Although fireworks are illegal in LA, there will undoubtedly still be plenty of loud bangs happening as folks celebrate the holiday. Closing doors, windows, and blinds can help to distract your beloved four-legged friends from the scary sounds.

Did you know many cats dislike being hugged?

There's a simple way to tell if your cat enjoys hugs or not: they lean into it, and may also purr or drool. Cats who don’t like hugs try to flee, push you away, or give you signals that they are annoyed. They may lay their ears back, swish their tail, and even growl. Some cats will actually “freeze,” leading you to think that they don’t mind being hugged, but if you look at them closely, they may have dilated eyes and a stressed expression.

"I will be forever grateful to this team. Amazing veterinary techs, amazing doctor, advanced technology, cannot love this place more or be more grateful. My 8 year old Maltese got a shocking cancer diagnosis in the lungs. TrueCare got me a consultation the next day. We did his radiation mapping same day. By Monday he was getting treatment. Dr. Quarterman was able to treat his lung masses and safely get to the three tiny masses that spread to his liver. All reduced 50 - 70% (more still coming). He had little side effects. When he graduated treatment the team had a little celebration for him. They also worked with my insurance to get preauthorization for everything for me. At one of the most vulnerable and emotional times in mine and my dog's life they took care of us like we were family. My dog is now in chemo and is doing so well. We are so incredibly lucky we got to be treated by Dr. Quarterman and the team at TruCare."

"I came here when a freak thing happened and somehow a bat got into our house. I knew there was a chance my cat could have been bit so brought her in right away. The staff was super nice and took her in very quickly to check her out and monitor her. I was super worried and emotional and they were so nice it helped to calm me down. Luckily my baby was okay and they gave her a preventative rabies shot just in case. I hope to not have to again but I would definitely bring my baby back here if needed. Side note, please get your baby a rabies shot even if they are indoors only!!!! I didn't think it was needed but you never know when an animal can somehow come into your house. Thank you guys for making a stressful situation a little easier!!"

"My experience with the staff at TrueCare was only positive. My dog Ellie loves Dr. Norfeldt and he helped us through a difficult time when her nose suddenly broke out in blood blisters. Dr. Norfeldt was super responsive and after a biopsy found her the right medication (steroids) to fix her issue. Thank goodness the results weren’t cancerous. Pet owners, we're back with some more helpful info for you this Pet Cancer Awareness Month!

Typically, pet cancers are categorized by the body tissue from which they originate. Any tissue can become cancerous, but some malignancies are more common than others. Some of the more frequent diagnoses we see include:

Carcinoma – a tumor from the lining cells of organs or glands in the body
Leukemia – cancer of the white blood cells, originating in the bone marrow
Lymphoma – cancer of the lymph nodes
Mast cell tumor – a tumor of the cells in the skin that mediate allergic reactions
Melanoma – a cancer of the pigmented cells of the body
Osteosarcoma – a type of bone cancer
Sarcoma – tumor from the body tissues such as bone, fat, cartilage, or muscle

There are many types of cancer and we're always here to guide you through the specifics of your pet’s diagnosis.

Our Story

TrueCare for pets is a 24-hour animal emergency hospital located in the heart of La La land - Studio City, CA. We are known for our clinical skills but remembered for how much we care.

Previously known as Animal Emergency Centre, we have been serving the San Fernando Valley’s pets and their families for over 30 years. In 2018, we expanded our hours to 24/7 for emergencies. Now we’ve added more specialty services including surgery overseen by a board-certified veterinary surgeon - with more to come. Soon we will unveil our addition and remodel - a fresh, modern, and comfortable hospital that has state of the art equipment to care for pets at any hour of the day.

TrueCare for pets is the practice that gives pet owners and referring veterinary partners access to a new level of creativity and innovation in the delivery of care and service.
