This is the story of a rescue cat named Mouse who did not like her carrier. The initial attempt to put her in the carrier for a much needed vet visit proved unsuccessful, and sent her mom to urgent care. While Dog Town does not typically train cats, I know that Target training with a clicker can be taught to just about any species, so 2 months ago, armed with a clicker and favorite treats, my friend and I developed a training plan. Here is the result. Today was vet day, and Mouse walked right into her carrier! Well done ladies!

This magical moment was brought to you courtesy of consistent matwork and teaching a solid "Leave it". Teddy loves to chase his kitty brother, so we needed to work on staying calm around the cat. After some weeks of working on this behavior, it is all paying off. There will still be work left to do, but I would say we are off to a great start!

This adorable little pup is just 4 months old and learning that his kitty housemate is not a fun squeaky toy to play with. By doing mat work training and teaching calmness around the cat, they will both learn to co-exist in harmony. I keep a long line on the puppy to keep him close just in case he decides to leave the mat.

Starting today, jumping in with both feet to start the Challenge. I want to love training my own dogs again, as I've had the pleasure to train so many dogs that aren't my own.

Fun Fact: Sometimes the trainer's dogs don't get the same attention they give to client's dogs, and I want to make sure that doesn't happen with my own..

It will also make me a better trainer for my clients and their 4-leggers! I hope to share my progress here and bring you along! Wish us luck!
