European-style Show Jumping. We stress the importance of dressage and strive to create serious show jumping riders.

Our Philosophy:

We believe in the “win – win” philosophy. We want our riders to win, our horses to win, and our staff to win. This attitude is the most effective way to improve your riding skills and train your horse to his ultimate potential. Here at Mischief Farm we believe that, above all else, this should be fun, for both riders and horses. We want our horses to have a well-rounded education,

and to do everything expected of a well-trained horse. Every horse should be capable of going on trail, jumping (soundness permitting), doing flat work, going cross-country, and attending shows. We feel very strongly that all of our horses should have a solid base in dressage, regardless of the career they end up with. This sets them up for success, and makes them far more willing and able to do what is asked of them. The horse's physical comfort is also extremely important, as no horse can perform well if he is uncomfortable in his body or his tack. We inspect all our horses every day for health and soundness issues, and have an excellent veterinarian, farrier, and equine massage therapist available to address any problems. We also check tack fit for every ride, to ensure that the horse’s equipment will not restrict or interfere with his ability to do his job. We consider ourselves to be "conservative minimalists," and use only the basic tack necessary to ride or work our horses. We use this mentality throughout all of our training: “ask little, ask often, reward the try.”

Our riders also benefit from this approach. Whether you want to just improve your knowledge and ride the trails, or have aspirations to go the “A” show circuit route, we can help you become a more effective rider, and increase your horse/human communication skills, both on the ground and in the saddle. We start all riders with the sensible basics of dressage: a proper seat, correct body position, quiet hands, and an understanding of how to move and interact with your horse. As riding instructors, we see ourselves as your coach and cheerleader, and feel that encouragement and positive reinforcement are far more effective teaching tools than fear and intimidation. Once you are confident at the walk/trot/canter, your future riding career is entirely up to you. Our students ride dressage, trail, cross-country, and jumpers, and many do local and rated shows. ❤️ So In Love ❤️
CWD has truly outdone themselves this time. I have dreamt of having this saddle for a long time and am beyond thrilled to be able to finally make that happen. The quality of these saddles is fantastic but when you can make the quality look like this, what’s not to love?!

🤩 Future Mama 🤩
Hoping to breed my beloved Peppa next year to some top level stallions from , , and . This spectacular mare has done well enough in the 1.30m to earn her sport predicate, she has her PROK predicate, and we were hoping she might earn her Studbook and Ster predicates on the KWPN-NA keuring tour this year. With these new predicates and a Keur eligible, she could become an Elite mare. We’ll try again for next year and hopefully will have some foals to inspect in 2025.

Not to be outdone by her barn mate, Lady showed us what she’s truly capable of when we sent her down the jump chute. This amazing mare continues to impress us with her intellect and willingness. Molly truly lucked out with this once in a lifetime horse.
While we don’t know her breeding, we are starting to embark on a “Who Do You Think You Are?”-style hunt for her breeder and history. We can’t wait to see what we find as she is clearly a quality horse.

At the beginning of the month we decided to make lemonade out of lemons when we lost our KWPN jumper judge for our keuring by building a jump chute and taking gorgeous photos and video. 🇪🇺 Making International Friends 🇪🇺
We have been having a great time this week getting to watch and work with Alexander Kronsteiner. Alexander is here from Germany, where is he a successful dressage trainer who has many years of experience and has even worked with the Spanish Riding School. A huge thank you to Georges Bittar for introducing me and letting me and my clients have some of Alexander’s time to work with our horses. He helped me with a fantastic session on Peppa the other day and today he worked LeGit. The difference from the beginning to the end of the workout was superb and we now have so many new ideas we can use with LeGit. 🇺🇸 Welcome to America 🇺🇸
We are so pleased to welcome T-Maximus W Z to the barn!! Last year Alex had to say goodbye to her heart horse Zeus, and when her heart was ready we started the search for a new horse. After a few months of searching we found the horse who ticked all the boxes in the Christmas .auction. He’s a 2017 Zangersheide gelding by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve out of a Berlin mare and stands at about 17.2 hands. It was a bit of a process to get him here from Holland but he arrived this past Friday and we could not be more impressed by him. He’s everything we hoped for and more. We are so excited for Alex and the amazing journey she’s embarking on with this young horse. Congratulations on your absolutely gorgeous and lovely new horse!!

