We had a REPTACULAR morning celebrating Desert Week with a special visit from Jennifer at 🐍🪳🐢! We got to see and touch Gregory the Leopard Gecko, some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, Redbull the Red Tegu, and Lilo the Red-Tailed Boa among many others! Even our teachers joined in the fun and took turns holding Lilo! A huge thank you to Jennifer at Reptacular for a scaly morning!

Happy Camel Day! This year, 2024, the United Nations declared it as “the year of the camelid.” Camelid you ask? That’s Llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, guanacos, and the three different species of camels. Why put such importance to Camelids? Camelids in both the old and new world have come to represent an important source of livelihood to many cultures around the world. From food, to fiber, tourism, and many other social economical benefits camelids continue to be an incredible resource for many people worldwide. I’ve been honored to use my own boys in both educational from science to history, to religious, and have even used them to pack and volunteer for the Mojave National Preserve. If Herbie, Chico, or Sully have allowed you to appreciate and view camels in a different light. Let’s flood social media today with CAMELS for CAMEL DAY! Post a picture of them on your own social media forum and tag us and tag . As many of you know the USDA is in talks about limiting what we can do with our camels in the states. This is the year to bring awareness and education to our own North American camels.

Alert: Tortoises on the Roadways! 🚨
Drive cautiously while visiting and watch out for tortoises and other wildlife 🐢🐰🐿️
Springtime brings tortoises out of their burrows in search of food and a mate. Desert tortoises have existed for an estimated 15-20 million years. For most of that time, they were not dodging mini-vans and sedans. Tortoises travel at 0.2 mph on average and have not yet developed a “jaywalk jog.”
If you see a tortoise in the road, stop and give them plenty of space to cross. If safe, try to alert others. Generally, tortoises should never be handled or touched. However, if a tortoise is in immediate danger of being struck and will not move from the roadway, carefully follow these steps. Use a barrier between you and the tortoise like gloves or a jacket to pick them up. Move them slowly and low to the ground in the direction they’re traveling. Place them 50-100 feet off the road in a shady spot. One of the reasons tortoises should not be touched outside of an emergency situation is that they can void their bladder if scared. They can store water for up to one year, and voiding their bladder can be very detrimental to their health.
Thank you for helping us protect these ancient reptiles! 🐢 💚

SUPER PROUD of the boys. Another one of Nance Fite incredible projects she invited us to. Showing the world how amazing camels can be one event, one project at a time. Great article to continue this years celebration of Camels 🙏

Camels volunteering in the US to make a difference in the biome of the California Mojave desert.

A new solution to save the iconic Joshua tree uses a distant relative of one of the Mojave’s ancient seed distributors: The camel.
