Not a lot going on here at the farm
It’s quiet. I have seen some panic in people that have not pruned yet. Most didn’t realize how fast the dormant season is passing by.
Luckily roses are very forgiving and they will be fine whether you do every detail during dormant season or not.
I planted some sweet peas and repurposed some long rose canes from my sugar moon roses and made a trellis so that the sweet peas can crawl up. I was worried that the canes may start to propagate but so far they have not.
During the wind and fire storm 5 pieces of plywood flew out of the lumber company next door to me and into my place. The force of the wind was unreal. One of the pieces hit a shed and it folded in half and was lifted off the foundation.
I have not decided what to do with it. That shed is really old and I can’t lock it so I’m not sure what to do. My jasmine has grown all over it over the years.

Project 52 week 4
4/52
Early mornings are cold here. We show up prepared. As the day wears on and the sun pours over us we start removing coats and hats. This morning I unfortunately found a long time wildlife resident dead in the back. RIP He made his home in the schefflera trees. We buried him and peanut joined the ceremony. I planted some barefoot roses I purchased from
I am excited to have them and look forward to the roses
Pruning is done and it’s all about cleanup now. The roses will get a good rest.
How is everyone’s pruning going ? Have you started ? Comment ⬇️

Week 4 of Project 52 . Spending lots of time this week on my climbers. I want to do some pe***ng this season. Pe***ng is a very creative process that encourages more blooms on climbing roses . I haven’t done pe***ng in quite a few years. Your rose canes should be flexible enough to loop them onto themselves or pin them to the ground with inexpensive hardware. My climbing roses take so much time to winterize. I remove all the leaves then I start looking for damaged wood. My climbers are old and they are huge. I suggest protective goggles when working on climbers. The branches can boomerang and get you in the face. Here in the Los Angeles area will be welcoming some much needed rain this weekend and I am so thrilled about it. Thanks for reading and joining me in the field. comments or questions about pe***ng or roses in general share in comments ⬇️

Project 52 3/52

Week 3 of Project 52
As pruning continues much faster than I had anticipated, I am taking things slowly. It is enough for me to just go from bush to bush and listen to the birds that have made their home in Mermaid rose. The simplicity of just being in the moment suits me for today. I see the pruned bushes and at the same time it is hard to see them I prune hard. Looking at them they seem to be nothing and I know in just two months these bushes will come back and be covered in red and green leaves that lead to buds. For today it is okay for me to not have any expectations other than just being outside and tending to my farm. The quiet feels necessary as the year has started heavy around here. The garden is my solace and envelopes me and protects me. Wishing all a quiet and comforting weekend
Find your space, it’s important.

Project 52. 2/52
This is the second week of Project 52 and I had no idea where Los Angeles would be when I started this. This post will not be about my farm. It is about what can I do to help. None of us in this city are okay. I am a fortunate one. I am still standing. I have a home. My family is okay. Too many are not these are photos I took on Thursday. Jan 9 2025. .

Let’s get to it ……………Many of you know I have been in the title insurance business for many years at the same time operating my farm. With that said if you have lost your home and need a copy of your grant deed to prove ownership or what ever else please DM me. I will get it for you. If you need your Assessors parcel number, let me know. If you need to see what the land assessment is verses the improvements let me know. I will help you and walk you through it. #💔 #😢

PROJECT 52 1/52
January is for pruning and that starts now. I will definitely go hard on the pruning this year. Our temps have been so mild and I really need to signal to them to rest. I am also doing an assessment of what else needs done over the next two and half months too.
I have lots of trash from the tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima ) that has become invasive here. I refer to it as the tree of hell. I have lots of the discarded trees and roots that were pulled over the summer laying along the west fence and all that needs to find its way out of here. I have noticed the Bermuda grass trying to emerge, ugh.
The winter shelters I made for the feral colony with the help of William and Margarito are doing well. And the members of the colony are also doing well. I have a total of 5 living around the farm

2025 will mark 30 seasons of Rose Lane Farms. I started this farm in 1995 with only a small portion of roses that I collected from Weeks Roses and a few other spots I still have lots of those original roses still thriving in the fields all these years later . I am rolling out Project 52 for my 30 year anniversary. It will be photos and comments every week about what it’s like to grow garden roses and how it progresses each week throughout the year. I’m inviting all for this journey and there will be some weeks that will be difficult and some weeks that are bland. Doing this is not all fluff and fragrance every week. It takes grit and ambition and accepting nature as it comes. WELCOME TO PROJECT 52

Ordering for the 2024 garden rose season is open. To order. Please email me or text me with the subject line having the date of pick up. I need your mood board. I like to have a mood board instead of you ordering by variety, but I do like to have a wishlist from you too. Last minute orders are okay with me. I don’t want you to stress and will always be helpful. For whips. I price on sight and don’t cut until you say you want it. My whips are almost ready, next week ! I look forward to seeing my favorites this season. I have missed you so much. XO Lynne

Woke up this morning to heavy fog and darkness outside and then settled into the quiet of un rushed time I had. All of this inspired me as I read from a favorite book. My thoughts quickly turned to a project I have planned. I always work with fresh cut garden roses but this project has me on dried pressed roses. I will be sharing soon and hope you can join me Shown here is a pressed Mermaid Rose. She is a single Petal rose and I thought pressing it would be easier because you can lay her flat Find your purpose. Find quiet. Find nature. This is healing friends .
