Cottonwood Urban Farm

We are a local vegetable farm focussing on the cross section of food, community, and education.

Nestled in the basin of the Tujunga Wash in the North East San Fernando Valley, Cottonwood Urban Farm (CUF) uses creative growing techniques (season extension, intercropping, succession planting, etc) to cultivate a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs without the use of large scale farm equipment. CUF is currently in a transformational phase of becoming an agricultural enterprise that fulfills

our goals of (1) providing locally grown produce and programming for Panorama City community members; and (2) providing fresh, organic produce to serve the needs of restaurants and chefs that value sustainability. Social responsibility is a value at CUF and currently CUF runs horticulture therapy and education programming for local youth recovering from substance abuse.

SFV Residents Only!! the official partner nonprofit at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, is hosting a free narrowleaf milkweed giveaway at the CUF!

Why Native Milkweed?

Narrowleaf milkweed is a gorgeous native plant that serves as a host for monarch butterflies to lay their eggs. Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on milkweed leaves. Help us restore the monarch butterfly population by picking up and caring for your own milkweed plants.

They will be giving away free narrowleaf milkweed at the Cottonwood Urban Farm in Panorama City on June 28 from 9am-12pm. A pack of six to four plants per household will be given out to ensure hungry monarch caterpillars have enough to eat.

The CUF community compost hub with will be closed this Saturday 6/7. Food scrap drop-off will still be accessible through the 24/7 drop-off window.

Welcome to the new Soil Lab! After a short hiatus, our friends are bringing back the Community Soil Lab with a few upgrades. We had a test run this weekend so thank you to everyone that came out. Link in bio to sign up for the May lab!

Last call for jars and containers for the school year! Associated Students Productions & Sustainability at CSUN is hosting Refill and Repair a couple times this semester where students can refill different body care products and repair their clothing.

We're looking for pre-loved containers that can be reused for those who did not bring their own containers and need refills. This is an ongoing event so donations are appreciated anytime.

Jars can be dropped off up until Saturday 4/12 by 12pm.

CONTAINTERS SHOULD:
-be clean, dry, and empty
-have a lid!!
- labels removed if possible
-be spill proof (can be tightly sealed with liquid and won't leak)
-hold at least 8 fluid ounces

Our amazing volunteer will pick them up and deliver them to CSUN!

The farm is about to burst! There are lots of tiny buds that are going to get real big real soon including these tiny cottonwood leaves. Plus, the ducks are busy laying some eggs. Be sure to stop by over the next few weeks to check out the spring beauty!