😎 Show Spam 😎
Nicole and Otis took on the hunter ring last weekend and had a great time. Nicole gets so nervous at horse shows, despite being quite cool and confident at home. So the 2’ hunter classes were the perfect way for her to remember to stay calm and keep riding through her nerves. They started out a bit unsure, but ended the day with a super round in the LEG Up Derby and finished 3rd in that class. We couldn’t be more proud of these two and the progress Nicole is making tackling her show nerves. It’s just like any skill, you have to practice it to get better, and she’s determined to better herself and we’re so pleased to see her improvement.

The girls finally got their gorgeous show photos from the West Palms January last weekend. did a spectacular job and the photos turned out to be just stunning.
Allie took LeGit around for his first ever rated show, and probably his second or third show ever. We had realistic expectations but I have to admit LeGit blew us away with how good he was. He was a complete gentleman in the warm up, and even though was a bit nervous the first day, he came back on day two and jumped around like a pro. We were so proud of him and considering he hasn’t shown much and has only been practicing being around horses for about three weeks, it couldn’t have gone better. These two are still getting to know each other but so far they’re looking so good and I could not be more excited for their future.

🐎 Back in the Saddle 🐎
Chloe and Flamingo were on fire this morning for their jump school. While we were having endless weeks of pouring rain, Chloe was visiting family over winter break. Considering Chloe just got back in the saddle yesterday and is prepping for IEL next Sunday, I would say it’s not going to be a problem. Flamingo has been back in his normal program since the rain stopped, but it’s so good to see these two back together and absolutely killing it.

🦈 Jumping the Shark 🦈
This baby horse has been learning and progressing so fast. He’s made tremendous strides towards becoming a more mature horse and is going to be a proper jumper. I’m so proud of how far these two have come together in such a relatively short period of time. They’re really starting to work as a team and coursing is getting easier every time we practice. Hoping these two will be able to make it into the show ring shortly.

🆕 New Year, New Horse 🆕
We’re so pleased to announce one new addition to the barn! LeGit is a coming 10 year old approved Westfalen stallion by Landkonig out of a Grand Canyon mare. Allie was beyond thrilled at the opportunity to purchase this lovely stallion and so far he has impressed us with his willingness and sweet disposition. 🎇Welcome 2022 🎇
2021 was quite the year. There were many highs, and a few lows. We said goodbye to a few horses, but also welcomed many new faces both horse and human. The amount of knowledge gained was immeasurable. Everyone is on their own journey and achieving things in their own time, and this year felt like everyone grew so much on and off their horses. 2022 is going to continue to build on what 2021 started and we can’t wait to meet the new horses that will be coming and can’t wait to set goals with new riders. 🔥 Coming in Hot 🔥
As per usual, IEL is always an interesting experience. Chloe and Flamingo started the day in the JV jumper division and ended by moving up to Varsity and earning an 11th place. The fence height of 90cm wasn’t exactly what we had signed up to jump, fortunately the office was very understanding and allowed Chloe to move up to the Varsity at 105cm. This was their first official outing at this height, and I have to say I’m so beyond proud of them! We have been schooling this height with ease but it’s another thing to take it into the show ring. Chloe’s mental game has gotten so strong and Flamingo is in tip top shape and has been a gem since we have his show routine locked down. It’s not always easy to roll with the punches, especially on show day, and Chloe was a rockstar today in how she handled everything. Won’t be long before these two are stepping up again. In the meantime, the 1.0m-1.05m classes at Thermal will now be a breeze.

🍾 Cheers to That 🍾
A big congratulations to on the purchase of the super star four year old Maker’s Mark. We are so pleased to see him going to such a great home and love how much he is already loved.
We have had the pleasure of working with Maker’s and Allie when they would come to train at HDHP, and more recently when he came with us to show at Thermal. He is by far one of the best young horses we’ve come across and are excited for both him in his new journey, and Allie as she starts work with her next young prospect.

