Does your dog love the snow? Many of us have dogs with long hair or a double coat (Huskies, Chow Chows, and St. Bernards, just to name a few), and they love to be outside in the snow. Though they have hair to keep their bodies warm, we need to keep their feet safe. If there is ice outside where you intend on taking your dog/s, there are a couple things to keep in mind.

Ice can cut their pads which is painful. (Have you ever been cut by ice? It hurts!) They also don’t have a way to keep their feet warm. If you notice your dog holding their feet up and alternating paws, you need to get them inside right away. They are telling you their paws are freezing. (Imagine you standing outside in the cold conditions with bare feet!) An alternate solution is doggie booties if you will be outside for long periods of time with your pet.
