When I was a tiny little girl, growing up in the cornfields of Wisconsin, πŸ‘§ my mother will attest to the fact that I had every square inch of my bedroom walls covered in pictures of horses. I was serious about my love for horses and the life they would lead me to have one day. I knew, definitively, when I was 10 years old, that I wanted to be a Dressage Trainer. I know this because I have it written down on a school project I’ve saved over the years. At that time, specifically on the back of my bedroom door, I had clipped an advertisement from Dressage Today magazine and that advertisement hung there throughout my childhood, into and throughout high school, until I moved to Southern California to work for Hilda Gurney. That advertisement is now a photo I will share in this FB post. Please see below.

What I recall most about the advertisement is the look on the woman’s face who is riding the Friesian. She is so relaxed, yet in a position that is anything but relaxing. At the time, I had no idea that one day I would meet that woman and get to know her. I had no idea that one day, my mentor, Hilda would tell me about the excellent rider for β€œProud Meadow” named Sabine.

Fast forward 35 years and it is now my great honor and most privileged delight to announce I am hosting a clinic with that same woman from that advertisement: Sabine Schut-Kery.

Please RSVP to this most excellent event by sending me a direct message. Sabine is a wonderful rider, trainer, teacher and person. She is gracious and kind, fun, correct and charismatic. She has represented the United States at the Olympic Games and continues to train out of the San Diego area.

Auditors are welcome on a limited basis and can contact me directly for details and to attend. Thank you! 😊

Then and now… 2017 to 2024. The best way to measure a person’s life is by the company they keep. Thank you for a wonderful clinic this past weekend, Kathy Hoffmann-Pavlich. You are a true gem πŸ’Ž of a human being and I am so grateful for you!

Keep in mind: To gallop from one end of the arena to the other, and in one stride, canter on the spot requires and incredible amount of power, elasticity, willingness and cooperation. Forward is easy. Back and still forward: NOT so easy.

Take spurs and whip away; ban kicking. (A horse can feel a fly πŸͺ° land on it). Some horses are far more sensitive than others, fair enough.

Get *good* eyes πŸ‘€ on the ground because we all - (ALL) - need that kind of help. (Life hack: when was the last time your β€œtrainer” took a lesson?)
*Mental Note….
Top riders are IN TRAINING. 🧠 This is not my opinion; this is statistical FACT.

Ride with CORRECT seat and leg 🦡 position; (this is often overlooked or more often, not yet able to be maintained. Do not 🚫 blame the horse.) Legs must be draped around the rib cage at the girth, and not β€œhugging” - the shoulder or otherwise, (classic chair seat.)

Please DEVELOP a light request and a correct, forward response from the light request.

PLEASE: CONNECTION COMES BEFORE IMPULSION ON THE TRAINING SCALE. Read that part again, and again. If you do not understand why this is so important, get some good instruction explaining the concept. Trying to get a horse to go forward into looped reins is not helpful and the forward will not be sustainable.🀝

It will definitely take many more accurate DOWNWARD transitions into correct contact than you realize to result in good UPWARD transitions. Riding well takes much more finesse, feel and timing than simply whipping and spurring.
