This heart-wrenching photo captures the stark contrast between human cruelty and animal compassion. Milly, the dog on the stretcher, has suffered unimaginable abuse. She was ridiculed, painted, tied up, dragged behind a car, and ultimately sh--o--t. Her ordeal is a testament to the depths of human cruelty.

Yet, amidst this darkness, there is a glimmer of hope. A Border Collie, also a victim of abuse, approaches Milly with tenderness. Despite their own suffering, this compassionate dog stays by Milly's side, offering comfort and support. It's a powerful reminder that even in the face of cruelty, there are beings who show unwavering kindness and solidarity. ❤️

Sam used to not be allowed in the bedroom. This was Scooter’s home (the bedroom) and he is not cat safe so she lived sequestered in here. She had a special little pillow right in between Scott and me 💜 Since she’s been gone, Sam has slowly integrated onto the bed with us. Now it’s the comfiest place in the whole world for this boy. He’s Snug as a Bug in a Rug!! 😂🐶

Today was my first day home since we put our Scooter to sleep. (I had overnight work since the 18th and just got home last night). Scooter was in hospice basically and we had done a lot to make her life safe and comfortable.

I had a lmore time and space this morning and got a lot accomplished. I didn’t have to go from the bedroom to the kitchen to fill up 3 different water bowls. I didn’t have to pour out all the dry food from the week and come up with fresh bowls and food I would think she’d like (she got bored easily with food and we literally threw out 30 lbs of opened dry cat food that we were rotating). The stress all the time of watching to make sure she was eating and using the litterbox -specifically -pooping. Every day I would monitor if there were any little nuggets to scoop. I knew if there weren’t for more than a day or two we were in crisis. The litterbox was in our bedroom bathroom. Every time I went in there I would scoop it if needed. It was always scooped and kept up on and I washed the whole thing once a week to keep it clean and fresh: I was constantly bending and scooping, bending and scooping. When I go in the bathroom now I catch myself bending to scoop but no litterbox is there anymore. (Scott got rid of it first thing. P**p and litter smell has not been very romantic for a guy for 15 years of our life together -basically -I’m Lucky to be married! and back in the beginning out of all the cats-Scooter always had the stinkiest poops of all!) 😹

I didn’t have to put thyroid medication on her ear or try to get her to lick the laxative off of my finger and I didn’t have to give her the appetite stimulant today.

I didn’t have to figure out what soft food she would eat and make sure to put a Little hot water in it to make gravy (but not too much). I didn’t have to stand there and watch her to make sure she ate or if she didn’t -try another brand, flavor or try baby food. I didn’t have to bring her her water and hold it for her while she drank (because toward the end she couldn’t really stand anymore on the pillow to drink the water from the bedside table).

Today I had a lot more time in the morning and got a lot more done. 3 loads of laundry, proofreading some marketing materials, scanned something to send to my accountant. Even played a little ball with Sam.

But…. I would have given almost anything to have had those chores to do for Scooter this morning. 😿🫶
