Happy 4th! We rode, we spent the evening looking after the horses as the fireworks blazed and we ate pizza. The pets slept. We took the opportunity to train Wili to take meds using positive reinforcement. Everyone remained calm, so a good job was done by the team. The horses welfare comes first!

We're in a heavily urban environment, not at all natural, which presents training challenges and opportunities. We're beside the LA river with one of the major freeways in earshot and on a helicopter flight path. There is a construction site on the property next door and lots of horses all in the arena at the same time so we took the opportunity to work with 4 year old Olani on a short trail ride to expand her horizons. She had a trusted companion with her, which meant she took the golfers, cyclists, dog walkers, traffic, construction, and even a shopping trolly in her stride. You never know what you might meet next in LA!

We went out on the riverbank with the 4yr old to make the most of the spring grass. Getting the horses accustomed to the urban life of Los Angeles takes patience and time so we train in little steps to build confidence.

I think they do! Can we respect the horse enough to honor those feelings? Some definitions of respect: 1.admiration 2. Regard for feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others 3. To consider worthy of high regard. Food for thought. Along with the feelings i believe horses have, can they also think in terms of admiration or have high regard for other horses or humans? I dont know.....but i do have admiration for horses and i can only hope they regard me with tolerance and fondness, if they are not capable of admiration!
