Last Thursday Toastmaster theme by Gordon was “Happiness” and the meeting made everybody smile.
Our first speech was by Chris and he discussed the importance of mentoring and being mentored. Ironically, his evaluator was Bud and Bud is his club mentor. Chris did a fine job explaining the difference between the two and the importance of helping others when it’s your turn to mentor.
Our second speech was by May. She shared with us a social speech and it happened to be about giving a eulogy for her uncle. A eulogy can often be a time for sadness but May brought up times her uncle made her laugh. Everyone in the audience could relate to the joy that uncle brought to life and that made everyone happy. Great job May. Anastasia was May’s evaluator.
Our Table Topics by David S. carried on with the same theme and it was an overall great meeting. We had one repeat guest, her name is Margot and she did well during Table Topics.

Our Toastmasters meeting on 01/23 Thursday, themed “Changes,” was a great success!

We enjoyed two inspiring speeches: Jayne Schurick shared tips on using the TMOD template, and Bud Everts demonstrated effective use of AI to assist your presentation skills. Table Topics sparked lively participation, as members and guests shared personal stories and perspectives on change.

Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed! See you on 01/30 this Thursday for more learning and fun. 🎤✨

The theme for today is "What Are You Celebrating?"
It’s the fall season, harvest season, and many people’s favorite time of the year as we approach the holiday season. So, today's theme is “What Are You Celebrating?”

We have two prepared speakers today.
Chris Weilert’s speech was titled “The Gift of Aging.” The project was Body Language from the Presentation Mastery path, Level 2. Chris shared stories about his mother and brother, who both passed away in the same year. We could deeply feel his sense of loss through his speech. He also reflected on the valuable lessons he learned about the gift of aging.

David Singer’s speech was titled “All Decked Out.” His project was Evaluation and Feedback from the Innovative Planning path, Level 2. David shared the process of replacing and fixing a deck. Through photos and descriptions, we learned about the entire project.

The Table Topics session was led by May, with questions focused on how to celebrate, who you would like to celebrate with, and your most memorable celebrations. Qifeng’s Halloween celebration story was the winner!

Hybrid meetings are always challenging due to the technical setup. Although the meeting started 2 minutes late due to an unstable internet connection, it went smoothly overall and even finished early.

🌟 Inspiring Speakers - A Recap of Today's Meeting 🌟

Today’s meeting was all about finding inspiration in those around us! The word of the day is "uplifting"! We had two amazing prepared speeches:

🗣️ Jayne shared heartwarming stories about the new member of her chicken family...a cat named Layne! Her speech was made even more memorable with photos of her chickens and Layne, reminding us that inspiration can come from the animals in our lives.

🗣️ Lixia took us on a journey through her inspiring experience of becoming a board member of a non-profit organization. Her story was a powerful reminder of how leadership and perseverance can make a big impact.

Our Table Topics session, led by David, was filled with engaging personal stories about moments in life that have inspired each of us. It was truly a highlight to hear such a range of experiences!

Sonya led the evaluation session with valuable feedback for both speakers. Bud and Eleanor provided thoughtful and encouraging evaluations, helping our speakers grow even further.

Qifeng, our Toastmaster of the day, closed the meeting with a powerful reminder that inspiring speakers aren't just famous figures—we can find inspiration in the people we meet every day, including our fellow Toastmasters.

We ended the meeting on a high note, filled with excitement and energy to bring even more inspiration into our speeches and into our club! 🎉

See you all next time! 💪

Celebrating Matrimony! 🎤

What a special meeting we had today! Our Toastmaster of the Day, Sonya, just got married last week, and fittingly, the theme of the day was Matrimony. 💍

We had two fantastic prepared speakers:

Qifeng entertained us with his humorous speech titled "Parking Party". He used body language to bring to life his recent parking adventure in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a story many of us can relate to when navigating crowded tourist spots!

David Lim followed with "Goal Mechanism", where he wove together personal stories with a touch of humor to connect with the audience, all while mastering the art of storytelling.

Our Table Topics session was unique and heartwarming. Led by Jayne, the question was simple: What advice would you give for a happy marriage? Everyone contributed, making it a memorable way to celebrate Sonya's marriage.

Our best table topic speaker was a tie between Chris and Eleanor, the best evaluator is David Singer, and the best speaker is Qifeng. Congratulations!

To top it all off, we ended the meeting with a delicious two-tier cake made by the talented Jayne. 🎂 We’re so happy for Sonya and wish her all the best in her new journey! 💖

Change was in the air this morning as the Silver Tongued Cats met to discuss the theme of the day chosen by our Toastmaster Eleanor, "Transitions". We had two wonderful speakers - Chris shared his communication style while entertaining us with the story of his journey to find his calling in life - while our resident cinematographer, Indiana Lancer Dundee Jones, regaled us with a story (and amazing photographs) about his recent trip to the "Murder Capital of the World" (which we are all very grateful he survived!).Table Topics, led by Qifeng, gave many of us the chance to exercise our impromptu speaking muscles, while exploring the theme of the day. Our excellent evaluators, Jayne and Sonya were on hand to deliver both appreciation and advice to our speakers to help them grow in their oratorical odysseys. Hats off to many of our members today, who excelled at multitasking to ensure our meeting happened smoothly. Looking to make a positive transition in your life? Come and join one of our meetings soon!

