Here is another one of the large group of guinea pigs we took in over the weekend. As is often the norm, with larger rescued groups, they are rarely healthy, and all our resources and time goes to getting them better so they can land softly in a great new home. I named this baby Zippy. As you can see Zippy has ringworm on the side of his nose and in many different spots all over his body. They are due for another bath tomorrow. Little Stinky arrived today with 22 others. They are malnourished and emaciated. His body looks like that of a really old senior with skin over bones. The whole group has fungus issues, so we had a busy day bathing everyone. We did antifungal as well as lice shampoo because some of them had fur mites. After baths we tucked them into their clean cages with lots and lots of greens and other yummies. 30 days from today they will look like entirely different animals and will share that with you all. Little Stinky is only 5 months old. How cute is he though?

This the 14-year-old me loving on bunnies. In my neighborhood there were NO guinea pigs but lots and lots of bunnies. Most lived a life of neglect outdoors, and in those wooden hutches, I am not a fan of. (these were all small hutches) . Nails were never trimmed. It was all the rage back then and every family with a child had bunnies. This is exactly where I started. I felt so very badly for the buns that I used to go from house to house and trim bunny nails. Pictured is not my bunny (I had two) and also not the home I grew up in, this is one of the buns I cared for. 4 years later I met my first guinea pigs and the rest is history!

Happy Thanksgiving! Here at the Guinea Pig Rescue we have so very much to be grateful for. Like the wee little two day old baby in the photo. His mama got pregnant because the daddy was not secured. By taking her family in and providing a safe place for mama to have her babies, we ended this particular cycle of pregnancies. And we are grateful for that. This is just one very small example of the work we do, and I feel very blessed to be able to continue it. Thank you to all of you for your support and donations throughout the years! We rescued 7 Guinea pigs from the West Valley shelter. Cowgirl was one of them and her feet are so neglected and accumulated years worth of fungus that her little feetsie actually look like a chicken foot.

Of the 7 Guinea pigs we rescued 5 are not healthy and need to be fixed Up first. A senior mom and girl duo arrived, the daughter has terrible crusty ni***es tell tale hair loss. She suffers from ovarian cysts /reproductive issues. A hormone injection should set her straight. For the mama unfortunately help came too late and she has grown a massive tumor in her belly Which I do believe could have been avoided if she'd had the hormone treatment on time. We'll post picks of those 2 later.

Guinea Pig Family!!!! So sorry I have seemed to have gone "quiet' these past weeks, but am not any more because I just returned from a much needed vacation. Our first break in over six years. I was in Portugal and then in Italy where our families live. My best friend got married in Italy as well and I was there! My brother, sister and I finally spread my mum's ashes in the Portuguese ocean, per her wishes. I got completely wiped out by a massive wave but that was all good. My son Izzy was already on stand by since he figured I would do something silly and he saved me. LOL. Instead of crying we all laughed so hard and that was awesome! I searched for Portuguese and Italian guinea pigs to share with you, but was very sad to find none. I was in the backwoods and the chance I would find some, I knew, was small. Ok now back to the guinea pigs and the rescue. We do not receive government assistance and work hard to not rely entirely on donations. But right now, THE RESCUE NEEDS YOU!! Our Fall Raffle is on the way and ends this Saturday during our regular weekly Live Stream on our Youtube Channel. The ticket sales have been seriously down sadly and we hope you will get excited and support the rescue. Tickets are only $2.50 each. Did you know we are offering weekend bubble bath slots? At LAGPR, we recommend that all piggies get an anti-fungal bath every 3-4 months to prevent ringworm and fungal feet.

By now a lot of you have heard that number of guinea pig groups have been targeted by Facebook and had the groups shut down pending an appeal decision. We too have been affected and this also includes Instagram. No one knows what it is that is causing the issue and what rules the groups have allegedly broken. Our main page is still up but the Wheekers Group page is not. My personal profile and all other related pages have also been flagged as well as the personal profiles of some of the moderators of the group. There is no Rhyme or reason to it. Please keep us all in your thoughts, not just us but all the other guinea pig groups that have been affected. We are waiting for the results of the appeal. It kinda is starting to feel like a war on guinea pigs.