🌘 Out of the Dark 🌘
With the light disappearing so fast at the end of the day we’re often finishing in the dark. Fortunately we have terrific lights on our arena, making it easy to keep riding into the later hours. Today however, we decided to play with the limited lighting for some cool shots while I finished up and I think they turned out super cool. This awesome clip of us coming out of the dark is thanks to Rose. She had the idea for the shot and we used the one light in the corner to the best advantage.

to the time we threw Alex up on the best baby horse at Thermal and had her play adult ammy test rider. Safe to say she had a blast and looked super for being out of shape. We were all having a fair amount of fun in the back ring playing around with fun ponies and jumps. Can’t wait to head back to the desert with this fun and crazy crew and hopefully we’ll have a few new horses to take with.

🧘 Patience is a Virtue 🧘
This guy has been on the mend for a while but it felt so good to sit in him today. After coming back to work in June, Soto was getting fit and was going better than ever. Around late August he started showing some weakness in his right shoulder and foreleg as he did with his left shoulder after the injury to that leg at Thermal. So we decided it was back to walking as there was absolutely no need to risk his soundness and rush him back into work. We want to bring him back once and do it right, so he can stay sound and happy for the foreseeable future. I’ve been hand walking him daily for 45 minutes to ensure he’s getting out and not destroying the barn. The quality of the trot in hand on his right front is now to the point where he should be able to start some light work. It felt so good to be able to sit on my beloved horse and not have him bouncing off the walls and enjoy his time today. Hopefully after about a week under saddle again we’ll start adding some trot snd see where we’re at. Maybe someday he’ll make it back out to the desert, but right now I’m just so pleased he’s happy and we get to be back to riding.

