Want to join our fundraising team or learn more about it? It's the fun group of folks that you see at the Mineral Market, our Empty Bowls Event, the 5k, or any other events that help us out change in the piggy bank. We are having a meeting on February 22 at 11:00 at Coyote Hole - Lake Anna if you'd like to join us to see what is coming up for 2025 and how you can help!

Can you believe they're six weeks old already? We hopefully will have DNA test results soon to see their mysterious origins. We are fairly certain there's some Plott hound in there but the rest of the mix is anyone's guess. Whatever it is, the eyebrow game they've inherited is adorable. Pre-apply for a puppy at www.louisahumanesociety.com.

Thank you Fredericksburg Club Pilates and Tidewater Trail Animal Hospital for teaming up for Puppies & Pilates. We think everyone had fun and we got some zonked out puppies in return. (Trust me, exhausted puppies are wonderful when there are eight of them.) Our puppies will be ready to go near the end of the month, but you can pre-apply and pick your baby out with an application at www.louisahumanesociety.com.

How did we do in 2024? See for yourself! It's honestly mind-boggling to think about the numbers of litters (and thousands of unwanted animals) we helped our community prevent by spaying or neutering 514 animals! That doesn't take into account all of the animals that we spayed or neutered while they were in our program. Also, we were able to help Animal Care Assistance Program - ACAP fund treatment for 16 cats and dogs in our county. That meant owners got help with unexpected vet bills and were able to keep their pets and not make tough choices. And last but not least, we are proud of those numbers for adoptions and animals we took in. We are a small, all-volunteer group, but the difference made in the community is nothing to sneeze at.
Folks, if you think that the dollar bill you dropped in our donation box didn't make a difference, we have to tell you that you're wrong in the best way possible. Thank you for all of the support in 2024. We have those numbers because we have a great community around us. If you want to see all the ways you can help or more about what we do, go to www.louisahumanesociety.com.

It's not the best picture, but in some ways it IS the best picture. Below is Delta in his new foster home and we need to thank everyone for the shares on our posts that got him here. We are learning more about him, but we can say that he's cat friendly and a sweet boy. We will post more updates as we learn more about our charcoal colored pooch.

Here's a great snapshot of how we work with folks who find kittens in our fostering process. Jane and Precious are the last ones from this litter found in an attic. Let's get these sweet girls to their happy ending. Apply at www.louisahumanesociety.com. Read their story below from their foster mom.

"Just a short back story. These 2 darling teenagers are the last of 6 kittens and mom cat that arrived here in May of 2024. I noticed a very hungry mama cat in the property. I contacted Meg for guidance while sending photos. She told me I had to find the kittens. And so I sat in the driveway watching Katniss for a very long time. Finally, she made her way to the back of the carport of my playhouse. I followed just in time to see her disappear up the rafters into the attic! I called my husband and he removed the access door and discovered 6 beautiful kittens. I handed him a box. He carefully added the babies to the box and handed it back to me. Upon putting it down the mama hopped in, purring and cleaning her darlings. I named her Katniss for her bravery. I already had 5 cats so l knew I couldn't add 7 more. Meg asked if I could foster and the journey began. Katniss was a great mom and took very good care of her babies. Lizzie was the first to get a home then Rambo, Turtle, and Annie. Katniss was recently adopted by my niece. For all of her bravery she has been rewarded with a loving home of her own and all the amenities! Now it's down to Jane and Precious to find a home of their own. They might take a day or more to acclimate to new surroundings but you will have sweet affectionate pets in no time."

Add sunbathing to Dottie's list of things she loves. Technically she was supervising her foster mom with yard cleanup, but she felt no need to micromanage her. She saw a deer and after much consideration gave it one rare bark and then went back to sun worshipping. Dottie is playful, affectionate, oddly quiet for a hound, and easy to live with. Apply for her at www.louisahumanesociety.com.

No adoption fees?! Yep, Lucky,Bunny, and Lizzie have their adoption fees sponsored. Lucky is our amazing, sweet deaf guy, Bunny can hear just fine despite having one ear, and Lizzie just wants a blanket and a couch. These pooches have been with us for too long despite being terrific animals, so 2025 needs to be their year. See their profiles and apply at www.louisahumanesociety.com.

Free cats?! No, not free but these four have their adoption fees sponsored! Carol, Frederick, Regina, and Stanley have been with us a while and we hate seeing them overlooked. These four came from various bad situations and are now healthy, happy, and ready to leave it all behind them. Consider adopting a loving, calm, adult cat that will fill your heart and lap. See their stories and apply at www.louisahumanesociety.com.

Dottie is one great dog, just ask her foster mom. We get glowing reports all the time. She loves human interaction, so while she is ok on her own she thrives when she's got someone around. She enjoys training, loves a good chew treat, and lives for toys which she hoards like a dragon with gold. She would do well with a space that is safe to do some laps or with another dog to play with. Dottie provides a lot of smiles and laughs when she's feeling peppy. She's sweet, affectionate, and loves life. Apply at www.louisahumanesociety.com.
