Make a difference — join our team!
Volunteers are the backbone of the Westwind Riding Institute program! No previous experience is necessary — just an interest in horses and children, and a desire to help. Students can receive community service credits.
Volunteer opportunities include side-walking, horse care, and more. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. We also welcome volunteers interested in helping with social media, WRI coordination, grant writing, and fundraising events. For more information about volunteering, read our Volunteer Guidelines.
Volunteer Opportunities
We are currently in need of side-walkers and horse leaders. We provide an orientation and a safety training class for all volunteers. Orientation sessions are held in the main barn in the community room rain or shine. Training sessions meet in the community room and are held in the upper arena. Please see the session schedule for orientation and training days/times.
Side-walkers walk next to the mounted rider during class, assisting as necessary.
Horse leaders lead their assigned horse in class. The leader is also responsible for grooming and tacking the horse.
