LOVING, GOOFY GENTLE GIANT ON MEDICAL ALERT!

HERCULES - 💖
1 yr. old, 103 lb. Male / Blue Brindle Cane Corso

Meet Hercules! This big teddy bear came in as a “stray” on 12/17/24, and he’s been an absolute joy to be around since the day he arrived.

This sweet, gentle giant craves human connection and happily stays close for head rubs and body pets. He has nice leash manners and takes his treats so gently. His occasional excited jumps are just his way of showing how much he cares, but he’s quite easy to correct. Considering how smart & eager-to-please this boy is, we have no doubt he’ll be a breeze to train. 🐕

Always up for fun, Hercules is still learning fetch – and he’s so adorable to watch when he romps around the yard like a big puppy! He also had a blast playing with some other dogs off-leash and was very social and friendly. (Sorry, but we don’t know how he is with small dogs or cats at this time.)

🔶 Sadly, Hercules is on URGENT MEDICAL ALERT for “Bilateral pr*****ed third eyelids glands” – aka cherry eye. This can be treated in several ways, including surgery.

He doesn’t have an exit date yet, but this can change at any time.

Please tag, share & pledge, and help this extraordinary, big-hearted boy get adopted or rescued ASAP! He’s such a good boy & deserves a loving home. 🙏

*** 1/12 UPDATE: RESCUED! If we find out who pulled Kaya, we'll update here! ***

♥️🐾 BEAUTIFUL, SWEET & WELL-TRAINED KAYA NEEDS A HOME!

KAYA - 3 yr. old, 67 lb. Female

Kaya is a special girl who was surrendered in Aug. 2024, because her owners just had new baby said they couldn’t care for her anymore.

However, they had nothing but wonderful things to share about her on her owner intake form:

🐾 Friendly with all people, including strangers.
🐾 Gentle with children.
🐾 Good with other dogs (she had been around dogs and chickens).
🐾 Loves to play.
🐾 Knows basic commands.
🐾 Housebroken.

Everyone who handles Kaya at the shelter rave about a great dog she is. She's friendly, affectionate, sweet and very easy to handle. She's got great leash manners and is very engaged and eager to please. She's truly just a joy to be around!

We think the main reason Kaya may be getting overlooked is that she's excited and barks in her kennel. So, potential adopters have no idea what an easygoing girl she really is!

If you would like to meet Kaya, please stop by the shelter during adoption hours (Tuesday through Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 am - 5:00 pm).

you to Janni Kinsler for this

*** 1/12 UPDATE: Moony was RESCUED! 💕 If/when we find out who pulled him, we will update his post here! ***

🆘 URGENT! SWEET, DOG-FRIENDLY GSD IS ON MEDICAL ALERT FOR OLD INJURY

🚨MUST EXIT BY 4 pm ON 1/17‼️

MOONY – 4 yr. old, 79 lb. Neutered Male 🐕

Moony is an irresistibly sweet, loving boy who came in as a ‘stray’ on 12/27/24. He was found with two other dogs – one who got hit by a car & passed & a Chihuahua, who’s been adopted.

Since Moony arrived, he’s been limping on his hind leg. X-rays were done, and his medical notes indicate he has a fracture due to an old injury.

Though he’s still mobile and eager to go on walks, poor Moony has been housed in a small kennel OUT OF PUBLIC VIEW for his entire stay. He’s also only allowed short outings. 😥

Despite Moony’s stressful, uncomfortable surroundings, this gentle soul has remained friendly, calm, obedient, and very affectionate! He’s easy to leash, takes treats gently, and is always so grateful for pets and attention.🥰

Moony is relaxed passing kennels and meeting dogs (big & small) through crates & fences. He also met a Husky off-leash, and he was very social and respectful. 🐶

We’re so sad to share that MOONY IS ON ALERT for his old injury. HIS EXIT DEADLINE IS 4 PM, JAN. 17.

