Whoa! I haven't seen a Quail in like 25 years!! Until today! We actually went to the local Desert Primeland Reserve & we saw this Quail sitting on this bush! 😊

The jungle bush quail (Perdicula asiatica) is a species of quail found in the Indian subcontinent, ranging across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. They are typically found in small groups of 6-25 birds.
The diet of the jungle bush quail consists mainly of seeds. particularly of grasses, although it also takes insects.
The male jungle bush quail has a white moustache, heavily barred white underparts, and variegated wings. The female has a uniform, rich chestnut breast and belly.

Peanut is helping me with gardening this morning. She’s showing me where to plant the pretty flowers and digging up the soil. She’s more of a distraction than help, really. 😂😂 I keep stopping to kiss her head..why is she so cute🥰🥜

Cleaned the quail hutches today and almost lost this guy. He always plans his escapes on coop cleaning day 😂. Finally I had enough and held him in my hand while cleaning the pen using my other🤦🏻‍♂️. I love raising buttons, but if you’re not quick enough when you go in their pen, they’ll straight up fly away on you 😂

It’s been hot enough over the weekend that even our usually very skittish California quail couldn’t be bothered to head for cover at more than a leisurely pace.

Beautiful things in a set of perpetually dirty hands ✨
I’m finding quail surprisingly pleasant and easy to keep. Their tractor-style homes mean zero clean-up, and moving them takes all of 10 minutes a day.
They make only gentle noises and cause no damage to their surroundings. They don’t eat very much, yet are quite consistent layers of these lovely, little gems. A large dust bath and some hideaways inside their tractors are all they seem to require, outside of food and water.
For me, they involved a much smaller startup investment, overall, than chickens. I’m sort of surprised that they aren’t kept by more people. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never be without my chickens, but for folks where chickens are restricted, I think quail should be considered as a great, non-obtrusive alternative.
You will, however, be opening a much higher number of eggs for your morning breakfast when eating quail versus chicken eggs—I had 12 today! 😂
