Axel had a follow up appointment today and had his staples removed. The doc said he healed up very nicely. Axel definitely showed the staff his true colors at the appointment.

Axel is feeling more like himself today! He is very alert and trying to be Big Dumb like normal. We are working hard to keep him calm during his healing process.

Axel is home. Surgery went well per vet. Next two weeks will be a task keeping him calm, but we are so thankful that he made it home to us. Also thankful that we recognized the signs of bloat quickly. That made all the difference last night.

Update 11/12/24 7:45am: Axel is on his way home! He did well overnight. The staff said he did great for them. Happy to have him back!

Update 11:55pm. Kaitlin just talked to the vet. Axel is out of surgery and waking up. Surgery went well. They flipped his stomach back to place, tacked it, and emptied it. Lots of inflammation, but no apparent damage to tissue or organs. Kaitlin will be picking Axel up in the morning and will continue to monitor him at home. Recovery will take some time, but the vet seems positive.

Anyone that knows Kaitlin or knows the pack at Rocky Road K9, is well aware of Axel (known to most as Big Dumb). Unfortunately tonight he was rushed to the emergency vet to have emergency surgery for bloat. Thankfully Kaitlin was able to recognize the signs immediately, and the family jumped into action to get him help. Unfortunately the cost to cover the surgery ranges from Low end: $3,907- high end: $5,507. We have started a gofundme to try to raise funds to help cover the cost. I know times are hard for everyone, so if you can't donate we understand. I just ask that you at least share. Every bit helps.

Rocky Road K9 - SC has been collecting donations for those affected by Helene. Today Kaitlin and the boys delivered them to North Myrtle Beach Police / North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue. They are collecting items until Thursday, then will be delivering them to those in need. Thank you to those that donated!

Hey folks. I want to make a post of our own. We are collecting items to take up to NC to those affected by Helene. We have made an amazon wish list and will be accepting donations of any type to take up. We are working to make connections with private people and private organizations to ensure that these items get where they are needed. We will not be giving any items to government agencies. We will also be able to take cash donations and will purchase items that are needed. EVERYTHING will go towards helping those in need. I am adding the amazon wish list link as well as paypal, cashapp, venmo. I am more than happy to arrange to meet with anyone as well.
