Happy Dog Mom Day!
This little chicken nugget did her first walk with another dog after working through leash reactivity✨😊 I’m so super proud of you, Lily!
Ya gotta love a George🥰

Congratulations, Team Brea! She is officially a Canine Good Citizen🏆🙌🐾 Brea and her mom and dad have been working so hard. It was such a great visit🥰 safe travels you three!
I hope you enjoyed time in nature with your favorite animals today.
Happy Earth Day 🌱 🌎🌸
Who is ready for the weekend?
These kids🥰💫🎉 George & Gemma!
Happy Friday y’all! Had a great time hiking with my best buds and Rocky and his sister Lucky. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay away from those flippin’ foxtails!
Happy Sunday!
This is Brea. She is one of my bestest buds😊 Here we are working on a 3min down-stay in a public area. She nailed it💯
It will never cease to amaze me how smart our dogs are. Dogs think, they problem solve, and it can be argued that they affect our behavior as much as we affect theirs.
One of my favorite things about teaching dogs is the time I get to watch the wheels turn in their head as they make connections and try out different behaviors.
This is also why clicker training is so cool to me. If you really think about it, your dog has a much bigger burden in the learning equation. We say something like “sit” or let’s be honest, it’s more like “sit sit sit” and then your dog tries out a bunch of things: barking, jumping, pawing, and then bingo! they try sitting. We give them their reward and try again. Your dog has to whittle away all of the other possibilities and make the connection that our word “sit” means their body movement into a sitting position. They also have to connect that responding correctly to our word “sit” will earn them reinforcement.
There are a lot more moving parts to learning even the simplest behavior. Our dogs deserve respect, understanding, and a willingness to strive for clarity when we teach. Your dog is thinking, so let’s try to be the best teachers we can be.
Please welcome my new puppy friend, Gino!
We made it down the mountain! 🐺❄️🏔
Oh but look at Rocky all handsome in his bandana!
Team Harry is happily learning to just chill:)
Practice practice practice.
Okay, so muzzles can be a little tricky to fit and close properly. It is easy to fumble a lot when securing the straps, so grab a stuffed animal and practice a bit. Your dog should already be happily holding their nose in the muzzle for a good 15-20 seconds before you start practicing with the closures.
😍😍😍 seriously tho?!
Living with a dog who has behavioral issues can feel overwhelming.
It’s okay to take a break from working on it. It’s okay to miss a day. It’s okay if today you could only do the bare minimum.
Your mental health matters. Your dog will be fine.
Happy Sunday! 😊🌅🤩
This is my bud, Lily! She’s a very very very cute Aussie-Corgi mix😍 She’s a total sweetheart, but struggles with new people. We’re changing that little by little. Look at the happy face!
This is one of my favorite quotes by Carl Sagan and if you haven’t read any of his books, I highly recommend that you do.
This quote rings true for me in so many ways. When it comes to living with and training a canine companion it is my responsibility to ask the right questions and be truthful about the answers.
I often tell the families I work with about struggling to get a loose leash with my dog. If I’m very honest with myself the loose leash is not my top priority and therefore hasn’t become consistent. Has it gotten better? Sure, but have I committed to it the way I need to? The honest answer is no.
In my not-so-great moments do I get frustrated with and judgmental of myself and Winter? Yeah. But most times I choose to live with the honest answer about where we are at and why we are there.
It’s understandable and absolutely okay to get frustrated with training progress, but we also need to stop and really ask ourselves the courageous questions and learn to accept the honest answers. I always hope that you are gentle with yourself and your dog.❤️🩹
Gotta love the pups! are the cutest and totally crushing it with some tether training and learning calm around each other and their favorite humans😊
Meet Harry! He’s a sweet and nervous little guy. He just got a haircut! Can you believe this pup used to be a fluff ball?
😍😍😍Rupert and his little grin!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. We celebrate Christmas at our house and Winter is ready! Happy Holidays❄️🎄🎉
This handsome boy has made huge strides in his ability to focus. That squirrel was barking up a storm and Rocky was cool as a cucumber😎💯🙌
Meet Sky! It’s her first week in her new home😊🥰🎉
These knuckleheads❤️🥰😊
I was in a pet store the other day when I overheard a conversation about how the owner couldn’t stand “these people with their clickers”.
That same day a person at the dog park was dragging positive reinforcement through the mud… “dogs will listen if they know who is boss”. I’ll admit that I cracked a smile when their dog wouldn’t come when called.
I truly believe that dominance and alpha-based training techniques would become a thing of the past if more people understood their dog’s capacity to learn and what effect dominance has on their well-being.
Does punishment work? Yeah, you bet it does. But what kind of relationship do you want? Do you want to suppress behavior or change behavior?
Meet Blue:) He is 50% dog and 50% fruit bat. We are working on comfort around strangers and building confidence navigating Los Angeles.