🔶MEDICAL NOTES:

-Fractured hip on right side. Given fracture is likely an old injury, further rest is not expected to result in healing. If not, patient will require hip replacement or FHO surgery to address chronic pain.
-Moderate dental calculus

PLEASE SHARE, TAG & PLEDGE. 🙏 It’s heartbreaking that Moony’s been kept out or public view, so he desperately needs help getting seen & saved. He has such a beautiful temperament & personality & deserves a loving family…not euthanasia.

PS. If you’re interested in being a long-term foster for Moony through a rescue, please DM us!

🆕 1/12 UPDATE: Benji has been RESCUED by ! 🎉
Please honor your pledges to help cover his training & help him get ready for his forever home. 🙏

💚 Venmo: -House

*** 1/10 UPDATE: Benji’s exit date has been extended to 1/17. He’s available for adoption or rescue (The shelter is not allowing him to be fostered through them. )

🚨🚨 🚨 URGENT– BENJI MUST EXIT BY FRI 1/10 DUE TO KENNEL STRESS‼️ 🚨🚨 🚨

💙 BENJI - 6 yr. old, 57 lb. Neutered Male

Benji’s life was turned upside down on 12/10/24, the day his family surrendered him because they were moving.

Due to lack of space, this brindle boy was kenneled out of public view for several weeks. During this time, he caught an upper respiratory infection and wasn’t allowed any outings to prevent other pups from getting sick. Sadly, the isolation & stress from being in a strange place apparently caused Benji to dig/paw inside his kennel so much so that he wore down his nail quicks (essentially, his cuticles which contain blood vessels) and paw pads.

Thankfully, he was prescribed meds which helped him relax. He was also finally moved to a bigger outdoor kennel several days ago and has been getting yard time & walks. This combo seems to have helped, because Benji’s been much happier in his kennel & his paws have healed.

Even though he’s coping better, he’s still been given an EXIT DATE because he’s “not a good candidate to stay in the shelter.”

Benji’s been taken out by numerous volunteers, and we’ve all found him to be very friendly, playful, and easy to handle. He can be independent at first, but once he warms up, his loving, affectionate side comes out and he leans in for lots of pets. He knows sit & down, takes treats very gently, and has excellent leash manners.

Benji has been calm around other dogs on leash. He was also in playgroup & described as rough & rowdy, selective, good play but mild stimulus control issues (muzzle work was recommended). He’ll do best as the only pet in the home OR kept separated until he gets more socialization. (According to owners, he’s not good with cats.)

PLEASE SHARE, TAG & PLEDGE & help Benji get seen. 🙏 We really hate the idea of this beautiful, healthy boy’s life getting cut so tragically short through no fault of his own.

*** RESCUED! ***

💔 URGENT! SWEET GSD SHIVA ON MEDICAL ALERT‼️

NEEDS ADOPTION OR RESCUE BY JAN. 10!

SHIVA 💕
7 yr. old, 58.4 lb. Spayed Female

Shiva is a very pretty, affectionate German Shepherd who was sadly surrendered on 11/14/24 because her family said they could no longer care for her. 😢

She lost the only home she’s ever known, so she was understandably nervous and skittish when she first arrived. And while she can still be a bit shy at first, she warms up quickly and shows what a loving, smart, well-behaved and playful girl she really is! 🥰

According to the owner intake form, Shiva was respectful & gentle with children in the home (ages 3 through 7). This smart girl knows several commands including sit, shake and down; and she takes treats gently from your hand. She also likes to run after balls, but she’s not obsessive and equally enjoys spending her time chilling around people & soaking up attention & pets.

Shiva has been in several playgroups with other big dogs and described as social and occasional hall monitor. She’s playful at times but also enjoys her personal space. (Sorry, but we don’t know how she is with small dogs or cats at this time.)

When Shiva arrived, she was healthy and fit, but shelter life has taken a toll on her. Her stress has caused her to lose weight & develop a hot spot on her hip that’s become infected. (A hot spot is commonly caused by excessive licking or scratching due to stress or boredom and can be treated.)