🐎 Back in the Saddle 🐎 Chloe and Flamingo were on fire this morning for their jump school. While we were having endless weeks of pouring rain, Chloe was visiting family over winter break. Considering Chloe just got back in the saddle yesterday and is prepping for IEL next Sunday, I would say it’s not going to be a problem. 💡 Under the Lights 💡 Since Chloe was out of town for the holiday through the weekend we decided to make today jumps school day. Safe to say the dark did not deter the flying Flamingo. They made short work of the 1.0m-1.05m mini course in preparation for IEL in a few weeks. We’ve been fine tuning some tack and bit changes to help Chloe have a more controlled ride for the first few days of competition and the results have been fantastic so far. 🎓 Clever Girl 🎓 Had to post this fun video @chloebjumping got during our jump school. Gini is quite clever in how she jumps, in that she only puts in the amount of effort required to clear the jump in front of her. Now while it looks great to have a horse with all the scope flying well above the rails, it’s easier on the horse long term, and honestly faster on course to have the horse who always clears the jump and doesn’t spend all day in the air. I think this will make for some spectacularly fast jumps offs in the future. 📐 Playing With Angles 📐 We’ve been playing around with getting fun new styles of shots by placing our phones in all sorts of places. This low and wide angled shot of Chloe and Flamingo turned out so well. These two are getting into shape and had a superb jump lesson. All of the flat work of keeping Flamingo balanced and on his hind end, and building up those muscles, has made him into a jumping machine. 🆕 Making New Friends 🆕 With a whole slew of new lesson kids (and adults) it’s been fun watching everyone improve as they get to know the horses. Otis is still our main lesson guy, but this weekend Zeus got to play lesson horse for a day with Nicole. These two hit it off and it’s so nice to see this big guy feeling his best and back at it. 🚐 Having Visitors Over 🚐 It was a fun day when Allie asked if she could drop in for a lesson. Her young horse Makers is such a good boy and it’s always fun to work with these two. Today was about just having a good experience and a fun ride. Both of them were good as we practiced over a course and Makers was really getting in his element by the end of the ride, and the last two jumps in the video show it. Hopefully work will allow Allie some more time to come and play with us. 🏃 Always Moving Forward 🏃 Kimbra has been working so hard on getting Phantom to be calm when forward when we jump and the improvement these two have made in the last few months has been tremendous. For the ever excited Phantom, keeping his wits about him while he’s jumping can be difficult. 🧓🏼 Golden Oldie 🧓🏼 Age is just a number when you take good care of a horse. Nacho is 19 this year and he is looking fabulous. Much of that is helped with top level supplements, supportive maintenance, and proper riding in a solid program. We’ve spent the last few months getting these two fit and ready for the EAP clinic and all of our hard work has paid off. Nacho is back in absolute tip top shape and jumping a ten every time, and Kathryn is also fighting fit both in and out of the saddle. 🐉 Fire Breathing Dragon 🐉 I set up a few grids to work on keeping a consistent pace to and away from jumps. A number of our horses like to land after a jump and play and zoom away. As much as I love their excitement and want to play, there’s a time and place for that. Today Gini made it known that she didn’t agree with this exercise and had her own ideas. Even though she’d get the two stride on the front side she insisted I was wrong and that it was a one stride on the landing side. 🔝 View From the Top 🔝 I have to say I’m quite pleased with the way I thought to get content at an early hour when no one is there to film. My @gopro is the perfect option! Now you guys can ride along on the horses I work and I can operate everything myself. Today’s exercise started out as figure eights over a pole working on turns of varying sizes after the pole. We graduated to the cross rail to make sure the listening skills traveled and we finished with a great four strides in the three stride line. 🥒 Cool as a Cucumber 🥒 Kimbra has been working toward moving up and the main thing we needed to work on to achieve that was Phantom’s excitement and rushing of jumps. While we don’t mind a horse being forward, there’s a point when approaching a jump that the horse must wait and only increase impulsion if necessary. Phantom has a habit of getting so overly excited that as soon as he sees the jump he’s supposed to do he takes off running for it. We’ve been working on getting him to listen and wait through cavaletti exercises and a few alterations to the bridle and voila! This line shows how calmly he can jump some taller jumps while maintaining a good level of impulsion while also still having listening skills. 🔥 On Fire 🔥 Chloe and Flamingo were on fire today! Fortunately they were able to most beat the heat and put in two spectacular rounds. They earned a 3rd in their 80cm round (only bested by Amelie Bittar) and an unfortunate rail landed them 7th in an otherwise perfect round in their 85cm class. We were all so happy to see these two having such a fun time and getting back into the groove of showing. Hopefully she’ll be able to make it back for one more show before her summer holiday is over. ⬆️ Looking Up ⬆️ Had fun playing with my phone camera during lessons yesterday. Mondays have become quite the lesson day. Madi rides Otis and they always have a fun time jumping around. Rachel brings in her adorable mare Heiress who is learning to jump, and Kimbra had a spectacular lesson on Phantom. Sadly I didn’t get any video of Kimbra but they finally got to try the clover leaf and once they got in the groove they totally rocked it. It’s nice to be able to get some serious cavaletti work done to help make the course work and jumping the easy part. 🍀 Four Leaf Clover 🍀 We’re hard at work preparing Kathryn for the USHJA’s EAP clinic in August. This week’s challenge has been the clover leaf exercise. This is a favorite exercise of mine because it quickly points out weaknesses as well as strengths. Every one of the horses can do this and get something different out of it. It is a great way to practice straightness, balance, and rhythm. Nacho and Kathryn made quick work of it, although don’t let their gorgeous ride fool you. 🫔 One Hot Tamale 🫔 Kathryn has been getting back into jumping some taller jumps lately in preparation for her EAP clinic in August. Today’s aim was to get around a shorter course to start to build the fitness level and stamina it takes to maintain the level of riding necessary to get around a full ten plus jump course at 1.0m and up. Fortunately Nacho was the best boy, and even though he hasn’t jumped much lately he was so excited and tried his little heart out. Kathryn did an excellent job piloting him around the course, taking all the flat pole work we’ve been doing and executed this course almost perfectly. It’s easy to forget that Nacho can be a lot to handle around the jumps as he’s so polished and normally a touch lazy on the flat. Once he starts jumping though, he wakes right up and it was great for Kathryn to practice on a horse with some go around a course. 🌴 California Girl 🌴 Gini and I have been working hard on building a relationship. She is a strong independent woman who knows what she wants, but often around the fences she just takes over. While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I’ve been trying to convince her it’s a team effort and I’m able to do more than hold on and steer. Today we really became a team and she trusted that I’d let her do her job, if she let help her by letting me do mine. This line, while not perfect, was an amazing feeling of the two of us using our skill sets and knowledge to really become a team. She stayed just quiet enough in front of the line and then I allowed her to move up to the first jump, while she got forward in the line she still listened and we agreed on a distance going out.
