Vanis Irish Whiskey aka Hazel is a 2018 gold champagne dun mare. She is by My Skip Dun It AQHA gold champagne dun out of TS Whiskey Playgirl. Hazel has been shown some and I can put you in touch with the trainer if you have any questions on what she was shown in and how she is to ride. Hazel is disease panel clean including IMM.

Hazel is being offered after her 2025 foal is bornand weaned. She is in foal to DROP YOUR GUNS, due in April and is brien offered as either a 2-1 package or separate. Hazel could possibly come with a breeding back to Drop Your Guns (in 2025) Hazel is sweet, broke to ride, breed her or take her back to the show ring. Only reason she's available is I'm going in a different direction. Oh and did I say she is GORGEOUS!

When it is 75 degrees on a November day, you go out and groom horses. Some wouldn't leave me alone and got a full grooming. Some got a partial grooming and some walked off and didn't get groomed at all today. Then I took some pictures of our mommas and their pregnant bellies! First mare due is Red White And Gun aka Raen, she is due February 4th. Raen is in foal to Patriot. We're super excited about this foal and can't wait to meet him or her.

A letter to trainers and owners...

Find yourself a trainer who will do what they say they will do. Find yourself a trainer that is humble and honest enough to tell you:

"This horse and my program aren't a good fit."
"We need to figure out if there is a pain issue"
"This horse needs different supplements."
"This horse isn’t mentally ready.”
"This horse might not be a good fit for you."

There are a lot of trainers that won't take the time if your horse:
• Doesn't think and respond like every other horse.
• Isn't bred for the discipline you are wanting to them to go.
• Have been pulled or "flunked out" of other trainers programs.
• Won't make them (the trainer) look good.

Yes, some horses just won't make as a reining horse, cowhorse, rope horse, barrel horse, dressage horse, ect. But the majority of them will be perfectly happy in other disciplines. There are also horses that could make it but no one has spent the time to figure out why the horse is reactive, sore or struggles with certain things. No one has tried to figure that particular horse out.

Whatever it may be, you just need someone that’s on your team and not just on your checkbook.

So, to the owners... (Trainers don't worry, I won't forget about you)

Be willing and open to vet work. I cannot and will not attempt to out train pain. If you’re willing to do your part, then there is no reason to not expect the trainer to do theirs.

Understand some trainers are slower than others but progress should be happening. Sometimes there will be some backwards steps before progression forwards especially if the horse has had some poor training or experiences in the past but a good trainer will explain why that is happening and how they plan on progressing, not just blame the horse.

Ask the trainer about their style, ask for references. If they describe their "program" and it sounds like a one size fits all approach, be aware of that. Some horses do great with that style and then there are some that unfortunately will get treated poorly because they don't. Ask how big their program is. Do they ride the horses themselves or do they have assistants? If they have assistants, how often does the trainer ride the horse? Assistant roles in the horse training industry is key to many horse trainers so even if an assistant is riding your horse a few days a week or is warming them up for the trainer to get on or however that trainer handles who rides what, just make sure your horse isn't falling through the cracks because your horse might not be as flashy or well bred as some of the horses. Clients are paying the trainer for their skills and feel. Trainers can train someone else to an extent to produce what they can but everyone has a different thought process, skill level and feel.

Trainers, I didn't forget about you.

Bashing a client publicly or to another client makes you look bad. How will that client know that you don't go around talking poorly about them to someone else? If you wouldn't want them to hear it, don't say it. This also goes for bashing other trainers...

If you are just starting out in the training industry, ride the horse, communicate with the clients, take good care of the horses, do a good job! These people are giving you a chance. This is your career on the line, don't just do it half heartedly.

Take care of your clients, that's how you get more. But also take care of yourself, set boundaries. If that means you don't answer phone calls or messages after 7pm than do that. Set days/times to return messages/phone calls or to update clients on their horses.
Business is business, but you are also human.

Good clients will stick around! I have clients that have been with me for 7-8 years. But don’t forget about the others, just because they don't have a fancy horse for you to show or don't have any major plans with their horses, you never know what may happen in the future. Everyone you meet has something to offer you or to learn something from.

And at the end of the day, you can work your hardest and do your best and things will still go wrong, that’s just life. But if you are honest and humble, those things will be forgiven and life will move on. Everyday is a chance to be better.
