Happy Thanksgiving from your PAW Rehab family! Here are some tips from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) for a safe Thanksgiving with your beloved pets:

🍁 Keep the feast on the table! Many thanksgiving foods are toxic or can cause pancreatitis in pets. Things that are delicious for us, like onions, turkey skin, raisins/grapes, or desserts with chocolate or sweeteners, could be life-threatening for dogs and cats. If you want to share a Thanksgiving treat with your pet, make or buy a treat that is made just for them.

🍁 Be careful with decorative plants. Some flowers and festive plants can be toxic to pets. These include amaryllis, baby’s breath, sweet William, some ferns, hydrangeas, and more. The ASPCA has lists of plants that are toxic to dogs and cats, but the safest route is simply to keep your pet away from all plants and table decorations.

🍁 If you believe your pet has been poisoned or has eaten something they shouldn’t have, immediately call your veterinarian or local veterinary emergency clinic. Signs that something might be wrong with your pet include sudden behavior changes, depression, discomfort or pain, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet shows any of these signs. You also can call the ASPCA Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661); note that a fee may apply.

If your pet has any new issue or emergency over the holiday weekend, please reach out to your primary veterinarian or your closest veterinary emergency clinic.

Have a happy and safe holiday! 🦃

Hey there Delilah!

Delilah is a 12 year old golden retriever who has discomfort in her elbows and hips, due to degenerative joint disease and hip dysplasia. She joined our PAW Rehab family in September to help with pain relief and to improve her mobility. One of the ways the doctor recommended to help her is known as “shockwave therapy”, more specifically known as Extra-Corporeal Shockwave Therapy (ECSWT).

ECSWT is a non-invasive modality which uses pulses of focused sound waves that pe*****te into the tissue. This helps to increase blood flow to the area and provide pain relief. The beneficial effects after a few treatments can have a potential long lasting duration of several weeks to months.

Delilah just finished her 6th shockwave session this week. We have gotten reports from her owners that she is doing better at home, having an easier time getting in and out of the car and using stairs. We are so glad to see her improving, especially this week, which she celebrated both her 12th birthday and her anniversary of 8 years since she was adopted by her family! 🎉

Dr. Bak and Giovanni are best friends! 🥰

Gio is a handsome pitbull terrier who has been a patient of PAW Rehab since July of 2017. Gio has arthritis in his elbows and knees, and has ruptured his cranial cruciate ligaments (CCLs) in both of his knees. These issues are being conservatively managed with in-clinic therapies, including laser acupuncture, pictured here!

Laser acupuncture is a modified form of traditional acupuncture, both of which are methods of pain relief. Acupuncture is an effective tool for the management of chronic disease and has also been known to have a calming effect. Laser acupuncture uses infrared light to help aid in needle-less stimulation. Both versions of acupuncture are performed by a veterinarian, and is used to reduce inflammation, increase circulation and can help stimulate the nervous system.

We are so glad knowing we can continue to help Gio feel more comfortable, and we know Dr. Bak is always happy to see him!

What is National Veterinary Technician Week — and more importantly, why do we celebrate it?

The 3rd week of October has been set aside as National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) to celebrate, recognize, and promote the valuable contributions Credentialed Veterinary Technicians make to the veterinary profession and to society.

This year, we celebrate 30 years of NVTW! We are lucky to have two of the best RVT’s we could ask for: Rhianna and Colleen. The dedication and passion they show here at PAW Rehab makes such a difference in our patient care — join us in thanking them for their amazing work! 👏🏼

Join us in congratulating Doyle! 🏆

Doyle is a retired agility and search & rescue dog, who now competes in scent-work. He came to us in April of this year with back pain and joint discomfort. We have had the pleasure of seeing him weekly since then, and are so impressed with how far he has come! His spinal comfort and range of motion have improved, and he just recently won his final NACSW trial with judge's pronouncements. His smile always brightens our days here and we can't wait to see him continue to thrive!

Photo: Doyle with NACSW Certifying Official Chris Busch and NACSW CO/Judge Laura Busch in Meeker, Colorado winning High in Trial with three 1st place searches, three Judge's Pronounced, and his Elite Champion title.

What is Hydrotherapy?💧
Hydrotherapy at PAW Rehab utilizes an underwater treadmill to allow for low-impact exercise that is less stressful on pets’ joints and can be soothing. This type of therapy can aid in recovery post-injury, helping with strength and balance.

Featuring this week’s superstar: Atticus!
Atticus became paralyzed in his hind limbs in July of this year and shortly after had a left hemilaminectomy, a surgery commonly performed to correct slipped or herniated discs in the spine. We had the pleasure of meeting him in August, and he started hydrotherapy early September. This video shows Atticus’ first hydrotherapy session a few weeks ago, where our assistant April was helping range his limbs. He has already made progress since then — wanting to stand more at home, and beginning to try to posture again to go potty. We are so proud of the improvements we have seen in him already!

No love like puppy love 🐶 Say hi to Bowie!

Bowie is a sweet 10 month old who is just the best boy. When Bowie was adopted, he would not put full weight on his left hind leg. It was determined he needed an FHO surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy). After his surgery, Bowie came to us for post-op rehabilitation. He presented with a hunched back, known as thoracolumbar kyphosis, and was toe touching to non weight-bearing on his left hind leg.

He is almost through his first rehab program, and is making great strides! He comes to us twice weekly for manual therapies with Dr. Little, as well as rehabilitation sessions including massage, therapeutic exercises, and laser therapy. He is the sweetest boy and loves to give thank you kisses to the assistants during his laser!

Join us in congratulating Uschi! 🎉🎉

Uschi was seen for her initial consult with Dr.Little and Katelyn in February of 2023.

She was seen for rehabilaition therapy to help her gain strength post her TPLO surgery. In the process of healing she also chipped her patella.

She was coming in twice weekly for rehabilaition, laser, and acupuncture sessions as well as Adequan injections. At the start of her rehab she was receiving shockwave therapy treatments to help with her trigger-points.

As she progressed, her time here became less and less.

Most recently Katelyn has been working with Uschi in the underwater treadmill, and working on balancing on unstable surfaces to gain strength back in her left hind leg.

At her most recent recheck Dr.Little moved Uschi's tassel over, and gave her a gold star for her improvement.

Uschi's mom is still going to have her come in for monthly sessions to help maintain her strength she built up in the past few months here at PAW.

We will all miss seeing her sweet face coming in so frequently.

Join us in giving Uschi well wishes as she finishes her program! ❤️ 🐾

*Stay toned to hear about her Success Story to be added to our website!*

Meet Boris! 🐾

Today was his second Rehab session with us!

He is very happy to be here, but he got a little overwhelmed with excitement, and decided he needed a blankie for comfort.

He choose this one for himself, and kept it near by to get through his session.

It was for sure the cutest thing we saw all day. ❤️
