It's International Bath Day!
Read on to get some helpful tips for bathing your pet at home:

🐾Choose the bath site appropriately. Small dogs and cats usually do well in the kitchen sink, larger dogs do better in tubs or showers. Get everything set up before beginning the bath so you never have to take your hands off your pet.

🐾Then, get the wiggles out! Take your pup for a walk/jog or play laser tag with the kitty! Nothing is worse than getting a high-energy animal in the tub and expecting them to remain calm.

🐾Groom your pet before bathing it. A good brush out will save you having to detangle when the fur is wet. Mats and knots can become tighter when wet and be painful to remove.

🐾Check your water temperature before wetting your pet down thoroughly. Then, lather with a pet specific shampoo. Most pet shampoos are geared for both cats and dogs, but make sure to check the label! Be sure to avoid the face and eyes!

🐾Rinse well! Soapy residue can cause skin irritation, and leave pets uncomfortable and smelling worse than when you started.

🐾Dry carefully. Towel off the majority of the water. Some pets will tolerate a blow dryer, but be sure to have it on the coolest setting and avoid holding it too closely to the pet or in the same spot for too long.

🐾Remember positive reinforcement! Be sure to give your pet love and treats for being so great!

Keep in mind, most dogs can go several weeks between baths, and cats only need a bath should they become dirty, or if they are unable to clean themselves for any reason. If bathing your dog on your own doesn't sound like a treat, you can always try our fabulous groomer, Leslie!

Trying to think of ways to spoil your frisky feline for pet appreciation week? Try out this fun and simple recipe:

1 14-15oz can of salmon in water (tuna works great, too!)
1 medium sized egg
2 cups of whole wheat flour (rice flour works, too)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Pulse the salmon in a food processor a few times until fine. Add in your egg and pulse until smooth.
Remove the mixture and then stir in flour until you have a doughy texture. You can always adjust the flour level or add a little water as needed to create this texture.
Lightly flour a working surface and roll your dough out to about 1/4" thick.
Now is the time to cut out some fun shapes like paws or fish!
Place treats on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, turning over halfway through.

Don't forget to let them cool completely before feeding! Store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for maximum freshness. And as always, use your discretion when feeding treats.

With summer festivities kicking off, we want to remind you about the symptoms of heatstroke and prevention tips:

Never leave your pet unattended in a car

When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited

Keep your pet hydrated

Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment

Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves

If any signs of heat stroke appear, please contact our team immediately.

Poor Busty suffered burns on all of his feet. To treat these wounds we needed to soak his feet in a water/betadine mixture. Since most cats do not like to get wet we opted to try out some cooperative care with Busty. Once we gave him a licky mat covered in yummy food he was very willing to stand in the tub for the required 5 minutes.
