We have had an increase in the amount of dogs coming in to see us that are positive for deadly parvovirus (parvo). The best prevention is for a puppy to start their vaccines as early as possible and finish their series.

Generally, we like to start puppy shots at 6-8 weeks old and to give a vaccine for 3-4 viruses including Parvo. We repeat the vaccine every 3-4 weeks for several more visits after that.

We recommend your puppy be seen by the vet as soon as you adopt them regardless if they have started their vaccines or not. We will set up what we believe is the best schedule for your puppy based on its age, breed, and lifestyle.

Canine parvovirus (parvo) outbreaks have been detected in some U.S. regions. See your veterinarian immediately if your dog exhibits any signs of parvo, such as diarrhea or vomiting. The faster parvovirus is recognized and treatment is started, the better chance a dog has of surviving the disease.
