Time for a puppy post . Remember to start off with more confinement and let the puppy earn more freedom as they learn the ropes . Earned things also have more value.

Rescued from a neglected situation and being ‘given away’ Clayton had zero training . There’s many different approaches trainers recommend especially with a large rambunctious dog . I feel we have a relationship with our dogs that needs to forged through trust guidance and being their teacher.
It’s not just the end result it’s also the journey and short cuts through punitive compliance often doesn’t work long term and undermines the journey.

Eye contact is key to getting a dialed in dog . If you wait for that look and then reward with giving them what they want like to eat, move through a threshold , go sniff , greet someone etc then they’ll start to defer to you .
Your dog will think ‘Calm eye contact gets me what I want ‘

Which way the wind blowing ?
A play pen is a great way to give your new puppy an area to play, relax and observe . Place it in the area you want the dog bed to be located in the living room so when you remove the pen the bed stays .

A hound bull ? Remember dogs work off associations , you, other dogs , couch , crate , strangers etc so it’s our jobs to create the association we want . It’s all an education . The more we lead and guide the easier life becomes for our dogs .

It’s sad how predictable the new ‘popular dog’ cycles through ending up in shelters and rescues . Here’s the Frenchie , and yes think he’s doing some yoga if you swipe .
The next is the Belgian Malinois .
Please research the dog you are interested in and contact rescue groups .

Our relationship with our dogs needs to be more transactional , especially at the beginning . Educate them like a new employee and then they get their bonus and raise but it’s earned .

If you had a new job wouldn’t you expect to be shown what to do ? then in time you’ll get a promotion with more responsibilities. To set dogs up for success they need guidance and leadership . Be a good boss and you’ll have a good employee.

Yes another rescue pure bred . Wish we could have a moratorium on breeding for a few years .
Our job is to guide and educate new dogs coming into our house , not indulge and confuse them .
