First time caller, long time listener! Add morning radio show host as a future possibility for Ryker. Our adoptable boy had a big day as he (and part of our board) were interviewed at Mix981Richmond by Rebecca Wilde for a segment in October. We will keep you posted when it will air, and we are truly grateful to her and the radio station for highlighting what we do and letting Ryker share his playlist.

We just received this very sad message from Stella's foster dad. She was such a good girl.

🌟 In Loving Memory of Stella 🌟

We are heartbroken to share the passing of Stella, one of our beloved former fosters. Adopted as a senior by her wonderful parents, she was given the love and care she deserved in her golden years. Stella had a spark that was unmistakable, with just the right amount of sass that made her unforgettable.

Her family gave her the best life possible, filled with joy, comfort, and so much love. Stella's spirit will always be a part of the Louisa Humane Society family, and we will forever cherish the memories we shared with her.

Rest in peace, sweet Stella. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. 🌈🐾❤️

We find ourselves in a bind. We have had some great opportunities offered to us to set up a table and/or an adoption stand at local events. Unfortunately, we've had to turn a couple of them down and the sad reason is that we just don't have the people to do it. Our typical core of volunteers is getting worn thin and we need the help. We don't have a brick and mortar, so these events are one of the main ways we can introduce our adoptable pets to the public and also take in donations for their care. Volunteering for even one event is a huge help. We hate to see the people we have get burned out, and it's happening. Please consider a "donation" of a Saturday morning or afternoon. Many of our events are at wineries and local breweries, and they're fun. Sip on something while you talk to the public and make connections and let adoptable dogs get loved on. This is a tough one to post. When Keeper came to us he definitely needed some TLC. We knew he was over ten years old and in need of care. We also knew that Keeper wouldn't find a family easily. We were wrong on that last one- wonderfully, happily wrong. There was a family that saw the frosty muzzle and kind eyes and didn't care about his age or any potential ailments. They were sure he was their boy and we all choked up a little to see this senior find his soft place to land. Because we knew Keeper would have some medical stuff come up and due to his age, we adopted him out as a sanctuary case and provided for him. He had some great months with his people before he took his leave today. They made sure he enjoyed a juicy cheeseburger and got as much love as possible before they eased his pain. As much as our hearts hurt for Keeper, they also hurt for his family. It takes a special kind of human to bring these older pets home; people that are about as close to being angels as it gets in our arena. Thank you for loving this very good boy and showing him the kindness he deserved. Rest in peace, Keeper.

In today's science news, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts reported a strange pulsing sound on the Boeing Starliner. The sounds were actually first noted by Carter and his sisters who then cued the astronauts to do some checks. Turns out it was some pesky speaker feedback.

Three of our border collie mix babies are still available. This litter is so playful and sweet and they'll be quick studies on whatever you want to teach them. Looking at this photo you would never know that this dog had a really rough start to life. Taco came in hairless because of mange, malnourished, and in general bad shape. We are happy to announce that our beautiful boy has officially been adopted by his foster mom who saw him through the healing process. Someone came in to get some work on their car done and the mechanics found more than they bargained for under the hood. Luckily they were able to free the little hitchhiker safely and the car's owner took it to the shelter. Even if you don't own any, if there are outdoor cats in your area, they will often take shelter in the undercarriage of vehicles for warmth or protection. We get quite a few kittens with broken legs and other injuries from taking rides with unknowing drivers.
