toughkneigh (Tony) and Fae didn't mind. Snuggles are just as good. All of these adorable pooches are looking for their FUR-EVER snuggle buddy FYI.

We are so THANKFUL for our passionate, caring and always loyal Volunteers who show up NO MATTER the elements!! We 💜 them so much!! Absolutely no way we could accomplish what we do without their help day in and day out. 7 days a week our Volunteers show up and show out!! Help us say "Thank You"!!

🥶🌬💦❄️ COLD WEATHER WARNING: BRING YOUR PETS INDOORS!❄️🐾 THIS is HAPPENING NOW!! Please take 2 seconds to SHARE this POST- it could save lives.

It will get COLD fast. It will be 40 degrees by 5 PM- 24 degrees by 5 AM. Don’t FORGET to check on your PETS ASAP. BE a RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER!! They depend on you and you ALONE.

5 steps to keep animals safe during this cold weather warning:

1. If possible, bring pets indoors.

2. Bundle up your pup in a jacket or sweater during their walk, especially if their coat is made of hair (vs. fur)

3. Before you start your engine, look under and pound on your vehicle’s hood to wake a napping cat trying to keep warm.

4. Never leave your pet alone inside your vehicle, which won’t stay warm for long after your engine has turned off.

5. If your pet MUST remain outdoors, make sure that are in a winter-friendly shelter that has the following components: three-sided enclosure, stands off the ground, contains generous amounts of bedding (hay or straw is best...not blankets), and plenty of (un-frozen!) drinking water.

⛈❄️💦FREEZING temperatures are COMING! COLDEST TEMPS of the SEASON.... start planning now!!

The weather is predicted to be in the low 20's (windchill in the teens) starting Sunday evening with freezing rain and 20 mph winds throughout next week. 🥶 Don't wait to make a plan for your pets. While we stress the importance of BRINGING them INSIDE during this season, we understand that's not always possible... We're offering resources to those in NEED- we have HAY!! Hay is important in colder temps because it acts as a natural insulator when placed in dog houses or barns, keeping dogs/cats warm in cold weather.

We'll be giving out HAY starting today for residents of Gregg County, Texas. Come down to LACAC at 303 HG Mosley Pkwy, Longview, TX 75604- Thursday, Friday or Saturday 12-5 PM or call City of Longview Animal Control at (903) 297-1290 from 8 AM-5 PM M-F if you have immediate concerns about your pets, neighbors or family member's animals.

BE PREPARED for TONIGHT!! New Years Eve always brings celebrations including fireworks but with that comes the increased risk of your pet getting spooked or lost.

January 2nd is one of the BUSIEST DAYS for animal shelters. Do YOUR part to keep them out of Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center!!

Help ensure your pets are safe by taking the necessary precautions:

Bring pets INSIDE during the nighttime and keep an eye on all possible exits. Loud noises, like fireworks, are the #1 cause for animals to escape. Check fenced yards for any possible holes or breaks your pet could escape from.

MICROCHIP your pets and check TAGS on collars. While microchips are not a tracking device, they help get them back to you if brought to a shelter or vet clinic. Make sure information attached is up-to-date as old/incorrect information makes it difficult to reunite.

EXERCISE them beforehand and keep them OCCUPIED during fireworks. MAKE A PLAN on how to drown out outside noise. Playing music, watching a movie or moving an animal to a quiet room can help.

Thanks to our friends KLTV 7 for coming down on Christmas Eve and highlighting the importance of giving our shelter animals a Home for the Holidays!!

Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center is closed today but will reopen Friday and Saturday 12-5 PM if you’d like to add a family member in time for the New Year!!

“They deserve to be in a nice warm home with a family that’s going to love them,” replied Michelle Hairford, an East Texan looking for shelter animals, “and they’re going to love in return. A shelter animal can heal your heart as much as you can heal theirs.”

we were HAPPY to see our friends from McCoy's Building Supply in Longview stop by Monday with their annual drop-off of "Every Day Wish List" items that we use daily at Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center!! you'd be amazed how excited we get about trash bags, dishwashing soap, hand soap and new dog chew toys. guess that means we made Santa PAWS' nice list...
