Last night was the first night in 6 months that I did not get up and lay with my sweet old lady baby on the ground. Trixie had a lot of broken bones at some point during her life and she did not enjoy being held as it would press in on her sternum and things where she had had fused bones. So in order to give her that physical touch and love I have spent at least 15 to 20 minutes every night on the ground, sometimes much longer because I have fallen asleep down there, on a little pile of blankets next to her little doggie bed. I loved this time. Trixie smelled like a memory but I cannot place but I always loved to bury my face into her fluffy little poodle hair and just sniff as hard as I could. She was amazing.
Today I am comforted by my sweet Dilly doodle my little maltipoodle. We have a drive to Shreveport this morning and his smile and Bumblebee personality will get me through.

These sweet Canadian found babies. My four Furry Friends. Camel, sissy mama, Salisbury, and of course sweet sweet Lizzy lou. Wonderful companions all of them! They are all going off to live such good lives. So much better than a cold table ending in an East Texas shelter.

It is with great sadness, but also comfort in knowing he was happy, that we will be giving pinky over to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. I don't know what Pinky's life was like in the 14 years before this last couple of weeks. I know though that rather than passing alone in the streets in pain, or cold on a metal table in a line of others waiting to be put down, rather than that he will have known love he won't have known what it feels like to spoon against his person, and to have them curled around him as he sleeps and comfort. Pinky will know what warm meals and a soft grassy yard in the Sun felt like. Pinky will know and have felt love. That's the only thing I can do in the end. Pinky we have loved you, you will stay in our hearts, you're beautiful likeness will be framed and put on our wall and you will be remembered as one of our wonderful seniors, seniors who got to find their last days and Sanctuary here. Who knew every ounce of love in their final days. Sleep easy Pinky.

Pinky update!
He has been home since yesterday morning. Doing well. Half his size! Over 1000 mls fluid drained. Now my sweet old man can breathe easier.
Pinky does not have long in our world even with our steps forward here. He is now on furosemide and a very low sodium diet. We will monitor how quickly he refills with ascites and decide how to proceed.
Our best case he doesn't retain more fluids and lives peacefully until he chooses to tell me otherwise.
Worst case he refills quickly despite Lasix and it would be inhuman to keep putting him through that.
In the latter case, if so, he will have known our loving home, our silly pack as his family, he will go to sleep as he often does now in the arms of his person instead of alone cold scared.
In the case of our optimistic hope, he will spend every last day he has sleeping and eating and being loved on.

Off again for another chance for Dilly Doodle Maltipoodle surgery. Our doctors in Shreveport think that he has improved and he can go through with both a dental surgery and his neuter at the same time. The dental surgery for him is a quality of life issue it is something that must be done. So today we will drop him off and tomorrow he will have a surgery we will be chancing his time under anesthesia, however Dilly is very surprised he is a very energetic and still physically Healthy dog. He's only a bit crazy with dementia. Billy is one of my Carly's Carley's Angels hospice seniors. They're an amazing rescue sanctuary that I have the great Fortune of working with. So if you are compelled please check them out we could always use supplies on our Amazon wish list and we appreciate donations down to the very singleest dollar. Everything else and every bit goes towards our seniors care. We go the extra mile to stretch every donation dollar as far as we can.