Here’s a quick clip of Rocky running through an emergency stop drill. The key here is to get your dog excited about running back and forth before asking for a stop. I want to work on this behavior when Rocky is excited so that he has practiced responding in a heightened state. As an added distraction his sister was kinda free to do whatever. He crushed it and I’m super pumped for him🙌😊❤️ #emergencystop #recalltraining #recalltraininginprogress #dogsonhikes #hikingwithdogs #positivereinforcementdogtraining #behaviorscience #dogs #whitelab #whitelabrador #labsofinstagram #fortheloveofdogs #dogtrainer #dogsofsantamonica
#mayorrocky is just crushing his leash skills and emergency stops. Rocky’s family has dreams of off leash hikes so it is important that he knows the “stop” cue in as many contexts as possible. 🙌💪😎 #positivereinforcementtraining #labradorretriever #goodboy #labsofinstagram #cutedogs #offleashtraining #whitelab #yellowlab #yellowlabsquad #santamonica #santamonicadogs #dogtraining #pawrenting #dogtrainer #rewardyourdog #trainforit #losangelesdogtrainer
Team Toby completed their #separationanxiety program like champs🏆 Toby was able to chill out for a full 30min while his mom drove down the road. 🙌💪❤️ What an awesome accomplishment for both of them! Quimby had a total blast learning some puppy agility. Starting with very low, very simple obstacles (get creative, you don’t have to buy stuff for this) you can build up confidence, grit, and basic motor skills. 🚨Remember to take it easy and keep everything very low as landing from high jumps can damage your puppies joints. #agilitytraining #puppytraining #puppyagility #cutedogs #positivereinforcementtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #schnauzersofinstagram #schnauzerpuppy #minischnauzer #cutenessoverload
Mayor Rocky is really getting the hang of his “down” cue. In this video we were working on discriminating between a hand signal and a verbal cue. This was his first session and he nailed it. As for me, I could have been a bit more uniform in my motions especially that shoulder dip and smashing the second cue together (rushing😬), but we’re on the right track. Are there any “bad” habits you’re working on as a trainer? #mayorrocky #lab #labrador #labradorretriever #clickertraining #positivereinforcementtraining #cuediscrimination #santamonicadogs #trainyourdog #goodboyfriday #dogtrainerproblems #dogtraining #dogtrainer
Happy Friday! Here’s a clip of Team Rupert crushing a new game: toy switch😊 Toy switching is an awesome game that helps dogs learn to think in arousal, engage/disengage, and it is an excellent way to supercharge your “out”/“drop” cue. Play with one toy then stop animating it while you bring the other toy to life. Don’t give up, eventually your dog is going to switch to the active toy. Have fun! #toyswitching #playwithyourdog #dogtrainingshouldbefun #dogtrainer #dogtraining #concepttraining #reactivedogsunite #dogsarefamily #positivereinforcementtraining #positivetraining #dogs #fridayvibes #pawrenting101 #pawrenting #dogsoflosangeles #westladogs

It’s been a while since my bud Luna has practiced “heel” so we did some treat chasing to make it more fun. This “heel” is pretty loose-y goose-y but It’s useful when Luna gets too far ahead on walks or just needs to be close for a minute. #dogtraining #clickertraining #positivereinforcementtraining #reactivedogsunite #dogsofinstagram #dogtrainer #lovewhatyoudo #petdogs #trainyourdog #reactivedogsuccess #forcefreereactivity

A lot of the families I work with are training dogs who get overwhelmed in public spaces and tend to react in a less than ideal manner. Guess whose dog also needs work in that area? Yah, mine does. Here is a short video of @winterinhollywoof working on calming down in public. Her reward is her favorite #puppuccino from Starbucks which she was amped about devouring. In this video I click for a few different reasons: laying down with relative calm (notice the first one she has something to say to me🤪), next was disengaging from staring intently at what she wanted, and the third was calmly noticing a kid go by (Winter loves children). This is an example of what I do whenever I bring Winter out to public spaces. Since she tends to get fussy while waiting I am ready to reward progress towards settling. If your dog struggles in this area as well, it’s a good idea to plan on quick, real-life training sessions. Bring those rewards! #positivereinforcementtraining #calmdog #reactivedogsunite #reactivedog #rescuedog #dogtraining #dogtrainer #rescuedogsofinstagram #forcefreereactivity #culvercitydogs #siberianhusky #reallifedogtraining #starbucksdog #trainingcalm

We’re up in the mountains for a little break from the city. As far as we know this is Winter’s first time in the woods. Honestly, she is a little out of sorts: overstimulated and overtired. This is not uncommon when traveling with your doggo. Some dogs will go with the flow and some dogs will need a little more patience and care. To ease things we brought chews, toys, and her mat from home so she’d have some sense of normalcy. She’s embraced running amuck in our backyard though. We’ve played tons of fetch and climbed on all the things🏔🌲🐕 as you can see in the video. #adventuredog #husky #dogtrainersdog #dogtrainer #dogtraining #traveldogs #positivereinforcementtraining #reactivedogsunite #rescuedog #sanbernardino #twinpeaks #bigbear

I was so happy to receive a quick video message from Team Maya this weekend. With permission to share, I slowed it down so you can really see how many dogs were nearby. Last fall we started working together on Maya’s barking and lunging at other dogs. Maya’s mom seized the challenge and even invested in her own decoy dog to work with Maya. They’ve since moved to NYC and have made stunning progress that you can see in the clip. I hope all of the families struggling with reactivity are inspired by Team Maya. It is a real joy seeing students succeed😊 #sundaymotivation #reactivedogtraining #reactivedogsunite #forcefreereactivity #reactivedogsuccess #positivereinforcementtraining #clickertrainer #dogtrainer #rescuedogsrule #losangeles #losangelesdogs #losangelesdogtrainer
One of my current goals is to post more training videos with my number one bud, @winterinhollywoof 🐺. This is part of a quick session on a cute trick called “wave” 👋! Behind the scenes of this little session has been loads of work building up a strong response to the clicker and food reinforcement outdoors. It didn’t come easy and a few months ago an outdoor session on such a concentrated movement would have been a disaster. There was one little hiccup with Winter going into a down position, but it was my fault for putting food on the mat😬. We recovered with a sit from down which I rewarded to keep my rate of reinforcement high. Proud of my pup😍 #positivereinforcementtraining #clickertraining #clickertrainer #reactivedogsuccess #husky #huskylove #reactivedogsunite #snackleader #forcefreereactivity #rescuedog #dogtricks #tricktraining #dogtrainer #losangelesdogtrainer #alwayswearingflannel
