Rounding up the Wild Guinea Pigs. ๐Ÿฅน
The full video of the whole rescue operation will be ready soon but here is a little taste of what we were up against.
The pig at the front of the thumbnail image has a bad bumble foot and is pregnant. She is now safe and getting the treatment she needs!! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

The lack of babies and younger pigs was a sad indication that these animals were in extreme danger. I was told some were also killed by cars because the road was right there. And then there are Racoons, Hawks, Owls, dogs and cats. You name it. So blessed that we are able to offer them safety and lots of love ofcourse.

Thank you all for being such a loving and compassionate community. Your support is vital because without it this rescue would not have been possible. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ˜ฒ Need your help to rescue a large group of pigs. Males and females are not separated. There are likely many sick guinea pigs as well as pregnant guinea pigs and babies that are roughing it outdoors.

If we do one thing well, it is jumping in to rescue large groups of extremely vulnerable guinea pigs. These have been exposed to the elements. We have had record-breaking rain storms all week that they went through.

Not sure of the state they are in. I was told quite a few are not doing too well. And quite a few are pregnant. This is a picture of the animals in question, but that one was taken a while ago. Not sure what they look like now, but I will find out tomorrow.

We need help. ๐Ÿ™ Groups like these are expensive to take in, and with the boarding season over, we have very little funds available for a huge, costly rescue like this. I normally let you all know after the pigs are rescued, safe and at the rescue, but this time, we need to start fundraising now.
Please HELP! ๐Ÿฅฒ

BIG MAMA UPDATE!! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
She is a lovable trouble maker. In all my years I have not come across a guinea pig that would remove surgical stitches or staples after a procedure but she sure did. Twice did she remove them and opening up the area.

She had a mammary gland tumor and irregular weepy skin flaps right next to it. The instructions were to remove all and save her life. The vet decided, without talking to me first, to tackle only the tissue and leave the tumor.
Big Mama tore her stitches out and a huge gaping hole remained.
She went back a second time and was stitched with staples this time. These, too, she ripped out. And, again, the tumor was not removed.

So this poor thing had to go in a third time. This time, the tumor was finally removed, and the surgical site looked wonderful, though I was warned that her prognosis was guarded. We need to keep that infection under control.

This time around I put a fabric cone on her. Sadly, it took her no time at all to remove the cone on the second day. She did get to her stitches somewhat, but it all still looks good. I had to safety pin her cone and add another smaller cone to prevent her from licking and pulling at the staples.

So that is where we are at with her. These pics were taken an hr ago. She is eating and pooping, though terribly unhappy about her cone but healing!!!! Finally!!
She is not out of the woods yet. This upcoming week is crucial. I will keep you updated. Thank you, ALL of you who supported her and are rooting for her. .

Update on Big Mama's Surgery

01/21/2025

Big mama was surrendered with a heck of a nasty mammary gland tumor that will kill her unless she gets surgery. She is a the vet right now getting this surgery done. Her previous vet told the owner that it was a cyst but sadly that is no cyst. (watch the video to see what it looks like) Just this month we have done 2 more surgeries like these on lady pigs. It saves them and adds years to a life. Big mama has another 4 good years ahead with the surgery. We don't ask often but surgeries are big bad beasts eating away at our budget and we must at times ask for our guinea pig family's help. Today is is such a day.
I was able to make a deal and the surgery cost will come to $600 - $700 A very good price here in LA. If we raise more than that it will go toward future surgeries. Thank you my loving guinea pig family. Without you this place would not be. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
