Animal Connections

Animal Connections Animal Connections is an all-volunteer rescue group who matches homeless animals with people through our Foster-to-adoption program. HARRIS TEETER (Barracks Rd.
(40)

Our foster families are located in Charlottesville and surroundings. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that of the 6-8 million cats and dogs entering U.S. shelters each year, only 30% are reclaimed by their owners. Of the remaining, approximately four million are euthanized. This equates to about one animal being euthanized every 8 seconds. Animal Connections is a non-profit organi

zation which rescues dogs, often from high-kill shelters, and fosters them until they find their forever homes. Recently we have taken on harder cases, including several sick and injured dogs. Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Donations and fosters are both currently needed. With your help we can continue our mission to minimize the number of dogs euthanized each year in shelters and find them their forever homes. The dogs shown here are in foster care. They often can be seen on weekends in Charlottesville at PET SUPPLIES PLUS (on Rt. 29 S and Greenbrier Dr.) Shopping Ctr.) or SPECIAL EVENTS Locations

STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Mickey is a 3-4 year old Chi-weenie that weighs around 10lbs and is up-to-date on all shots. Mickey is very active. He will need an active family and a fenced in yard. Mikey is somewhat selective about his furry friends, preferring smaller female dogs (cats unknown). He would also be fine as the only dog in the house. He loves to cuddle up with his person and sleep with them at night. He is crate trained and is doing well with his house breaking. Adoption fee is $250.00 which includes all vaccines, heartworm test, spay/neuter and microchip. Please submit adoption applications to [email protected]. Thank you for your interest and your patience.

ADOPTED
Bean, aka Bella, has been vetted and is ready for adoption. She is a 9lb deer chihuahua. She came to our organization as a very scared and underweight stray. Now, with a little patience and love (and lots of food) in her foster home, she is starting to blossom into a sweet and loving dog. She remains very timid and it does still take a little while for her to feel comfortable around new people, but afterward you'll have a grateful companion. She darts around like a jackrabbit with her long legs between her cozy spot in her crate or chair onto your lap for some loving. She loves belly rubs and giving kisses. She has even started playing with her foster sister from time to time. She is crate-trained and is currently finalizing her house-training. She has also started learning to use the doggy door at her foster home. She does not have accidents if you take her out when she gets antsy, if you carry her outside right away when she gets up in the morning, and/or when you get home (she can have a little accident if she gets too excited). She is very timid on a leash, so will need some work to go on regular walks. She likes being held (especially close to your face for kisses) and has a lot of love to give. Bella would do best in a quiet home with a no small children and a fenced backyard. If you are interested in adopting Bean/Bella, please complete the adoption application on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org.

UPDATE: ADOPTED
Thank you all so much for the e-mails and applications. We are so grateful for all the support. We are happy to report that we have found a foster for Bean. We will update everyone on her progress and adoption status once her medical intake is completed. Thank you for helping us save this little girl!

We recently got a call from a local shelter asking if we could help with a terrified little chihuahua. This poor little girl, named Bean, was found as a stray. She is underweight and extremely scared in her kennel. When first approached, she did growl and nip at our volunteer. However, after spending some time gaining her trust, the volunteer was able to pick her up and pet her. She settled down quickly once she was being held and the shelter staff was able to hold her for the first time since her arrival. We would love to help this girl, but all our permanent foster homes are currently full. We are looking for someone who may be able to foster (or foster to adopt) this sweetheart. Please note that she will need a quiet foster home with no small children. She has not been dog and cat tested, but she is so timid and small that we do not expect her to have issues with other pets. She was very timid on a leash, so a fenced backyard will also be necessary. We know we are asking a lot, but we are hoping to find someone that is willing to open their home to this girl, even for a short time. All supplies (food, crate, medical expenses, etc.) will be provided to the foster parent. Please, if you can assist us in saving this girl, complete the foster/adoption application on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org.

FOSTER/FOREVER FAMILY NEEDED: Mickey is a Chi-weenie that was born in 03/19. He is approximately 7lbs and up-to-date on all shots. PENDING ADOPTION: Shockley, aka Prancer, is a 3-4 year Pomeranian mix that weighs approximately 20lbs. Before you fall in love with his adorable face, there are some things that you should know about him. Prancer is a sweet boy but is shy around new people. If he is startled by someone that he is not familiar with, he will nip them and run away. Although this is not a normal occurrence for this super sweet boy, it is a possibility. As such, we will not adopt to a family that has children or one which children visit often. As long as you take your time with Prancer, he is the sweetest boy you will ever meet. He is a very mellow dog but will prance around when excited (which is how he got his name). His favorite thing is to cuddle up on his foster mom’s lap and get love. He is doing excellent with his housebreaking, rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. If you are looking for a fluffy companion to make it through the cold winter nights, this is the boy for you. If you are interested in adopting Prancer, please complete the adoption application on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org and e-mail it to Jen Miller at [email protected].

This cute little man’s name is Leo. Leo is a terrier mix that is around 1-2 years old and weighs 11lbs. Leo is a friendly, easy going little man. His favorite past time is to snuggle up on his foster’s lap. He gets along well with everyone he meets (all people, cats and other dogs). He is doing excellent with his house training and walks well on a leash. Leo will need to be neutered prior to adoption but is up to date on his shots and excited to meet people interested in adopting him. If you are interested in adopting Leo, please complete the adoption application on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org and e-mail it to Jen Miller at [email protected].

