It is with great excitement that we introduce our new barn manager/lead instructor/trainer (starting in Sept.) at Wind Hill Farm, Sybil Higman Desilets!

Sybil has had a life long love of horses, owning her first horse at 16 years old and working with horses ever since. She will draw upon experiences of keeping her horses at home as well as boarding in various facilities. Over the years she has done it all from working in local barns (cleaning, repairs, managing, training & teaching), riding & learning from a variety of clinicians (Ray Hunt, Bryan Newbert, Tom Curtain, Joe Wolter, Buck Branaman, Josh Lyons, and Lynn Palm), and showing in diverse disciplines (Hunt Seat, Ranch, Ranch Reining, Jumping, Western Dressage).

Sybil’s philosophy is that we are always learning and that the horse can be our biggest teacher. She will focus on partnerships in which the rider will learn to feel and communicate with their horse thru patience, kindness, respect and consistency.

At Wind Hill Farm we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming community with quality care and horsemanship. Sybil’s love of horses, teaching diverse disciplines, and creating new connections will build upon the community that already exists here at the farm!

She will be a great leader to our ever growing team and farm family. Stay tuned for more introductions in the weeks ahead!

We lost one of the greats today.

‘Piper’ was one of Wind Hills early residents. I can remember getting the call when his owner, Jean, asked me if he could board with us. I emphatically said,‘YES!’ And within 24 hours was on my way to pick him up.

Bred by Frannie Buridge of Piper Ridge Farm and started by Joe Walter, Piper was set up for success. He was then purchased by a boarder at a facility that I worked at, more then twenty years ago.

I knew him as a youngster and as he got older I had the privilege of riding him in clinics. He worked as a hippo therapy horse and was then purchased by Jean, where he showed in pleasure and I had the opportunity to coach him and Jean.

To have him back under my wing as a senior gave me great joy. I was honored that Jean trusted me to take care of her boy and loved him as one of my own.

Our deepest condolences to Jean and her family. Thank you for sharing Piper with us.

He touched many hearts and left a huge impact on so many.

Run free, big guy. I’m certain there was a big herd of old pasture mates ready to greet you 💜

Confidence is knowing you are prepared.
-Ray Hunt

As part of our training program we invite owners to come to ride throughout the course of their horses stay at Wind Hill. Seeing the horse and rider some together with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

“Winds of Change”
Life at Wind Hill Farm is always evolving, new horses, new programs and new enhancements to the facility & property. What remains constant is our culture of inclusion and creating a peaceful retreat for horses & humans alike. A welcoming community for growth, learning and expansion.

Janine has been helping create that vision and culture, leading the charge day in and day out since we opened in April, 2021. We could not be more grateful for the love, attention to detail and equine expertise that she has poured into our horses, facility and farm family! It is with mixed emotions that we announce her last day will be August 31st. We will miss her terribly but we are so excited for her next adventure out West. We are so proud of her courage to follow her heart, step out of her comfort zone and reach for her goals! After all, that’s how Wind Hill Farm was created just a few short years ago!

In the meantime, please help us make this summer one she won’t forget. Make sure you take every chance to soak up as much learning from Janine as possible, shower her with love and appreciation so we can send her off with a full heart!

Change can be hard but it also holds opportunity for growth and we optimistically look forward to growth opportunities both for Janine and Wind Hill Farm.

It’s not all about riding.

Lesson horses give so much of themselves to students that are eager to learn. They forgive our fumbles with halters, help when we get out of balance and patiently stand for grooming.

There are days when they may not be physically or emotionally available to go to work.

Tonight, in the rain and the cold, this young student came to care for the horse that has taken care of her. She spent more than her usual lesson time to groom, administer medications, and create a comfortable environment for her favorite lesson horse.

I am so thankful for students willing to give back to their horses, parents who understand and value lessons that aren’t in the saddle, and horses that go the extra mile.

It’s not all about riding.

Rain in the forecast, so we start day one with swimming lessons.

Welcome Stihl, a 3 year old with a nice start. Here to put in some miles and continue his education.
