This big guy loves to jump!

These pictures are one of the first moments (after we trained for at least 30 minutes) where I could pet him without it causing him to be so excited that he would jump all over me.

It takes patience and consistency to change behavior. Go slow and be clear with your goals and you will see results!

Some graduates from this weekend!

Send me an email ([email protected]) if you’d like to join group classes!

Class is best suited for puppies and adolescents but can be beneficial at any age to reinforce behaviors you like in a highly distracting environment.

Jack tired after working!

Jack is a quick learner with a significant fear of being around other dogs and loud sounds. We are slowly desensitizing him to his fears and play has been the best help in this process.

Working on weariness around strangers with this sweetheart.

Remember when working with fear to start slow. Fearful behavior and body language is a guidepost. Don’t ignore those signs of fear but instead identify the triggers and methodically work on changing how your dog feels about them.

Our goal is a confident and curious dog instead of a fearful and hyper vigilant dog.

The importance of a check-in.

I love teaching this behavior because it helps with everyday walks and eventually off leash hikes. I want to make sure my dog Kira checks back in with me and doesn’t run full speed away from me to something more exciting.

The environment is very reinforcing for most dogs and checking in with their guardian in those exciting environments can be a hard skill to master.

I start this behavior inside and then work up to more distracting environments.

I can not emphasize enough the importance of positive socialization.

Between 4-14/16 weeks, your puppy is like a sponge. The goal is to carefully expose your puppy to all the wonders of the world to create a resilient and confident adult dog.

If you have questions or need help with puppy socialization, please reach out!

Peek-a-boo!

A little reminder that letting your dog on the couch or bed doesn’t cause aggression.

It is fine if your prefer them not to be on those surfaces. I just want to dispel the myth that this will create behavior problems.

Fear…just skip it when teaching your pal a new skill. They will thank you for being trustworthy and safe.

When working with a dog that is fearful, don’t add more fear into the training by using force, punishment or coercion.