🔶 SHIVA HAS BEEN PUT ON URGENT MEDICAL ALERT FOR:

- Skin lesion(s) on right hip & front elbow, bleeding, painful
- Hind limb issues despite current treatment with NSAIDs - weak/ ataxic, muscle loss, signs of pain with attempts to extend both hips

Shiva needs to be adopted or rescued by 1/10! That's not a lot of time, so PLEASE share, tag & pledge! She’s truly a wonderful family dog who deserves to be back in a loving home ASAP. 🙏

🆕 1/3 UPDATE: Jacob has been rescued by ! 🎉 He left today and was taken straight to their vet. Please honor your pledges to help cover his medical care. Thank you! 🙏

🆘 URGENT! SWEET, SHY CHIHUAHUA MUST EXIT BY 1/6‼️

JACOB - 3 yrs. old, 13 lb. Male

Young Jacob’s world was turned upside down on 12/16/24, when he was surrendered by his family.

According to his owner intake form, this precious boy is 3 yrs. old and was given to them as a gift when he was a puppy. They also checked off that he’s gentle and friendly with children & other dogs.

The owners also surrendered a second dog, who’s since been adopted. (The reason they gave for giving up that dog was because they had “too many.” For Jacob, they wrote he’s “vocal outside.”) Sadly, they didn’t elaborate or even take the time to fill out the 2nd page of the questionnaire, so that’s about all we know about this sweet boy.

Since Jacob arrived, he’s been living in a small grooming cage and seems overwhelmed by his new stressful environment. He’s been shy and timid in his kennel, so volunteers have been carrying him out to the yard or for walks. Once he’s outside, this sensitive soul relaxes a bit more and enjoys stretching his legs & getting fresh air. When Jacob spent time in the yard with other small dogs, he didn’t want to engage but peacefully shared the space.

🚨JACOB’S BEEN MEDICALLY ALERTED FOR:

1. Suspected pancreatitis
2. Acute multiple episodes of vomiting
3. Dehydration - Moderate
4. Moderate abdominal discomfort
5. Grade III/VI heart murmur (r/o physiologic vs. pathologic (primary vs. secondary cardiac disease)

🔶JACOB NEEDS TO BE ADOPTED OR RESCUED BY 1/6! Please share, tag & pledge & help him get seen & saved in time!

🆕 Captain is being cared for by a private vet via the ‘Good Sam’ program. 🙏 The shelter can't tell us which rescue is responsible for helping him, but we're hoping once he officially becomes available on 1/4, they may post about him on social media, and we can update his post here.

🚨 URGENT – GOOD SAM NEEDED FOR INJURED BEAGLE HIT BY CAR! 💔

NEEDS HELP FROM NEW HOPE RESCUE PARTNER ASAP‼️

CAPTAIN - 🐾
8 yr. old, 18 lb. Beagle / Neutered Male

This is so heartbreaking! Captain was brought to the shelter on 12/24 with injuries that left him unable to walk or stand after getting hit by a car. (12/27 UPDATE: Captain is now standing and walking very slowly with a limp.)

He has a microchip, but apparently, the shelter hasn’t been able to get in touch with his owner yet. (He’ll be available for adoption or rescue on Jan. 4.)

In the meantime, the shelter is providing pain medication, but Captain desperately needs to see a private vet for proper medical care! He’s eligible to see one through the “Good Sam” program if he’s taken by a New Hope Rescue partner.

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, Captain bit the person who picked him up. As a result, he’s in quarantine, so we don’t have access to get video of him at this time. But it’s clear he’s very scared & uncomfortable.

PLEASE share, tag & pledge. This poor baby is in pain & needs help ASAP. 🙏

🔶 MEDICAL NOTES:

- Orthopedic problems: noted trauma to both tarsus mild bleeding, unable to walk or stand, no obvious limb fracture / poss pelvic fracture

- Wounds: small open wounds around both tarsus
