I ❤️ my Shelter Bunny!!! Lilac the big and beautiful REW #rabbit was rescued by @lennonthebunny from an illegal pet store in Santee Alley (where she was discounted for $20 because she was “too big”😡)... Confiscated by @laanimalservices and taken to @northcentralshelter for several months, where she barely fit in her tiny cage...😢 Transferred @bunnies_of_san_pedro where she was a skittish Mess...!! And finally adopted by me. A sympathy adoption!😍 We just left her alone and she kept her distance for a FULL YEAR - running from us every time we tried to approach her. Until finally my 7 year old learned the trick: singing her the soundtrack of Frozen 2!✨ These days, Lilac lives for head pets, and hoppily greets every visitor at the door.☺️ And I know as a mom, you’re not supposed to play favorites, but let’s be honest- she’s our favorite bunny ever.🐇 Best advice for adopting a bunny: Pick the crankiest, shyest, funkiest, been-there-the-longest rabbit at the shelter... Then give em the space, time and love they need to rehab. Mopsy and Flopsy enjoyed the pets of little hands all day yesterday, yet still went back to the shelter once the event was over😓Their third adoption event this season! :/ Just the sweetest little pair of roly poly bunnies you ever did meet, they would be a great choice for a family with children. Kissy kissy!💋 After 1 week in my living room, Bubbles and Slim are bonded and back home again!🙌 Little Bubs has spent her first 6 years as a solo ladybun, but when her mom reached out to me to find her a #husbun I jumped at the chance to save Slim- a shy #REW (Ruby-eyed white) #bunny who had been sitting at the shelter @small_animals_westla for way too long.😞 At first Bubbles wasn’t so sure, and Silm was a little too excited. :/ So we took it slow in side-by-side pens in neutral territory, and then 1 week later... Nemo has a tumor on his testicle which needs more evaluation. Dory loves him. They came in together. This was the first time they were allowed to be together given that Nemo is not neutered. They were highly monitored during their reunion. Please share to get them to a rescue that can help Nemo (REW) & Dory with black make up & blue eyes together. They really love each other. Times like this we all should reflect on how luck we are. We are not sure completely on what the tumor is exactly but he definitely is a sweet, loving boy. He is happy with attention and love. Dory is a firecracker but a stunning girl. Let’s keep sharing them to get them to a good Sam that will love them forever & help them be the best, healthiest they can be or a rescue that can help evaluate the tumor correctly. Uh-oh... we are so sad to read this post and hear that Cozy is having such a hard time.😢 Shelter Stress is REAL and makes many wonderful animals seem “unadoptable”... but it’s amazing how quickly their personalities turn around one in a safe, loving home, with space to roam and time to heal.🏡 Do you have a heart for rescue and rehabilitation? When she first got to the shelter she bonded right away with people like @adoptrabbits and @bunnies_of_north_central. Who can forget the legendary video of @bunnies_of_north_central giving her a massage? First forward to now. She has been slowly declining in the shelter. I can only go so often to get her out of the cage. She is cage reactive and very scared. She needs someone to give her love and a bunny friend. She gets so stressed out in her cage that it's heartbreaking. This once sweet chunky love is now a mess. She is fine outside her cage in the playpen but now in her cage she is scared. She lunges and tries to bite. She is nervous when you clean her cage. She is similar to Yoko. She needs a hero. Cotton and Yoko found their heroes, now Cozy needs one. She is a chunky beautiful goofball normally. Last weekend she was difficult and this last weekend she is slowly getting better. She had a good meet and greet with Jesse, our bunny heartthrob. She liked him after she bossed him around and let him clean her. So there is potential for her. She is a beautiful chunky girl who is a sweetie outside her cage but no one sees that if her attitude doesn't change inside her cage. It was love at first sight for me. Basil (I named him) was the shelter favorite cause he’s such a snuggler and wanted attention from everyone. We volunteers advocated extra for him but couldn’t find a home because most of adopters didn’t want an albino or they didn’t hv a suitable set up... I laid in bed wide awake one night and turned to my husband and said “I’m bringing Basil home tomorrow”. He was so excited. We already hv 2 buns that are bonded. I figured we would foster him and work with @larabbitfoundation to find him a home. Well...Steve (my husband) and Basil fell madly in love and we just couldn’t part with him. So now he’s our baby! He wants to be pet and will try to get up into your personal space to get attention. It is quite sweet. He is a good guy and whoever gets him is going to be lucky. I promise you he won’t stop thanking you and loving you everyday. He is a big guy but an absolute love. Even on your darkest day he will be there to say thank you for loving me.