ADOPTED JUST ARRIVED!!!! Macie is a Yorkshire Terrier mix around 4 years old. These two just arrived yesterday, so little is known about them yet. Although they arrived on the same day, they are not a bonded pair and can be adopted independently. Both were infested with fleas and are missing some hair due to flea allergies. However, they have gotten all their medical completed (shots, microchip, etc.) and were groomed. Bentley is also overweight and has been put on a diet. If you are interested in adopting either Bentley or Macie, please complete the adoption application on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org and e-mail it to Jen Miller at [email protected].

ADOPTED
Animal Connections would like to welcome our newest dog, Ginger. Ginger is a 4 to 6-month-old puppy that weighs approximately 15 lbs. Ginger is a happy, energetic, friendly puppy. She is currently in a temporary foster home but would do better in a home with another dog, multiple dogs, or children to play with. Although the shelter listed Ginger as a long-haired dachshund mix, we are not quite sure that is correct. She is smaller with a long back and short, stubbly legs. However, her current foster mom thinks she may have some Australian Shepherd in her. No matter her breed, she is an adorable, loving puppy that is looking for a foster or forever home. Adoption applications may be found on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org. If you are interested fostering or adopting Ginger, please complete the adoption application and e-mail it to Jen Miller at [email protected].

ADOPTED
We are happy to announce our newest arrival, Jock. Jock is a Yorkshire Terrier mix that is around 2 years old and weighs approximately 10lbs. Jock is a very friendly, happy little boy that loves everyone he meets. He does well with other dogs. Although he has not been cat tested yet, we do not expect any issues. Jock will need some help with his basic training and housebreaking but does walk well on a leash. Jock will need to be neutered prior to going to his forever home but is currently up to date on all shots. Adoption applications may be found on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Jock, please send completed applications to Karin Straley at: [email protected].

ADOPTED
Thumbelina is a Yorkshire Terrier mix that is around 6-7 years old and weighs around 15lbs. This little cutie came to Animal Connections after being relinquished by her owner through no fault of her own. Although she needed grooming when she first arrived, her sweet and loving personality shone through. Now that she has had a good bath and haircut, she is ready to go to her foster or forever home. Thumbelina is very friendly and happy to meet everyone. She loves to cuddle and play. She also walks well on a leash and doing great with her housebreaking. However, Thumbelina does not get along well with other dogs. As such, she needs a home where she is the only dog. She has not been tested with cats, but would probably prefer to be the only furry family member. Adoption applications may be found on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Thumbelina, please send completed applications to Karin Straley at: [email protected].

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Meet our newest arrival, BeeBee. If you couldn’t tell from the pictures, BeeBee is a Pug. She is estimated to be approximately 10 years old and weighs around 15lbs. This senior girl has all the s***k of a puppy mixed with all the experience of an older dog. BeeBee was brought to a local shelter after being found as a stray. She is doing well with her house training, walks great on a leash, rides well in the car, and gets along with everyone she meets. She sleeps at the foot of the bed through the night and will also willingly go in her crate for some down time. Although BeeBee is considered a senior, she has no problems with stairs or jumping onto the furniture to find a lap to cuddle. Even though she is found most of the time lounging on the sofa, she will never pass up an adventure. She loves going on walks and car rides. While she doesn’t seem to mind cats, BeeBee greatly enjoy intimidating and bullying other dogs (big and small). As such, she would do best as an only dog or in a home with an experienced dog owner. BeeBee is up to date on her shots and will be getting her remaining medical completed prior to adoption (spay, dental, and check-up), which is included in her adoption fee. If you are interested in fostering or adopting BeeBee, please contact Jennifer Miller at [email protected]. Adoption applications may be found on the Animal Connections website at: www.animalconnections.org.

UPDATE: We would like convey our appreciation for the overwhelming response/inquiries regarding Bingo and Aria. These two adorable babies were so sweet that their foster family fell in love with them and decided to adopt them. We thank everyone for their patience and wish you all the best in finding your newest furry family member.

Bingo and Aria just arrived to Animal Connections yesterday. Bingo is a 5-year-old male malti-poo and Aria is a 6-year-old female malti-poo. Both weighs approximately 8 lbs. They were surrendered to a shelter after their elderly owner passed away. These two are a bonded pair and will ONLY be adopted together! Since they are new arrivals, we do not know much about them yet. They have not been evaluated with cats or children (but we do not expect any issues), and it is unknown if they are housebroken. However, we do know that they are very sweet and seem to love everyone they meet. They get along with other dogs and also seem to be pretty mellow, preferring to relax on a lap. They are spay/neutered and up-to-date on shots. We will provide updates as we learn more about these two. If you don't need any more information, and are interested in adopting this cuddly pair, please contact Karin Straley at: [email protected].

If you have ever been interested in fostering now is the time. We are always in need of fosters and we would love to have you.

Fosters are one of the most important parts of rescuing. You help in the rehabilitation and training, you show them what love and affection is and how it feels to be apart of a family. You are helping them prepare for their forever home.
