The Rescue Train The Rescue Train’s deep-rooted goals are to be a voice for animals and to help save as many lives as possible.

The Rescue Train is a unique, non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill organization dedicated to eliminating animal suffering and euthanasia through hands-on rescue work, education and awareness. We fulfill our mission through our key initiatives: rescue and rehome, shelter intervention, dedication to spay and neuter, and collaboration with other like-minded organizations. We aim to drastically reduce the num

ber of animals entering kill shelters and animals living on the streets of Los Angeles. Many of our life-saving programs help lay a foundation of lasting change through community outreach and celebrate the human-animal bond. Our Shelter intervention Program and Pet Pantry prevent animals from entering Los Angeles City shelters by providing resources to low income, senior citizens, veterans and homeless pet owners. We offer free spay and neuter to help solve pet overpopulation at the root of the problem. Our Pet Care Clinics go into areas of poverty to provide resources that includes vaccines, grooming, referrals to vet care, pet food and supplies.

We serviced 202 pets in one beautiful day. 💫 Our Mobile Pet Assistance Event brought smiles, tail wags and love to all who attended.

Handsome 2 year old neutered BOSS was found walking the neighbor again in Los Angeles but this time it is because his owner is not able to return so Boss needs a person/family.

is sending a howling THANK YOU (plus some wagging tails and slobbery kisses) to Chuck, Yael, and their incredible dream team at and ! 🐾

Their Miracle Makeover at East Valley Animal Shelter was nothing short of magical. 🌟 A village of groomers rolled up in 12 mobile grooming trucks, volunteering their time and talent to give 99 dogs a full spa day. These pups were transformed—squeaky clean and stylish—ready to charm their way into forever homes just in time for the holidays. 🎄🎅

was also there capturing these cuties’ glow-ups with brand-new adoption photos. 📸✨

When Sandy arrived at her foster home with her babies, she was a fiercely protective mama. Her foster mom, Margie, had to suit up in gloves just to weigh Sandy’s kittens! But as time passed, Sandy’s guard melted away, and soon she was putting her paws on Margie’s lap, gazing up with her soulful eyes, asking for love and attention. ❤️

This holiday season, we’re thrilled to share that Sandy (now Harriet) has found her forever home! Friends of a Rescue Train volunteer were looking for a little more mature, friendly cat. While kittens often steal the spotlight, Sandy’s gentle spirit won them over. 🐾

Now, Harriet has claimed her cozy space in her new home - a perched cat tree to watch the world and she is slowly getting to know her new furry housemates. Slow and steady wins the race!

Please consider giving a mama cat a second chance this holiday season. They have so much love to give and are true treasures waiting to be unwrapped. 🎁

🎾 THE WAY THE RESCUE BALL BOUNCES FOR PENELOPE 🐷✨

Sometimes, life takes unexpected turns—like the way the ball bounces for Penelope the Pot Belly Pig.

For most of her 3 years, Penelope was a beloved pet. But when a neighbor called animal control, her family learned that pigs aren’t allowed in Los Angeles residential zones. With animal control’s hands tied, Penelope was brought to the shelter. 💔
This is where the ball started bouncing... and teamwork made it soar:

🐖 LA shelter staff reached out to The Rescue Train to help network her.
📲 We texted our friends at to share her story.
🚨 spotted Penelope and sent an SOS to their contacts.
🌟 Moosebutt Rescue Ranch (yes, we love the name too!) saw Penelope and opened their hearts to save her.
🚛 They brought a trailer to the West Valley Animal Shelter to pick her up.
💸 coordinated with the shelter and paid her fee.
🏃‍♀️🐷 And just like that, in under 24 hours, Penelope—who weighs a whopping 180 lbs—was OUT OF THE SHELTER and starting her new life! 🎉

Here are our favorite parts of this story:
❤️ Moosebutt Rescue Ranch is generously allowing Penelope’s former owner to visit her, which we know will be healing for both of them.
🌾 The Rescue Train just made more amazing friends in the farm animal rescue world.

It really does take a village. 🏘️💪 So often, teamwork makes the dream work for animals like Penelope.

🎾Match Point for Mewsette and Sylvie. 🎾
Our PAWsome foster mom, Margie, took excellent care of Mama cat Sandy and her four babies. While the rest of the siblings were adopted quickly, these shy girls, named Mewsette and Sylvie, rallied for over two years for their Game, Set, Match. 😻😻

Enter two retired teachers ready to serve love after losing their senior kitty. They initially wanted two kittens but when they met this duo, they instantly fell in love.

Now named Billie Jean and Chrissie (tennis legends!) the sisters are thriving in their forever home. A huge thank you to foster mom for giving them love and patience, while they waited for their PURRfect adoption Ace. We love a PURRfect match on the Rescue Train, especially older, bonded pairs who can be more difficult to place. Now that’s a GRAND SLAM! 🙌

Momma cat Maple and her “seedlings” – Alder, Aspen, and Juniper, came into this world in an overflowing LA shelter during kitten season. Their fragile little faces broke our hearts, and knew we had to act fast to save them. 💔

Thanks to our incredible foster mom, Jennifer, this family found a safe haven filled with love. 🌟 But sweet baby Juniper needed more than love - she was gravely ill, refusing to eat, and had to be rushed to the emergency vet for fluids, medications, and specialized care.
