L.A. Animal Services SMART SMART is Los Angeles Animal Services' Elite Team of Animal Rescuers.

Two nights ago, LA Animal Services SMART received a call from the Department of Sanitation for two dogs trapped 20 feet down in an underground sewer run-off. SMART members Navarrete, Dinh and Luna arrived and with the assistance of a confined space tripod (manned by the Sanitation crew) a rescuer was lowered into the sewer, located in the city of Wilmington, and a CMC: Rescue, Safety, Access K9 harness was used to extract one very skinny dog out safely. The dog was taken to the LA Animal Services Harbor center for medical evaluation and is up for adoption. Unfortunately the second dog was deceased.

She’s now looking for a home. Contact the Chesterfield square animal shelter for info. Her animal ID is A2045432

LA Animal Services SMART Members Carlos Villa, Tyger Rodriguez, David Rivera, and SMART Team Leads Nav & Dihn responded to a cat that fell over 20 feet into an elevator shaft. Luckily no injuries were sustained and the cat had a microchip. “Barry” is now waiting to be picked up by his owner at the shelter

LA Animal Services SMART Members David Rivera, Jose Navarro, and SMART Team Lead Nav were called for a cat named Vivus that needed to go to the vet but it was stuck under a building. We used different methods and were finally able to get him out so the owner could take him to the vet. Vivus is now recovering!

LA Animal Services SMART Members David Rivera, Jose Navarro, and SMART Team Lead Nav responded to a stray cat stuck in a tree for a couple days. No injuries were found on the cat. We were able to safely capture and release it!

LA Animal Services SMART Registered Veterinary Technician Ramon Garcia and SMART members Dinh, Allyson Adriano, Vanessa Flores, Jose Navarro and Team Lead’s Nav and Poblano helped a exit the warehouse it was stuck in for a couple days. She was active and the male could be heard calling right outside one of the doors so there may be a nest in the area.