We had a fantastic Toastmasters meeting on August 10, 2024, with a strong turnout for our hybrid session at 8:30 am. Most of our members joined us in person, bringing great energy to the room. The theme of the day was "Competition," and it certainly sparked some insightful discussions.

David Lim served as our toastmaster, guiding us through a packed agenda. The highlight of the meeting was a panel discussion moderated by David Singer on the topic "Backing up is hard to do, is it?". It’s something we all need to think about—how to keep our data safe without breaking the bank. The panelists shared their experiences and challenges with backing up data, touching on issues like hard drive failures and the costs of cloud storage. David did a great job summarizing practical ways to ensure your data is secure.

Our Table Topics session, led by the ever-engaging Helen, dove into whether competition is really a good thing. The questions prompted some lively debates and thoughtful responses from our members.

All in all, it was a successful meeting, with meaningful discussions and plenty of learning. And as a fun bonus, a few members had the chance to try out the latest VR technologies after the meeting—it was an exciting way to wrap up our morning!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting!

Great news! The Silver Tongued Cats' hybrid meetings are going strong and have officially become regular. Yesterday's meeting was a big success, and we are happy to announce the winners: Lance received the Best Speaker award, Bud was recognized as the Best Evaluator, and Angel shined as the Best Table Topics Master. Congratulations to all the winners! Keep up the excellent work, everyone!

Below is the report on 6/22 TM meeting. Prepared by General evaluator - Lixia.
It’s STC Los Gatos hybrid meeting again. Some cats showed up in the office, some cats logged in via zoom.
With school summer break officially starts, Toastmaster Gordon picks the theme “Remembering School Days.”
Word master Olga picked the word of today – Discipline. We all know we are required to be disciplined in some way during school days.
We are lucky to have two speeches today. The first one title is “A-e-aaa-ha! A-e-aaa-ha!” by Lance.
Beginning with “Immigrant Song”, Lance immediately brings us to Iceland, where he recently visited.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
Lance delivers his speech through his picture and video, introducing the people, geography and nature in Iceland – cold, clean and slow pace, with ChapStick as a stop sign. He also shares his diving and what he found with a happy face. The second speech is “A Whisper of Inspiration: Dance!” by Heather.
Heather is well prepared for the speech. She sent introductory information regarding the topic. She starts from the introduction of Ecstatic and five forms of the dance, then her journey to the Ecstatic dance, and how she feels through Ecstatic – liberate and connect to herself. It’s an inspirational speech. She always conveys a right pace and smile while delivering her speech.

Our first evaluator Qifeng gave an insightful evaluation and some feedback to the first speech by Lance.
Our second evaluator Bud also provided constructive feedback to the second speech by Heather.

The fun table topics were led by Helen. Helen prepared the right questions to bring back all the memories during school days. They are about your favorite teachers, your best friends and your favorite subjects, also how that impacts your school days and beyond.
The meeting ran smoothly and on time. We like the theme and all the discussions. Look forward to the
next meeting.

Report of 05/13 TM meetings. (Written by Qifeng Shan. grammar checked by ChatGPT)
On 05/13, we had an on-site TM (Toastmasters) meeting with most attendees present in person. The meeting's theme was "Surviving in the Era of AI." Qifeng served as the TMOD (Toastmaster of the Day). The word of the day, "Innovate," was introduced by Pooja.

As usual, in-person meetings create a positive atmosphere as we can see each other's faces, which is vital for genuine communication.

Our first speaker was David Lim, who delivered a speech titled "Bad Hare Days." He began with a well-known fable and used personal stories to reflect on the meaning of life. David's speech effectively utilized vocal variety and gestures, connecting with the audience through storytelling.

Next, we had Lance as our second speaker with the speech titled "Bottom Up." This speech focused on important considerations for parents and grandparents, particularly regarding water safety during the summer season. Lance shared a personal near-drowning experience, emphasizing preventive measures to avoid tragedies.

The table topics segment was the most exciting part of the meeting. Lixia presented several insightful questions related to AI, including its pros, cons, and future implications. Angela highlighted the need for a "Check and Balance" mechanism for AI to prevent it from getting out of control. This concept resonated with me, especially considering the significant impact of large language models like ChatGPT on society. Loy mentioned the rising issue of plagiarism in education due to the misuse of ChatGPT. While acknowledging the negative aspect, some educators suggest teaching students how to effectively use such tools while ensuring proper citation of external sources in their assignments and projects.

Sonya and Gordon served as evaluators, providing valuable feedback for the two speakers.

It was wonderful to see everyone again, and we look forward to more frequent gatherings in the future.

Report on 05/04 Toastmaster Meeting: Eleanor was our Toastmaster, and her theme for today was “summertime”. Eleven members were in attendance.
Lixia provided her word of the day, “bright” and we all did pretty good using the word.

Jayne presented her first Icebreaker speech. Icebreakers are speeches that are shorter in duration, 4 to 6 minutes and they act as in introduction of the member to the club. Qifeng was her Evaluator.

Our second speaker was Bud. His speech this morning described a running milestone during a race in Big Sur, California. Angel was his Evaluator. Loy had a good selection of Table Topics about summertime and nearly everyone, including Loy got into the action. Eleanor, Lance, Sonya, Jayne, Bud, Angel, and Qifeng were the additional responders.

The Zoom “virtual” blue ribbon winners today were:
Sonya in Table Topics
Angel as the Evaluator
Bud for Speaker
Submitted by member Lance, thank you for checking our page.
