STRYKER - AVAILABLE for ADOPTION
9 year old Quarter Horse Gelding

What happens when a horse walks up to you and says β€œtake me home.” You melt, you give him a big hug and you tell him β€œI will find your person.”

Stryker has been with is current owner since he was 2 years old. He was used for cutting and barrels, and excelled at everything that was asked of him. But the competitive life is not what he could handle, and the stress of that life showed up as serious kidney issue. He made a full recovery, but recently showed signs of this issue returning. Rather than put him through the physical and mental anxiety of competition, his owner felt it was best to find him a person or family he could relax with, and give him the life he wants.

Stryker needs someone who can keep him on a proper diet to avoid any kidney relapse issues (no alfalfa, timothy hay only) and spend quality time with him, walking the trails and playing with toys. He is super smart and funny, and has a lot of energy when he is feeling 100%, so an experienced rider would be best for him. He loves (and I do mean really loves) children and gets along with other horses. Other than his kidney issue, he is 100% sound and healthy. He is currently barefoot and does will without shoes. Saffyre Sanctuary will provide lifelong consultations with his adoptive family, and advising with other nutritional experts, to ensure he receives the best diet and holistic guidance to support this very manageable condition.

Stryker needs someone who understands horse-heart relationship. His time of being used as a tool is over, and he will excel with someone who has the time, love and attention that he deserves. He will/does need to get exercised daily to keep his energy in check (he can go!) Doing trail trial activities would calm his mind and allow him to express his intelligence in a fulfilling way that will keep his busy brain occupied. Stryker is a very special horse who prefers to cuddle and be spoiled.

Serious inquiries only.

Giving Tuesday has become a wonderful tradition, reminding us of those who serve behind the scenes, quietly taking care of those who are unable to care for themselves, or assisting those 4-leggeds who ask for help behind closed gates, sometimes in not so ideal conditions.

If you are unable to join us at our Holiday Everything Must Go Sale December 6-7, and would like to make a contribution to our organization, we would be eternally grateful and humbled by your generosity. We know you have many choices of which charities you can support, and horse rescues receive less than 2% of all donated dollars. Your contribution will go further if you can ask a friend to contribute with you.

Thank you for helping Saffyre Sanctuary to serve California horses in need for over 16 years. Our work is only made possible by you!

Thank you, and have an amazing holiday season! We look forward to what 2026 will bring!
