Sleep on it.

Have you ever worked with your horse on somthing new, stuggled a lot, ended on a little win, and then come back the next day and have your horse perform the new skill with ease?

Did your horse practice in their sleep??? Of course not, but science has proven that people- and horses- build stronger neural connections (learn) best when given a break in the learning process.

((This means they learn both positive and negative things in this manner))

In action this looks like:
Learn new thing- take a short break- practice new thing again- take another short break- try that thing one more time-sleep on it. Come back the next day and often times that new skill comes much easier then your last try the day before. (Unless it’s math for me then forget about it 🤣)

Saying goodbye is never easy, but knowing Scotty had the best last day does make it feel a little bit better.

An amazing thing happened- somthing I have never witnessed before. About a half hour before we said goodbye every horse on the farm stopped what they were doing, left their food stations- stopped grazing and stood at relaxed attention focused on us. Scotty and his humans had been grazing down by the pond all day so it wasnt because the horses were interested in something new happening. When the vet arrived, the herds all quietly dispersed except for his pasture mates who made the far trek from the grass to the lower corner of back lot - which is a long trek from the top of the pasture- to be as close to him as possible. They stood quietly and then made their way back up after he was gone.

Horses never cease to amaze me. The herd honored Scotty, the patriarch, that day in such a clear way. Scotty’s steady presence will be greatly missed on the farm.

A HUGE thank you to Devin at Asgard Excavation for his excellent customer service throughout the process of researching, purchasing, and installing our new Drinking Post Automatic Waterers. His support has been nothing but top notch, we had a small trouble shooting issue with one of the waterers after installation which he helped us quickly and correctly address to get everything working smoothly. Devins ongoing support has taken the intimidation of such an important purchase.

Our horses thank you for the fresh, clean water!

Yup the girls won on the race to figuring out the In the boys defense we had a small glitch in the filtration, but it’s sorted now and they are next up for figuring it out.
