We are rocking and rolling this Christmas Eve. We are located at the Belen walmart till 3pm. We have 7 adopted out already and more on the way. We still have lots of donations for all dogs. And we still have some books for the kids.

We are up and adopting at belen walmart till 3pm today Christmas Eve. We have close to 20 dogs needing new homes and more on the way. We have gift bags for dogs and some for kids while they last.

As the Director of Valencia County Animal Services I feel there is a need to address the public regarding an accident involving a vehicle from our department.

On Tuesday November 26th 2024, a vehicle from our department driven by an employee from our department was involved in accident with two horses and a juvenile on Sandhill Rd. The driver immediately rendered aid to the juvenile who was later transported to the hospital with minor injuries and dispatched help for the horses but unfortunately the horses had passed immediately upon impact.

The initial response was by the Sheriff’s Department, once it was determined to be a County vehicle and driver the investigation was stopped and turned over to the New Mexico State Police.

After an extensive investigation by the New Mexico State Police including drug/alcohol testing, vehicle data, and phone data of the county employee it was determined that the driver of the county vehicle was not at fault and was not speeding. VCAS received the completed investigation report on 12/16/2024.

This was an unfortunate unavoidable accident. I ask the public to keep the juvenile and the driver in your thoughts and prayers as this has been a tragic event for both of them.

We would like to thank Los Lunas Basketball team for all the support. We would like for you to meet the 2 dogs selected for the dogs of the game. Both animals were selected and sponsored by Los Lunas Boys Basketball team. If your interested please reach out to the shelter for adoption.

Join us next Saturday December 14th. Help us clear out the shelter before Christmas. All adopted animals will come with a small Christmas gift bag as well.

HELP NEEDED!!! We are looking for rescues that can pull momma dogs and litters. We have close to 10 litters tha need out of the shelter ASAP we do not have space for them all. Also we need them out ASAP to prevent the puppies from getting sick in a high risk facility.

Sponsored adoptions all day today and tomorrow 12/3/2024 and 12/4/2024. Thanks to South West Animal Team ( SWAT ) and SMOKAL . Help save a shelter dog. All animals are first some first serve. Only a few animals pictured we have over 100 needing new homes. We have all sizes and ages. All animals will be fixed and fully vaccinated.

We still have 12 tire dog beds left. Free to the public each bed comes with a decorated tire and a dog beds to go inside the tire. Great for out side animals perfect for a porch or garage. Help support the creativity of Gabrielle Montoya. She is an aspiring eagle scout with troop 831 and made these beds as a community service project.

We would like to thank Gabrielle Montoya. She is an aspiring eagle scout with troop 831. She has donated 18 out door dog beds for the public. She had to complete a project for the community and decided to try helping animals in need. The shelter will be handing out all 18 dog beds to any one who asks for one they are first come first serve. They come with your choice of decorated tire and bed. You place the bed inside the tire to prevent it from blowing away or being moved by your animals. These are great for an outside dog that you can place the bed on a porch or under a canopy. Please support the creativity of our youth who are trying to make a difference one animal at a time.

We are operating on a 2hour delay today due to the snow. We will not open until 1030.

The shelter has free straw to help keep your out door pets warm as the temperature drops. Thank you NMDog for supplying the straw for everyone. It is greatly appreciated.
