meet staff and volunteer FAVE, KOOL-AID MAN. this guy is nothing short of PURR-FECT and we absolutely don't understand why he's still here?!? KOOL-AID MAN is a 2 yr old, HW-, 55 lb Anatolian Shep-x who knows commands, keeps his kennel clean, walks excellent on a leash, passed his dog test AND has been classified as a playgroup rock star (calm play style so rough/rowdy could overstimulate him). he's been a shelter ambassador for any groups visiting including classrooms of kids. he's quiet, calm and reserved and he's got the most soulful eyes. he just looks at you in the most understanding way. THIS GUY will CHANGE your LIFE- he's just that KOOL!!

We want to highlight one of our FAVES in hopes the right person at the right time sees his photo and FALLS in LOVE.

Larry has been with us a few weeks and had little interest. We don’t understand it. He is an absolute GORGEOUS red DOBERMAN. He’s @ 6 yrs old and 90 lbs. He’s UTD on vaccines, neutered, chipped. He is HW+ but we can walk a committed adopter thru options on treatment. Staff report he is goofy, extremely tolerant, wants to please and is just a BIG LOVER!! He just needs a warm place to land and someone willing to step up for him. Promise he will pay you back 10 fold in love and loyalty. Adoption fee is waived with an approved application.

🏆🐶🐾🎊 TODAY was a WIN!! we don’t get too many of those in animal welfare these days BUT SUNDAY was a good day!!

12 incredibly deserving dogs left this evening on OUR VERY 1st TRANSPORT to our good friend Amanda and her team at The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue in Tennessee. staff hugged their necks and told them all a better life was waiting for them. they just had to hang tight a little longer. . .

huge THANKS to all that rallied and scrambled to pull this together. we had the opportunity to save lives. we made it happen- that’s what we do!! we appreciate our friends at Angel Paws Advocates for allowing us the use of their transport Van. big SHOUT OUT to our supportive Volunteer drivers. way to go TEAM!! here’s to a 1st of many and happy tails sweet pups. 🐶 🏆🎊🐾

***** IMPORTANT INFORMATION for City of Longview Residents*****

These changes take effect TOMORROW, Feb. 1, 2025. Please ensure you familiarize yourself with these important changes affecting you and your pets:

On Thursday, Nov. 14, City of Longview City Council members voted to amend three ordinances within Chapter 13 of City of Longview ordinances related to animals.

Section 13-16. Vaccinations: the first change impacted the current rabies ordinance by removing the required annual vaccination and replacing it with language to allow licensed veterinarians to follow Texas law. This change allows an animal to be revaccinated once every three years with a triennial vaccine or once each year with an annual vaccine.

Section 13-40. Microchip Required: the second amendment is to add a required microchipping ordinance of all cats and dogs over the age of four months within Longview city limits. Failure to microchip an animal is punishable with a fine of up to $500.

Section 13-41: Sterilization Required: Intact Pet Permit: the third change adds a required sterilization ordinance of all cats and dogs over the age of six months within Longview city limits, with exceptions, as needed. Exceptions include, but are not limited to, veterinary exemptions, an Intact Pet Permit, and/or a Breeding Permit. Intact Pet and Breeding Permits can only be obtained in person at Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center during business hours- 12-5 PM Tuesday thru Saturday.

Yearly Intact Pet Permit is $25 per application/per animal.

Documentation Needed to Apply for Intact Pet Permit:

Valid Driver's License or Government Issued ID
Proof of Residency inside City of Longview
Current Rabies Vaccination Certificate per Pet
Pet's Microchip Information: Chip # and Chip Provider
Current Photo of Pet
Current Photo of Animal's Containment/Enclosure (ie: Inside, Fencing, Kennel. etc.)
Completed Intact Pet Permit Application

LET's TALK MICROCHIPS!!! Here's an oldie but a goodie from LACAC's Practice Manager Anna. Help us SPREAD ACCURATE INFORMATION on what a Microchip really is and WHY they are so important.

Thought it'd be a good refresher with our announcement yesterday of our FREE MICROCHIP promotion for Gregg County residents for the month of February. Effective 2/1, with the City of Longview's new ordinance, Section 13-40, it is now required all animals over 6 months old be microchipped. We are here as a FREE RESOURCE for those needing assistance.

🐾🐶 We are HERE with a PLEA!! We absolutely NEED ADOPTERS. LACAC kennels are once again FULL and our foot traffic is extremely slow. PLEASE take 2 SECONDS and SHARE these deserving dog’s stories. It COULD SAVE a LIFE.

🥶🐶🐾🥶 our incredible Volunteers have layered up and self identified as a “HUSKY” this week. not 1 complaint, they showed up, bared the 20 degree bitter cold and wind so these sweet kiddos could stretch their legs. we ❤️ them!! 🥶🐶🐾🥶
